Those of you don’t know, Stuart Broad trained be an opening batsman like his father. Later when he grew taller and changed to be a pacer. He came in the squad as an All rounder.
I remember watching this and thinking, "well we have a new all rounder here in Stuart Broad" although that hasn't really materialised, Broad saved the day by playing with a straight bat and just remembering his training. Time and again here we can see that playing with a straight bat will get you out of trouble...
This match ended careers of asif and butt and almost ended career of amir( that infamous no ball by amir was in this match). This test also convinced me at that point that broad is an allrounder 😂
As usual for the time, we were in a whole world of trouble at 102-7 when Broad came into bat, nobody could ever have foreseen what was to happen then, to drag us from yet another woefully embarrassing test innings to the thick end of 450 before the partnership came to an end, what an amazing innings from Trott and Broad, I think it will be a very very long time before their world record stand will be threatened never mind beaten
One wonders what would have become of Broad, the batsman, if not for being hit in the face. I doubt that he would have attained these heights regularly but he could probably have been averaging mid-to-high twenties.
I remember this innings so well. It was when they felt broad could have been a bowling all rounder, in all honesty he could have been! And a very good one at that. Although when Stuart eventually calls time on his career and looks back on it I doubt he’ll be too disappointed with it. I also used to love Jonathan Trott, such a classy and mentally strong batsman. Like old boots, tough, reliable and unassuming yet brilliant. Such a shame his test career was short. As a bears fan though I’m glad we got so much of him!

Taking nothing away from the two batsman, but after a score of 150+ on the board, it seems like none of the bowlers really wanted to get them out, it looks like a net practice session with an intention to keep them at crease as long as possible.
