Splendid video. Love seeing thing brought back to life. You can always rest the hammer over the vice rather than clamp it down and hammer out the old handle. clearly the vice didn't damage the hammer but if you're worried about the surface.

I'm not nitpicking on this, but if you want to use this hammer, you need to round the end of the handle, and make the faces completely flat, and mirror polished.
Trust me, I'm done silversmithing, and a bit of tool maintenance.

Carson Gilder This hammer is a basic silversmithing planishing hammer. You can make a curved copper, silver or gold surface smoother with this thing.
