Fred Schneider is such a creative soul I'm from Atlanta and I just love him he used to come into my friends record store downtown and buy vinyl I'm so happy that we had to B-52s in my era I still love them all
Betty Kelly is true to form with honest, poignant comments. Always gracious and honorable onstage. Her comments "propelling" Martha over Marvelletes and Supremes shows what a class act she is and always will be, no bullshit, deep from her heart, (6:39) a gorgeous lady inside and out. Can not admire any over another, they are all phenomenal, Pee Wee Reeves (Lois) too, absolutely deserving to be up there.
Guys, please, when "The B'52" are going to be inducted into your heavenlly sanctuary of R&R HOF? My gosh, it's quite deserved, don't You agree? Bless to every1 from Venezuela
it makes me happy that Fred fully adapted/adopted Georgia into his speech patterns & accent. he may be a Damn Yankee, but he truly represents us because he’s one of us…a lover & not a hater.
I am surprised that Betty was especially gracious since her and Martha did not part in good terms. Actually, I think only Martha, Rosalind and Betty should have gotten the award since it was Martha, Betty and Rosalind who sang on most of the hits for the group and are the most well known line up of the group.
The award was supposed to go solely to Martha but she insisted that the other Vandellas be indicted as well! My only surprise is that the late Sandra Tilley, who was both a Vandella and Velvelette (like Betty Kelly) and sang with Lois during their last years signed with Motown was not mentioned.
@@ujimajame4601 My theory is that Sandra Tilley was not mentioned because by the time Miss Tilley joined, the Vandellas were no longer having national top 40 pop hits on Billboard. Lois came in at the tail end of Vandellas fame singing on their final national Billboard top 40 hit "Honey Chile." Rosalind Ashford and Betty Kelly are the most well known line up as they sang on most of the Vandellas top 40 recordings between 1964 and 1967 and it is that line up that most people know due to their frequent TV appearances. In fact, it is Rosalind Ashford and Betty Kelly who can be seen singing with Martha on the show Hullabaloo which was being shown on the overhead monitor at the Hall of Fame awards ceremony. Annette who did not stay long sang on the Vandellas top 40 recordings between 1963 and 1964 until Betty Kelly replaced her just prior to the group recording Dancing in the Street. I think Rosalind Ashford definitely deserved recognition because she sang with the Vandellas and Martha from the very beginning in 1962 way up until 1969 when she was canned by Martha. Rosalind sang with Martha even before they came to Motown making a total of 12 years that she sang with Martha. Rosalind gave the group what I call that "Vandella" sound.
now, Im going to say this just for me and no one else. Whenever I think of Motown Records, the 1st groups that come to mind for me, are not the Supremes and the Four Tops...its Martha V & the Vandellas and Smokey Robinson & the Miracles. The ONLY reason Martha and her girls, never got the acclaim that Diana and her girls, got..is simply due to all the attention and marketing that went into making the Supremes, superstars. And thats perfectly fine. But when it comes down to raw, fun passion and some REAL singin'?...I think of the Vandellas. They were so much fun to listen to in their prime.
What a generous and sincerely kind tribute to this awesome group. Very classy and considerate.
This was so beatiful and so deserved. I love Martha and the vandellas too. Thank you so much

The B 52's are for me, what the Vandellas are for Fred :

@@ujimajame4601 If ONLY other lead singers had the sense to do that!
