It is so great that your parents get so involved with you and your projects. My Mom passed 11 years ago, and I remember how much fun we used to have doing things together. I am blessed to still have my Father with me.

Absolutely loved this video, my pup & I decided to watch on my phone in the car while we waited for my hubby at blood bank, I cried a lot. You and your mum have fun working together like my mum & I used to bake & craft together. I lost my mum 2 weeks ago and I wish I had videos of our time together creating. You have great ideas April, so talented. I was just telling my husband that we should do so sort of gazibo/porch for out cats and dogs, somewhere they can get away from the heat. And to top it off, we just bought a kiddo pool for our lab puppy. Thanks for the ideas. Love your chicken coops too!!!

Delightful project. My lady and I were just talking about getting a kiddie pool for our Shepard mix. He's destroying the yard, making cool spots, but won't join us in the big pool... If he'll use the kiddie pool I'm getting him, tomorrow, I'll build him the whole shebang!

I just finished making my own yesterday. I did slightly modify the ramp to accommodate my handi-capable duck and rest of my flock (short stairs into platform vs ramp to platform).
It's perfect. If you add ducks to your chicken flock in the future this design is everything they need. Duck eggs are delicious!

Also, I use pool noodles with steel bar on the inside for support to haul 4x8 ply from Lowes to my house. I use lots of ratchet straps. I own a Mazda 3 hatchback.

I've got a couple of these pools for my ducks now - unmodified save for putting ramps both in and out which are incredibly important if you raise your own birds (some birds, especially babies, can't get out otherwise), and they do need to be cleaned regularly. I would highly recommend draining the pool some distance from the pool as it'll have a big impact on the environment by the pool otherwise. Even so, I've considered planting filter plants like cat tails and reeds to soak up the water and clean up the resulting muck a bit.
Second, you may also want a way to fill the pool without standing next to a running hose. There's a running joke in the people-with-livestock world of "did you leave the hose on?" and for a very good reason! I've solved this for my horse troughs by putting in a float valve on a supply line (mine's not frostproof yet so it's warm-season only) - this is a $15 part that clamps on the side of the container and simply keeps the water level at the top. I can't recommend these enough!
Lastly, you'll need to clean these smaller pools regularly as they'll get algae, dirt, and gross things building up in them otherwise. Ducks need standing water to clean filter membranes in their faces, and this means they'll foul up the water incredibly fast. If you have a big enough pond for them, most of this sinks to the bottom and you might not notice it for a while, but in smaller pools like these the water can get nasty in a single day. A long-handled scrub brush works for now.
Last thing is make sure you put your pools where you can see them from the house - enjoy your splashing ducks!

Please tell me what videos I need to look at regarding your history. I v"e watched a lot but I haven't seen ones that explain your process of choosing this work over another. I only know/or think you may have switched from something else. What role did parents play in your creativity and work ethic? Thanks for giving me something I so enjoy watching anytime but especially when I have insomnia. I am a 57 yr. old Grandmother & you are a true INSPIRATION!!!!!!!

That's a great project, April. If I still had a Labrador Retriever, it would be a must have. It's also great to see your mom involved in the shop. Maybe do a "Bring Mom and Dad into the shop" show once in a while to work on more projects together. Us old farts really enjoy getting out and having someone to play with. Keeps our coats shiny. Oh wait, that's the dogs. Hmmm... Maybe.

BTW My 2010 Ford Fusion with the back seat down is 11 feet from the trunk to the windshield. Works great for most everything 10 feet long, except plywood.
Cute pool! Variable speed drills were only found in professional shops when your mother and my generations grew up. Usually they were pneumatic.

My '87 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera was my haul-everything-mobile. Now, I have a '17 Dodge Caravan, though, I haven't used it for much more than getting groceries.

Great project, and no doubt a welcome one to the pooches in the Texas heat! Your dogs appear to be mature, but for people with puppies, and since the little scamps often love gnawing on the nearest corner of wood, cedar might be a less toxic water-resistant choice over pressure treated.

April; check out uni-seals for your water drains. They come in all sizes and are great for projects like this. Plus they are only $2-$6 a piece depending on size.
