hoped you'd noticed Jonny (the guitarist on the right) playing the guitar while hitting notes on the keyboard with the guitar's neck, you can see it at about 5:44 in this video. It's pretty goofy but cool.
Thanks for pointing that out - wow!
I think this might have been one of the first songs I heard from "The Bends" and I couldn't believe my ears. It gave me the chills.
It's an extremely sad song. Thom described it as a very strange feeling playing it live, because everyone is singing and cheering, and it's about something very sad like "having to take your dog to the vet to be put down, and he/she is wagging their tail"
Powerful emotions, Very powerful music.
"Haunting" is the perfect word for this song - let it sink in a couple times then it will become "Powerfully Haunting" - the Fade Out chorus is just a little pristine piece of musical perfection that to me is undeniable. When you listen to the bends front to back this hits like a punch to the soul as the closer. They do pretty incredible closers and each so so different and every serious RH fan has their personal favorite and this one is mine. The music video is amazing, and an acoustic live version with just Thom and lead guitarist Johnny Greenwood is incredible and probably the best sounding version of this though they're like 20 years younger.
The lyrics.
"Rows of houses, all bearing down on me
I can feel their blue hands touching me
All these things into position
All these things we'll one day swallow whole
And fade out again and fade out
This machine will, will not communicate
These thoughts and the strain I am under
Be a world child, form a circle
Before we all go under
And fade out again and fade out again
Cracked eggs, dead birds
Scream as they fight for life
I can feel death, can see its beady eyes
All these things into position
All these things we'll one day swallow whole
Fade out again
Fade out again
Immerse your soul in love
Immerse your soul in love"
I respectfully disagree. While the quality of the singing is the same as the studio version, I think there’s a big difference between older Tom’s voice and his younger ‘choirboy’ voice (how Thom described his voice once). I love them both but the emotion of this song hits differently and it’s well worth listening to live versions from the 90s or early 2000s. Loving your Radioplay reactions guys!
The tempo is also a few BPM faster on the album, too.
It's a modern-day funeral durge. The wailing is deeply haunting.
Dayum his voice is spectacular.
Radiohead has been my favorite band since this album came out. I'm really appreciating your Radiohead reactions... I'd like to request a song. What's the best way to do that?

Radiohead are masters at haunting songs another song that's maybe a more haunting song is pyramid song y'all ought to check it out
You've done your best and I like it. You guys did a great reaction. We can't please everyone. Not every time. So keep up the good work guys 👍👍👍. Btw, can you guys react to Let Down from the album OK COMPUTER? The album version. Thank you guys.
The video for this song is also pretty damn cool! But always, the live version tests the band's skill, either way it's a good watch!
It's Radiohead Goat Song after Paranoid Android..but it's my favorite..I prefer this than paranoid android
for mr you need to listen to radio albums or full concert because you get under their spell
Very sad song....and channel 😂
Just kidding, of course. This one is depressing, but beautiful IMO. The Darkness certainly emphasized the poetic qualities of this track 😆. Great review, thanks!
❤️🤟🙏🤣
Why does this only have 8 views when everything in its right place has over 1k haha
The block was just released. I suspect it will increase
Love these guys live but they’re true the studio rats. I’ll take the album version over this
No near the same as studio version
