Doing my own research, I think GT did better in Japan than most people would give it credit for, especially because from what I found, it was originally intended to end at episode 40, the end of the Baby Saga, but got a 24 episode extension. This does really suggest that it was somewhat successful originally
According to a more in depth geekdom video on the topic, it was originally supposed to be really long, like a full on continuation hundreds of episodes long, and was cancelled
Sorry but your research is faulty. I saw the same wiki article that claimed it would end after 40 but it cited no source. It was a baseless rumour that the Super Baby Arc was meant to be the end. There's also no way they could've planned for the Super Baby Arc to end on 40 because the original plan was for half the show to be aventure/comedy Dragon Ball homage and the other half to be martial arts Dragon Ball Z homage. Because they were losing their audience, the wrapped up the Searching Space Arc sooner than intended to get to the Super Baby Arc, so your claim is impossible.
I'll accept anyone's opinion when they say GT sucked ass. I liked it. It was OK for me. But one thing I hate about the people that hate GT is that a lot of people are just jumping on the hate bandwagon and don't understand what they're talking about.

DG GT wasn't perfect, but it wasn't bad. Just because it isn't canon doesn't mean it's ass. It has faults, inconsistencies, it has loathing moments. But Akira should redo the series and make it his own. SSJ4 was the best transformation aside from Gogeta.
Great video. It's refreshing to see someone use logic and actually point out interesting details instead of just screaming all day about how bad they think it is. The details your friend pointed out have always been in my head as well which always made me wonder why people hate this show so much when it has genius concepts. People say they don't like Gt but you like that Goku and Vegeta have to get power from other people and call it their own in the recent movies? Again great video I hope this opens some minds.
Dragon ball gt wasn't bad. It just wasn't as good as Z. At the start of gt it was shitty but the baby saga was good. The super 17 saga was ok and parts of the shadow dragon saga were bad but parts of it were actually really awesome.
they fucked up with Uub. You were given the reincarnation of the most powerful villain in DBZ, had him trained by Goku, and was the last man standing at one point against Baby. And what do they do? They shit the bed with him, turn him into chocolate, and make him ridiculously irrelevant. They missed big time with Uub
I personally like GT. It isn't as good as Z or DB, but it's still a great show once the action picked up. They should give the other characters a chance, I mean Majuub is supposed to be around SBV2 tier, and just gets shunned away like the others. BTW I may be the only person who enjoyed the whole of GT. I hope they remake GT into a great show sometime in the future. Plus Funi should hire better musicians to make the music for GT; Mark Menza is just terrible at making music. Animepill has the Eng dub with the much, much better Japanese soundtrack.
GT never felt like it had a slow start to me Z kinda had more of slow start in my opinion.. mainly because the Raditz episodes felt kinda uninteresting to me... once Vegeta and Nappa arrive Z starts to get better.

Loud and in the way alot. granted she's stronger than Hercule but still. i mean they could've had her do the second part with the shadow dragons and let Trunks and Goten go to space with Goku. i think that way the audience might not have been as annoyed by her.
chaoszieg well i did, i watched the spanish version with the original ost and i pretty much think that GT is pretty much like super. It had an ok arc (the black Star arc), a great arc (Baby arc), a terrible arc (super 17) and a plain good arc (shadow dragons). The only two difference are that GT's worst animations weren't as bad as super's and GT's best animations/fights, weren't as good as the best of super. Also, as Super is going to have more episodes than GT, super has more probability to end up being better.

The Shadow Dragons was a cool concept but the One Star Dragon sucked. He is a generic doomsday villain, meaning he has no coherent motivation, goals, or personality; he is defined solely by the threat he poses.
One Star Dragon was supposed to be pure unadulterated manifestation of the negative energy collected on the balls. Li Shenlong was given form by the purest and most selfless wishes of them all, so he is the total opposite of that. He is evil for no reason just like you dont have a reason to be selfless, he cant be justified and shouldnt be justified.
Leon Damon You could remake it to account for the events after Super. Maybe it could have more direct involvement from Akira Toriyama. Maybe not a straight remake even. But take the good ideas out of GT and refine them and make a sequel to Super.
i had issues with GT,but never quite got why a sector of the fandom was so negative about it. Sure the 1st part is very Star Trek-ian in its sci-fi procedimental narrative but you notice the growth of the characters and never stops being fun,later on with Baby you feel the stakes and when it gets to the big fights it´s personal and emotionally rewarding,plus the SS4 design is genius thematically,phisically and storywise

Dragon Ball Z was never a particularly well-written show, especially for the post-Freeza stuff where the show basically becomes an un-self-aware parody of itself later on. At least GT brought back some fun and enjoyment to the franchise and dealt with a villain who had proper motivations (Baby) and the heroes overuse of the Dragon Balls coming back to bite them in the ass (Shadow Dragons).
IMO: Nah, the Japanese OST is fucking stellar, Super Saiyan 4 itself is stunning, Baby is a great villain and I like how Goku was a mentor to Pan. Plus the ending is a tear jerker for long time fans
I'm a GT fan. I have a few complaints, though. 1) Pan was just too whiny. If she were a bit more tough, like her mom, dad, and Goku, it would be much better. But, for a tomboy, she is incredibly whiny. 2) All but one of the main villains had TERRIBLE execution. Super 17 didn't live up to his full potential, being taken out purely by Goku. The Shadow Dragons were an AMAZING concept, the reasons for which would take too long here, but should have each had different fights with the different Z-Fighters based on which wish(es) they were made from (ex: Piccolo fighting the wish to bring back everyone killed by Demon King Piccolo), as opposed to Goku (and Pan) hunting them all down one-by-one. Baby was the only one who's execution was done well, but it could've been done better. 3) No one got any attention besides Goku and Pan. Even the other Saiyans didn't matter much. They only ever mattered as villains in the Baby saga, but even then they barely even did anything. Vegeta was the only one who did anything of importance, but even then it was only because he was required for Gogeta to happen. 4) The first arc was literally pointless. They tried to recreate the first arc of the Dragon Ball, but failed miserably. Nothing happened, nothing was accomplished, no one really changed. You could take it out and nothing would be changed.
if GT is redone with Akira having some part in the story it would do better. also don't make Goku a kid or the only main character. GT had great tools that they didn't use example ssj adult gotenks,, making Vegeta ssj3, keeping the power of Ultimate Gohan, having Pan become a ssj, and having Trunks and Goten reach ssj2. then this can all be canon if they're alternate time lines. with DBZ being the main timeline then DBS and DBGT can be alternate timelines
Jordan Myers idk if that would work because toei animation mostly created gt. Toriyama had created some of the character designs, but in terms of the story that was for the most part toei's gig. I feel that if they paid more attention to detail and consistency, and yeah, gave other characters more screen time/relevance, and didn't focus so much early on the intention to harken back to the original DragonBall, I feel that gt would be FAR better received. there are other issues that I would change, but I really don't want to get too far into it. also, seeing how super is turning out, and it's almost entirely toriyama's project, (not that I dislike super) what difference would it make if toriyama made the story opposed to toei?
I would rate the 4 series here: Dragon Ball: 8/10 - Very Good Dragon Ball Z: 8.5 /10 - Very Good Dragon Ball Super: 6.7/10 - Acceptable (So far) Dragon Ball GT: 7/10 - Good Why DBGT isn't a 8+? -Kid Goku, maybe not cuz he is a kid but cokyness (cokiness?). -Pan, the Goku and Pan show is almost like incest eww. -Super 17, ughh Super 17 arc... -The secondary characters to third characters, Gohan,Goten, ANYONE! they are Yamcha/Puar/Oolongs now. -Plotholes, OMG the plotholes...even worst than Z... -Grand Tour arc, Dragon Ball style stuff that don't fit within a Dragon Ball Z continuation. Why DBGT isn't a 7-? -Major villains, amazing major villains origins and designs (Not S17). -SSJ4, good backstory ,great design. -Ideas, very creative story ideas for a Dragon Ball Z continuation. -Animation, very good animation for the most part. -SSj4 Gogeta, i mean... he's Gogeta one of the most badass characters in DBZ...In one of the most badass transformatons in the DB franchise. Yes GT is better than Super at the time IMO.
After super they could remake GT. Take the good ideas, adapt them to the new continuity and give them a better execution. For example merge the Super 17 and Shadow Dragon arcs. Insted of Super 17 perhaps use Cell (say the "present" cell fetus survived the destruction of Gero's sublab). Then, isnted of roudnign up al lthe escaped villains offscreen have them atempt to use the Dragon Balls to send them back only to create the Shadow Dragons and have them use the villains as henchmen, enhancign them to the point where they are a threat again. And since there are so many different villains all over the place DONT MAKE GOKU DEAL WITH ALL OF THE DRAGONS. Some of the cinematics for Dragon Ball Heroes seem to be goign with that idea.
The only reason that i watched GT was because i saw so many people hating on it and i wanted to check it out for myself. I'll admit that when.goku was turned into a kid i almost stopped watching but i decided to stick with it and overall i ended up loving it. I legitmately love GT and I'll always defend it when people hate on it but i'd be lying if i said that GT didn't make any mistakes and did some things horribly

gt was good and kid goku was exellent because every1 is full grown and he turns adult at ssj4 I just wished they stretched it out it seemed stuff was happening too fast they should of kept the storyline and characters the same but stretched it out to 100 episodes
Guess I'm in the minority of people who loved GT. Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z had plenty of flaws too. Dragon Ball Super is okay.. But the worst series out of all of them imo
At least GT fucking resembles DBZ, Super feels like it doesn't belong at all in terms of pacing, tone, overall story telling, and the animation is sooo bad. Baby actually feels like a legitimate villain and stays in line with the overall aesthetic that DBZ and its movies maintained.
Some of the best designs came from GT, I still think SSJ4 looks better than SSBlue. And SUPER is garbage, they finally get one good fight scene in ep57 which kinda look like DB ABSOLON if you ask me.

Dragon Ball GT, I will defend it to my dying day but it has it's moments. +The SS4 transformations are awesome, SS4 Goku, Vegeta and Gogeta. They are some of my fave transformations +While most of the characters were irrelevent to a point but at least they still had some kick ass moments, especially when you consider the same characters in Super. I mean look at Gohan. In GT he's humerous, powerful and dresses much better. In Super he gets his ass kicked by Ginyu??? and that tracksuit.....never will I forgive them. +The main enemies were awesome, I mean Baby. Tragic tuffle survivor. Super 17, while not entirely sure on his powers being so high he did have an interesting concept. Then the Shadow Dragons, they were awesome, maybe not appearence wise but it shows what happens when the Dragon Balls are misused as fortold by Old Kai. -Goku being a child really got to me. You know he would have been more awesome as an adult. -Pan singularly threw me off for a lot of the episodes. -As I said some characters were borderline useless. However most of the complaints about GT can be made about Super. I mean Piccolo has been reduced to babysitter....literally....and dies to Captain Ginyu. Also Gohan....and just about everyone else who can't become a Sayian with blue hair. Also at least GT had original concepts and wasn't just BoG and RF lite.
GT isn't canon. You can take away GT and the ending of Z still fits because Goku is just flying off with uub at the end. There is absolutely no plothole either made if you take away GT
To me GT can be cannon but in a different way. To me Their two options Option 1 Dragon Ball, is the only definitive cannon but the timeline splits there. GT is a sequel to Z while Super is a sequel to Z Kai. Option 2 During the Goku Black Arc in Super they introduced the time rings and each ring is a different reality. Who’s to say GT is not one of those realities? Option 2 Animation wise the art style always feel off to me. I really can’t put my finger on why. Maybe I don’t think this is what these characters would look like when they get older.
2 main things that annoyed me the most is GT was Kid Goku being the only relevant fighter, and..... PAN! She was what made GT nearly unwatchable.The score, plotholes, and progression of the story itself was bland as well. Though I did enjoy the parasite Baby, as well as SSJ4, Gogeta SSJ4, and the whole concept of the Shadow Dragons.

Cell Jr. Did you watch the english dub ? Serious that Dub made the plot more confuse, created more plot hole and made Pan way more annoying that she ever was. GT was pretty popular in Latin America and even in Japan it's better remember compared to the U.S.
Baby is actually a rip-off of Hatchiyack. Both are very similar to Cell. Baby is unique because he is a parasyte and eventually infects the entire population except Mister Satan, Buu and Uub.

GT is far better than people say it is. Lots of cool ideas, good designs, and better plots than it gets credit for. The execution of said ideas and designs was the poorly conceived shit.
Interesting subject you two are talking about. I for my part have watched the entirety of the DB/DBZ/DBGT anime shows prior to reading the manga, so from the beginning I took DBGT being a part of the official DB cannon for granted. However, there was still a lot I disliked about DBGT, making me criticize it very early actually: 1.) Goku turning back to a kid. This argument has been used a lot and a counterargument often was that he was a kid in DB as well, and many of the people hating GT love DB. The thing is, the DB manga and DB/DBZ anime show was a unique concept since it, unlike other anime shows, didn't just show us several months or years of a character, but rather almost gave us an entire lifespan, starting with a 12 year old kid and finishing the series with a almost 50 year old grandpa. Goku grew with his audience and so did the entire series. Turning Goku back in GT threw that concept overboard, for reasons I cannot comprehend, to be honest. It should ad a comedic affect to the series, I guess, but in my opinion that concept failed terribly. 2.) Character design. I like what GT did with some characters in terms of appearance, such as Pan or Bra. However, other characters such as Vegeta or Krillin they destroyed completely. This may be the fault of Toriyama, but I still criticize this about the show. Those changes just seemed unnecessary. 3.) The focus was way too strong on Goku. I respect him being the main character but the entirety of DBGT was about Goku being significant and the rest of the team horribly insignificant (with Pan as raw exception then and when). This was just overdone and never in DB/DBZ was Goku so dominant compared to other fighters. 4.) Oob, who was revealed as the great student of Goku, who Goku will pass the torch to. In DBGT, however, he also was horribly insignificant. Now people can criticize the same thing about Gohan, since Goku also seemed to pass the torch to him. However, despite Toriyama deciding not to make Gohan as the main character, he wasn't a punching bag as Oob was. He still defeated Super Perfect Cell and with his Ultimate form he was presumably the third strongest character at the end of the Boo arc, behind Super Boo with Gohan/Gotenks and Vegito. So building up Oob, just to make him another character that can be beat to death prior to Goku showing up to save the day, wasn't very well written, in my opinion. 5.) I know many people like the Black Star Dragons, but in my opinion they just made no sense. It was stated that a Dragon is born with every wish that was granted, but how can it be that there were far more than seven wishes but only seven dragons? How is it that time dissolves the negative energy slowly, but the Dragon Balls first start to crack, after they haven't wished anything for 15 years? Where do they gain their power, despite Shenron being weaker than King Piccolo? I enjoyed the fights, but I had a really hard time believing the theory the show gave us. 6.) Plot holes. Now I know there are some in DB/DBZ too, but to be honest I never thought they were as bad or couldn't been explained logically. The only real inconsistency is, how Goku could bring the bunny members on the moon, although he cannot breath in space. But being aware of the fact that DB had an entire different concept in his first arc in comparison to the Freeza arc it's forgivable. In DBGT, however, just too many things didn't make any sense: why would Kami, despite him being a good guy with only a evil side within him, create a dragon who destroys the Earth after a wish has be granted? And why should he send them around space, although he wasn't aware of being an alien in the first place. And how did he even have the power, since we know that Piccolo can't create any Dragon Balls anymore? Besides, with Nail inside him he's not the same Namekian anymore he was when coming to Earth. This just didn't make any sense. Goku couldn't control SSJ3 because his body was too small for the affordable amount of energy. But Gotenks could, how does that work? Why can't Piccolo enter hell, even dough Toei themselves made Goku travel to hell several times? How could Shenron suddenly grant a wish more than once (bringing Krillin back for example)? How can Cooler be in the show, despite him being not part of the anime and cannot be classified in the timeline? How can a car accident almost kill Trunks of glass damage Goku, although bullets couldn't even hurt him in the first manga chapter? One word to your point Hail Zeon: I understand why you criticize Toriyama for bringing those characters out of nowhere. However, I thought the introduction of Boo and Beerus made a lot more sense than the Cyborgs or the Shadow Dragons. Freeza was the most powerful being in the universe and Dr. Gero could just create cyborgs out of nothing being stronger, despite them being normal humans? I thought that was always hard to believe. Same by the shadow dragons, who surpass the power of Shenron by far, although he can't be more powerful than his creator and has been destroyed by King Piccolo in the past? Now I agree that Baby and Super 17 were explained decent enough to make sense, but having villains who are several millions of years old and just come from an ancient time makes it easier for me to buy than to create them out of nowhere, since a really good explanation must be given to the audience in the process. DBGT isn't a horrible anime show, but it isn't very good as well. In my opinion it's vastly inferior to DB/DBZ and the criticism is well judged. I'd probably give it a 4/10, while DB/DBZ rank a about 9 or 10/10. I've seen worse, but I don't see any necessity in watching DBGT again (I watched it 3 times up to now), since I only seem to be able to enjoy it when I switch of my Dragon Ball brain and I don't really like that. Now Super has this problem partially too, but we're talking about DBGT now, so I'll judge it independent of Super.
I'd love to add several things here focusing too much on goku and not letting uub take the torch sucked, we'll go with that being turned back into a kid was cool, and goku's body was never as strong as goten or trunks (who were born AFTER several major power increases that made their former selves literally look like nothing, so going by that logic, goku's body wouldn't be able to handle nearly the same amount of power [if you put his gt power into the what do you think would happen]) the characters and other things were good ideas super 17 was cool and a combination of new and nostalgic too much goku is not good they did good things ss4 goku ss4 gogeta ss4 vegeta (gohan is equally as shitty in gt or super, so you can't say gohan is getting pussified only then) pan wasn't the worst ive seen (annoying but not terrible) now going by the overall execution, it was terrible however, you have to remember that they made many changes (some good some bad) to the timeline as a whole there are inconsistencies in all seroes
ANIMANIA Well, as I said before, Super has some flaws I criticize about DBGT as well, but this video was about GT, so I guess it's accurate to focus solely on the DBGT flaws. Now I know some of the things I criticize here may be valid for other series I do enjoy as well. And if I think about it, DBZ had flaws I criticize as well, however, the series still kept me entertained, due to a lot of epic moments the series added. So, in my opinion, it's difficult to argue about liking or disliking something due to it's qualities, I think it's an overall expression which gives you a personal judgement about a series.
The concept of GT was superb at the end. Fighting the corrupted dragon balls, makes sense. Thats genius! And the regrowing of the Saiyin Tail was another great idea. Toei can definitely use those ideas for super. The concept was beautiful but The execution was done poorly. Omega Sheron was also a great idea.
GT had a few decent ideas like ssj4 (minus the magic clothing) and golden oozaru I especially think is cool, so much so that I would like to see it made canon officially in super. But in GT there are major plot points that make no sense, even more so then the plot inconsistencies in Z. But honestly the Baby saga especially is actually pretty good, the shadow dragon saga was also ok.
@@aloysiuswhiteboat2934 Yea but the technique IS kinda magical in essence. SSJ4 is just a primal transformation. Nothing really magical about it. A physical transformation that also magically produces pants kinda makes no sense.
I also honestly really enjoyed how GT at least sort of tried to flush out the rest of the universe. Instead of shit just randomly happening on Earth and getting basically the same environment thrown at you and the same things at stake. They did a good job showing off the planets and making the show more diverse in a way, and feel like a show where saying you're a universal or planetary threat means something because you get a taste of the rest of the universe. Like, for the first off-Earth adventure, Planet Namek was very bland and everywhere just felt the same and very barren, while the other places in GT feel like actual other worldly places that could very well exist in the universe.
I actually enjoyed Gt a lot. It's not as good as Z, obviously. However, to have another decent adventure in the dragon ball mythos (even if its not cannon) was cool. It has flaws but overall had a lot of cool moments and was fun to watch.
DBGT: Cool concepts, lackluster execution, not enough of anyone else but Goku until near its end, SSJ4 is interesting but convoluted, SSJ4 Gogeta is a Beast. Also, BIG-BANG KAMEHAMEHA!!!!!~_~
I love this video. GT was as good and as bad as Z. One of the things that I did like is that, unlike Z, GT tried to expand the world and show that there were consequences to the actions of the protagonists. I really wish Super kept the idea of overusing the dragonballs - the canon Dragonball universe has no consequences whatsoever, and that makes it hard to care about anything.

The only thing that I can agree on the criticism of GT is that Goku is used too much. It's like 50% of Goku doing work in GT. They had other characters to use like Majuub and others, but they weren't that much of help. Overall I think GT is a good series with amazing ideas but weren't used at their fullest. If Toei & Funimation ever decide to reboot the series, I hoped that they listened to the fan's opinions about some of the problems with GT.
I rewatching GT now I think my biggest thing as a teen and now that I didn’t like was the U.S. sound track. I watched it Japanese original I love the soundtrack still do. So the DVD set you can watch dub with the Japanese music. I also feel GT is a love letter to the original Dragon Ball. DB Super is a love letter to Dragon Ball Z.
I just realized from listening to this discussion how GT is a parallel to Z, in terms of villains. Baby and Freeza: Both started off as small, rather frail looking villains. They both have equal amount of transformations/mutations, they both have some sort of devastating past with the Saiyajins, AND they both are the result of a new power busting Super Saiyajin form coming to life. Super 17 and Cell: Both are creations of science influenced by Gero, both had somewhat similar roles to obtaining a perfect form, and both have the tables turned on them because of Cyborg 18 (even though Cell came back thanks to plot) Syn Shenron and Buu: Both are super-ancient beings that were brought onto Earth thanks to negative energy, both could have been killed by a Fusion-based character had not all of them (all 3 I should point out) goofed off, and both perished from the Spirit Bomb, though technically did not die (Buu lives on in Fat Buu and Uub, where as the Shadow Dragons will just come back as soon as enough bad wishes are made again) And it's even more ironic that they are in perfect order.

The biggest issue i had with GT is that they tried too hard to recapture the feeling of the original dragonball series, when Goku was still a kid. It makes no sense for the pilaf gang to wish Goku young again and it didnt add anything to story. They could have wished for something which makes more sense and still have the premise of the Blackstar Dragonballs being a threat going. It simply felt like a cheap copout to nerf Goku, so they wont have to be creative to create new threatening villains. But Then again they made Goku OP anyway. It also certainly didnt help that they made everyone else almost irrelevant. I liked the concept of most arcs and villains in GT and especially the ssj4 transformation is pretty awesome imo, so its a shame that they didnt execute it that well. The non canon thing doesnt bother me. I'm a huge fan of some DBZ movies which arent canon either, especially fusion reborn. People should give the series more credit, it certainly gets more sht on than it deserves.
Ultimate Spoopynator exept Super has only done 3 arcs... and the Universe 6 arc is still better than anything GT has done...especially when Vegeta and Goku got involved. Then their was the Beerus arc and that was still better than GT.
Guessing you stopped at the Frieza arc. because after that the animation problems ended. And not only that but the plot is much more complex than what happened in GT with time travel, time paradoxes, different forms of god's, Bringing back old Dragon Ball themes like the Mafuba and the Galic Gun. Goku even brought back the fucking Kio Ken and mixed it with his god form... hands down the best transformation in DB history. GT has few plot Holes... let me list every single last one of them. 1) The shadow dragon arc should not have happen... the dragonball's were created by Dende and were designed to recharge after a year... but for some reason the turn corrupt and become dragon's... I call BS. 2) The baby arc is fucking retarded for the fact that the Tuffles had absolutely no special powers and if Baby was that strong to begin with then how did they get wiped out but fucking Raditz level saiyans. 3) The Arc where Goku and Trunks traveled the galaxy is retarded just in general and it was uninspired as hell. It had no main villain and just featured Goku and friends doing community service for other planets. 4) The Shadow dragons were shit and no one can take them seriously except for Omega, Ice, and Nova. 5) Super 17 was probably the best villain in GT and he was only mediocre at best and Uub was the only good hero introduced. 6) they fucking killed Piccolo... and he went to hell which was retarded. And now you want to talk about power scaling? OK 1) why couldn't baby one shot a planet. 2) were the Z fighters impressed when Omega destroyed a City. 3) Why was Gohan struggling in his fight against Goten. 4)Why is Goten going Ssj 1 even though his mystic form was much stronger. 5) how was it that Goku at base was only able to keep up with Uub who was Buu level at best but could beat Gohan who was much stronger than that. 6) Why is that Vegeta never went Super Saiyan 3 and right to 4 even... and that alone is supid because Vegeta was already able to create his own Flux waves.
Now you want to take about Super. 1) literally no plot hole fool... for every topic they brought up they referenced DBZ 2)Beerus Whis and the other gods were the most original idea in all of Dagonball and opened up new possibilities. 3) they brought back Frieza THE GREATEST VILLIAN IN DRAGONBALL an gave him a new form. 4) The 12 universes expanded the Dragonball universe and opened up new possibilities. 5) There is an evil Goku and Idea thought of ever since the beginning of Dragonball and it was done to perfection with and actual sense of Urgency. Not only that but the solution isn't get stronger and win but we need techniques so we can win. they brought back the Mafuba 7) They brought back Trunks. 8) The universe 6 arc opened new possibilities with planet salad and Zeno the Omni king. 9) there are still over 20 characters who have yet to be introduced. Now please tell me any plot holes Super left open.

Well lets see - we brought trunks back. - we traveled to new universes - we discovered the super dragonballs - we had a universal tournament - we FINAL achieved the concept of an evil Goku -and a possibly of a planet Salad arc. 5. Oh please Black is arguably Toriama's best villain and even Geekdom said it himself. And lazy design? What else will an evil Goku look like... CHI CHI???? and what problems man... nothing in GT compares to this arc... let me recap on what happened. - Dragonball got it's first immortal being - Black killed Goku's family with his Body and then Bulma -The setting is post apocalyptic - Time travel is a major element and even a paradox was set. -They are bringing back Gogeta 6. That was literally the worst rebuttal ever... Do you know how many people sent Akira death threats for taking Future trunks out of Dragonball. 7. How about because he was only in 2 episodes and is only a child... and except the everything Akira is doing and Fans have been dreaming of this scenarios for ages.

Honestly, I actually think GT deserves to have a second chance. I thought it was cool of the concept of the adventures of a kid Goku, finding the Dragon Balls, and the return of the tails. Also, Super Saiyan 4 is awesome in my opinion. Just because something's not cannon doesn't mean it should be hated, like Broly. Broly's actually non-canonon, and he's a bit of a liked character. On the topic of villians, Baby was an amazing concept as a parasitic baddie who takes control of a hero. Hardly EVER has a hero turned bad. The tails are also epic. The tails pretty much vanished after Vegeta's got cut off, and it would be amazing for a cannon comeback. That would be intriguing seeingh how characters would interact, the comeback of the Oozaru, possibly SSJ4 made cannon, and they would be stronger. I actually did watch GT when it was airing (years after they were made) and I liked it. The graphics, even though I have to admit they were bad, it was kinda nostalgic going back to a retro feel. I even LIKED Pan to be honest. I didn't find her annoying.. not NEARLY as much as the Parapara brothers. The Dragon Balls were also interesting, having them scattered across the universe. And with great power comes with a catch; The planet would be destroyed in one year. So guys, please give GT a second shot.
I didnt think GT was THAT bad, especially if you watch it in Japanese. I can see why people who only saw GT dubbed would despise it, the soundtrack was awful in English. Dan Dan Kokoro Hikareteku (the original opening) is arguably one of my favorite openings in the series. While GT is definitely my least favorite series so far, I did like some moments. I liked how they handled Goku turing SSJ4 in the original version and I really enjoyed some of the fights. Would I watch it more than once or twice? Probably not. I don't hate GT, but there was wasted potential there. Good video!
I watched years ago GT before I knew it wasn't created by akira toriyama, and while I watched it, I was definitively entertained. After getting deeper into the dragonball lore and re-watching it 10 years later, I noticed some inconsistencies, but it didn't diminish the fact that I enjoyed the series while I was watching it. Sure, its not quite the same, but it was time well spent.
Some people makes GT look bad without saying the full context like goku broken after a fight but what is the point they focused on its the glass moment and the lifting tower thing they underestimated GT goku so bad and I don't know why people hate a 10 years old girl for going to a space adventure and because she is not a super saiyan like haters of GT are bad having their opinions but people who force you to dislike something is bad because their is a fan forced me to dislike GT
The thing I really liked about kid Goku's character was that he seems a lot more sharp in his fights. He looks alot more like a skilled and experienced fighter then he ever did in z. When he fights you can tell he has a history of battles with strong foes when in z they just make everyone powerhouses.
I remember buying the complete series of GT last year and watched everything. It's not on the same page as DB and DBZ (Since it isn't directly from toriyama) but it does have its good moments that I enjoy. I feel that a lot of folks should jump off the 'gt sucks bandwagon' and at least watch it over with an open mind. It's not perfect but all I can say is that it has it's good moments.
I definitely agree GT had some excellent concepts but poor execution. I never felt fond of GT the way I did with Dragonball & DBZ, but I also never thought it was nearly as bad as most people claim it is.

GT had a beautiful soundtrack. Also I think GT was decent. I liked Pan and Goku's relationship but it focused to much on them. Baby was a legit villain. Super 17 was ehhh. Shadow Dragons could've been great. It had promise but I don't really want to watch it again. But if you never have seen it you should give it a chance because you might like it!

DBGT would be a good anime if it wasn't related to DBZ... Aka:> remove all the DBZ character and add random character in their place with a story not related to DBZ, but keep everything else, change the Kamehameha name and so on. People would definitely call it a DBZ ripoff, but it would still be good or at least decent in people mind, the anime would obviously not have all the hate it has right now... It make no sense? Well this is just fact... People hate DBGT since it is far from be as good as DBZ or DB. DBS is what DBGT should have been.
The problem with GT's villains is that they don't make any sense. You say Toriyama's later villains came out of nowhere, and that might be true, but at least their power was justified by their importance. Majin Buu was an universe-threatening monster who had killed gods and was feared by them. And then GT goes and introduces a guy like Rilldo, saying he's stronger than Majin Buu. That just doesn't make any sense. Vegeta at 18,000 was enough to solo difficult planets, how did a planet with guys powerful like Rilldo just fly past everyone's radar? That just makes no sense and you know it. And the shadow dragons are the greatest offenders of all. Shenron was the smallest, weakest dragon and Earth's Dragonballs were the smallest out of all of them. Shenron was literally killed by King Piccolo whose power was a measly 250. How can something like making several wishes with these balls create negative energy dragons powerful enough to give pause to a SSj4 Goku (whose base power is greater than his SSj3 power was at the end of Z)??? The Shadow Dragon saga could MAYBE have worked if it happened right after Vegeta's first defeat on Earth, with Omega Shenron being barely stronger than him. Likewise, I don't see guys such as Rilldo any higher than Zarbon level for them to make sense. Freeza was said to be the most powerful being in the universe for fuck's sake! And don't even get me started on Super 17, what a fucking disgrace. That's precisely why we don't really visit other planets much anymore in Super. There simply wouldn't logically be any challenge there. The stakes are now much higher. The new villains' extreme strength is justified in that they're the top beings in existence - and honestly that's the only logical direction to go from the end of Z. If anything, Super does that right.
How about the fact that it took a ritual in order to turn Goku into a Super Saiyan -God and Trunks who isn't even a Super Saiyan 3 received ridiculous power boosts out of nowhere and was able to keep up with SSJR Goku Black and eventually destroy Fusion Zamasu?How is this justified?
I think GT's biggest flaw was leaving out of the action most of the main characters who were getting too old, and not putting forward really exciting new young characters. It would have been possible. The Zs have plenty of grown up children: Trunks, Goten, Bra, Pan, Marron... but none of them really becomes a significant fighter like Goku, Gohan or Vegeta were. So all the fans are left to "feed on" are aging Vegeta (with a moustache....) and Goku turned back into a kid. The only excitement is when they turn into SSJ4. Baby and Super Android 17 were the most interesting villains in GT, but again, the fights involded pretty much only Vegeta and Goku, with a little participation from a few supportive characters. But that's it. They could have done better.

One thing I want to point out about Hail Zeon's problems with villains like Majin Buu & Beerus because they've "always existed". To tell you the truth that's actually kind of the point because that relates to one of the big major lessons that Goku learned as a kid: "No matter how strong you are there will always be someone out there who's stronger." That's what Dragonball has always been about: Always keep on pushing yourself past your limits because no matter how far you go there's always gonna be more and more challenges out there. This is a lesson that Goku learned from both Mr. Popo and Master Roshi (which is also one the reasons why Roshi disguised himself as Jackie Chun to prevent Goku & Krillin from winning the 21st Tenkaichi Budokai). Even the ending of Battle of Gods reveals this when Beerus tells Goku that there are 12 universes.
The issues with GT aren't about the villains as much as they're about the main characters. Goku being a kid again for the WHOLE SERIES was just silly. Regrowing his tail from making coffee with a pair of pliers, come on now... Then Super Sayajin 4 miraculously making him full size again (so he can conveniently fuse with Vegeta) and covered in pink gorilla body hair with longer black hair (though Vegeta said their hair NEVER CHANGES FROM BIRTH) instead of just being a different iteration of blonde with blue eyes like every single other Super Saiyajin version really jumped the shark. The villains were pretty creative. They didn't have just some stronger guy miraculously show up like Z and Super did. They had the robots, Baby, and dark dragons all manifest after the fact. But the heroes being so painful to watch was my biggest issue

From changing from golden to pink/red. To their SSJ4 forms being different colors down to the eyes. to their "unchanging hair" changing. to Goku suddenly taking adult form... temporarily. To Vegeta growing his tail back... temporarily. It's like all logic went out the window for SSJ4

About the only thing I liked about it was that they had to become golden Oozaru and control that form before ascending to SSJ4

Coming up with an ancient set of dangerous dragon balls that have been on the lookout all along, through so many battles and total destruction (and God knows what Popo did to it off camera). These stupid black star dragon balls get scattered across the universe despite all being gathered on the lookout and the only ship being Kami's, yet somehow they were all gathered within a year. And somehow they show up on the radar for GT but they went completely through DB & DBZ without even a tiny blip. Then then when Goku and pals had to re-gather them, knowing the gravity of the situation, Goku goes with Pan and Trunks. Though Vegeta would obviously be a clear suggestion for the crew over Pan. Over Goku really. Instead of their goofing off, he would have stayed disciplined and got it done quickly. Even smarter would be to send multiple crews. I never understood why there was only the one singular radar too (but that's a more vague issue). Sorry for the long post but I wanted to put everything that nagged at me about just the dragon balls in this post

Hey Geekdom, you know what would have helped give the Black Star balls some meaning in the series for existing? what if Kami originally made the black star balls as a means to absorb and store the negative energy the original dragonballs would generate so as to avoid them from cracking? and because Piccolo died the black star dragonballs were turned to stone and could no longer store the negative energy which forced all the energy they had to revert back into the balls, but because the gates to hell opened up and the amount that was stored was too much to begin with, these two things could have caused the evil dragons to emerge. but that's pretty much my own head canon: After Kami ascended to god status on earth, he wanted to create the dragonballs to be a symbol of hope to the people, but despite the mortals only supposedly being able to find the balls every hundred or so years, Kami made a fail safe to help keep the negative energy in check and that was the black star dragonballs, which would absorb any negative energy the regular dragonballs create and would act as their own source of power, hence why the negative energy would envelop the earth after every wish and blow it up,were to be stored in the lookout and never to be used. what do you think?

Doing my own research, I think GT did better in Japan than most people would give it credit for, especially because from what I found, it was originally intended to end at episode 40, the end of the Baby Saga, but got a 24 episode extension. This does really suggest that it was somewhat successful originally

Sorry but your research is faulty. I saw the same wiki article that claimed it would end after 40 but it cited no source. It was a baseless rumour that the Super Baby Arc was meant to be the end. There's also no way they could've planned for the Super Baby Arc to end on 40 because the original plan was for half the show to be aventure/comedy Dragon Ball homage and the other half to be martial arts Dragon Ball Z homage. Because they were losing their audience, the wrapped up the Searching Space Arc sooner than intended to get to the Super Baby Arc, so your claim is impossible.

DG GT wasn't perfect, but it wasn't bad. Just because it isn't canon doesn't mean it's ass. It has faults, inconsistencies, it has loathing moments. But Akira should redo the series and make it his own. SSJ4 was the best transformation aside from Gogeta.
Great video. It's refreshing to see someone use logic and actually point out interesting details instead of just screaming all day about how bad they think it is. The details your friend pointed out have always been in my head as well which always made me wonder why people hate this show so much when it has genius concepts. People say they don't like Gt but you like that Goku and Vegeta have to get power from other people and call it their own in the recent movies? Again great video I hope this opens some minds.

Dragon ball gt wasn't bad. It just wasn't as good as Z. At the start of gt it was shitty but the baby saga was good. The super 17 saga was ok and parts of the shadow dragon saga were bad but parts of it were actually really awesome.
I personally loved GT, and I wish it were canon and that Super took place after GT
they fucked up with Uub. You were given the reincarnation of the most powerful villain in DBZ, had him trained by Goku, and was the last man standing at one point against Baby. And what do they do? They shit the bed with him, turn him into chocolate, and make him ridiculously irrelevant. They missed big time with Uub

I personally like GT. It isn't as good as Z or DB, but it's still a great show once the action picked up. They should give the other characters a chance, I mean Majuub is supposed to be around SBV2 tier, and just gets shunned away like the others.
BTW I may be the only person who enjoyed the whole of GT. I hope they remake GT into a great show sometime in the future.
Plus Funi should hire better musicians to make the music for GT; Mark Menza is just terrible at making music. Animepill has the Eng dub with the much, much better Japanese soundtrack.

chaoszieg well i did, i watched the spanish version with the original ost and i pretty much think that GT is pretty much like super.
It had an ok arc (the black Star arc), a great arc (Baby arc), a terrible arc (super 17) and a plain good arc (shadow dragons).
The only two difference are that GT's worst animations weren't as bad as super's and GT's best animations/fights, weren't as good as the best of super.
Also, as Super is going to have more episodes than GT, super has more probability to end up being better.

The Shadow Dragons was a cool concept but the One Star Dragon sucked. He is a generic doomsday villain, meaning he has no coherent motivation, goals, or personality; he is defined solely by the threat he poses.
One Star Dragon was supposed to be pure unadulterated manifestation of the negative energy collected on the balls. Li Shenlong was given form by the purest and most selfless wishes of them all, so he is the total opposite of that. He is evil for no reason just like you dont have a reason to be selfless, he cant be justified and shouldnt be justified.

i had issues with GT,but never quite got why a sector of the fandom was so negative about it. Sure the 1st part is very Star Trek-ian in its sci-fi procedimental narrative but you notice the growth of the characters and never stops being fun,later on with Baby you feel the stakes and when it gets to the big fights it´s personal and emotionally rewarding,plus the SS4 design is genius thematically,phisically and storywise

Dragon Ball Z was never a particularly well-written show, especially for the post-Freeza stuff where the show basically becomes an un-self-aware parody of itself later on. At least GT brought back some fun and enjoyment to the franchise and dealt with a villain who had proper motivations (Baby) and the heroes overuse of the Dragon Balls coming back to bite them in the ass (Shadow Dragons).

IMO: Nah, the Japanese OST is fucking stellar, Super Saiyan 4 itself is stunning, Baby is a great villain and I like how Goku was a mentor to Pan. Plus the ending is a tear jerker for long time fans
I'm a GT fan. I have a few complaints, though.
1) Pan was just too whiny. If she were a bit more tough, like her mom, dad, and Goku, it would be much better. But, for a tomboy, she is incredibly whiny.
2) All but one of the main villains had TERRIBLE execution. Super 17 didn't live up to his full potential, being taken out purely by Goku. The Shadow Dragons were an AMAZING concept, the reasons for which would take too long here, but should have each had different fights with the different Z-Fighters based on which wish(es) they were made from (ex: Piccolo fighting the wish to bring back everyone killed by Demon King Piccolo), as opposed to Goku (and Pan) hunting them all down one-by-one. Baby was the only one who's execution was done well, but it could've been done better.
3) No one got any attention besides Goku and Pan. Even the other Saiyans didn't matter much. They only ever mattered as villains in the Baby saga, but even then they barely even did anything. Vegeta was the only one who did anything of importance, but even then it was only because he was required for Gogeta to happen.
4) The first arc was literally pointless. They tried to recreate the first arc of the Dragon Ball, but failed miserably. Nothing happened, nothing was accomplished, no one really changed. You could take it out and nothing would be changed.
if GT is redone with Akira having some part in the story it would do better. also don't make Goku a kid or the only main character. GT had great tools that they didn't use example ssj adult gotenks,, making Vegeta ssj3, keeping the power of Ultimate Gohan, having Pan become a ssj, and having Trunks and Goten reach ssj2. then this can all be canon if they're alternate time lines. with DBZ being the main timeline then DBS and DBGT can be alternate timelines
Jordan Myers idk if that would work because toei animation mostly created gt. Toriyama had created some of the character designs, but in terms of the story that was for the most part toei's gig. I feel that if they paid more attention to detail and consistency, and yeah, gave other characters more screen time/relevance, and didn't focus so much early on the intention to harken back to the original DragonBall, I feel that gt would be FAR better received. there are other issues that I would change, but I really don't want to get too far into it. also, seeing how super is turning out, and it's almost entirely toriyama's project, (not that I dislike super) what difference would it make if toriyama made the story opposed to toei?

After super they could remake GT. Take the good ideas, adapt them to the new continuity and give them a better execution.
For example merge the Super 17 and Shadow Dragon arcs. Insted of Super 17 perhaps use Cell (say the "present" cell fetus survived the destruction of Gero's sublab). Then, isnted of roudnign up al lthe escaped villains offscreen have them atempt to use the Dragon Balls to send them back only to create the Shadow Dragons and have them use the villains as henchmen, enhancign them to the point where they are a threat again. And since there are so many different villains all over the place DONT MAKE GOKU DEAL WITH ALL OF THE DRAGONS.
Some of the cinematics for Dragon Ball Heroes seem to be goign with that idea.
The only reason that i watched GT was because i saw so many people hating on it and i wanted to check it out for myself.
I'll admit that when.goku was turned into a kid i almost stopped watching but i decided to stick with it and overall i ended up loving it. I legitmately love GT and I'll always defend it when people hate on it but i'd be lying if i said that GT didn't make any mistakes and did some things horribly

+The main enemies were awesome, I mean Baby. Tragic tuffle survivor. Super 17, while not entirely sure on his powers being so high he did have an interesting concept. Then the Shadow Dragons, they were awesome, maybe not appearence wise but it shows what happens when the Dragon Balls are misused as fortold by Old Kai.
-Goku being a child really got to me. You know he would have been more awesome as an adult.

To me GT can be cannon but in a different way. To me Their two options
Option 1 Dragon Ball, is the only definitive cannon but the timeline splits there. GT is a sequel to Z while Super is a sequel to Z Kai.
Option 2 During the Goku Black Arc in Super they introduced the time rings and each ring is a different reality. Who’s to say GT is not one of those realities?

Animation wise the art style always feel off to me. I really can’t put my finger on why. Maybe I don’t think this is what these characters would look like when they get older.
2 main things that annoyed me the most is GT was Kid Goku being the only relevant fighter, and..... PAN! She was what made GT nearly unwatchable.The score, plotholes, and progression of the story itself was bland as well. Though I did enjoy the parasite Baby, as well as SSJ4, Gogeta SSJ4, and the whole concept of the Shadow Dragons.

GT is far better than people say it is. Lots of cool ideas, good designs, and better plots than it gets credit for. The execution of said ideas and designs was the poorly conceived shit.
Interesting subject you two are talking about. I for my part have watched the entirety of the DB/DBZ/DBGT anime shows prior to reading the manga, so from the beginning I took DBGT being a part of the official DB cannon for granted. However, there was still a lot I disliked about DBGT, making me criticize it very early actually:
1.) Goku turning back to a kid. This argument has been used a lot and a counterargument often was that he was a kid in DB as well, and many of the people hating GT love DB. The thing is, the DB manga and DB/DBZ anime show was a unique concept since it, unlike other anime shows, didn't just show us several months or years of a character, but rather almost gave us an entire lifespan, starting with a 12 year old kid and finishing the series with a almost 50 year old grandpa. Goku grew with his audience and so did the entire series. Turning Goku back in GT threw that concept overboard, for reasons I cannot comprehend, to be honest. It should ad a comedic affect to the series, I guess, but in my opinion that concept failed terribly.
2.) Character design. I like what GT did with some characters in terms of appearance, such as Pan or Bra. However, other characters such as Vegeta or Krillin they destroyed completely. This may be the fault of Toriyama, but I still criticize this about the show. Those changes just seemed unnecessary.
3.) The focus was way too strong on Goku. I respect him being the main character but the entirety of DBGT was about Goku being significant and the rest of the team horribly insignificant (with Pan as raw exception then and when). This was just overdone and never in DB/DBZ was Goku so dominant compared to other fighters.
4.) Oob, who was revealed as the great student of Goku, who Goku will pass the torch to. In DBGT, however, he also was horribly insignificant. Now people can criticize the same thing about Gohan, since Goku also seemed to pass the torch to him. However, despite Toriyama deciding not to make Gohan as the main character, he wasn't a punching bag as Oob was. He still defeated Super Perfect Cell and with his Ultimate form he was presumably the third strongest character at the end of the Boo arc, behind Super Boo with Gohan/Gotenks and Vegito. So building up Oob, just to make him another character that can be beat to death prior to Goku showing up to save the day, wasn't very well written, in my opinion.
5.) I know many people like the Black Star Dragons, but in my opinion they just made no sense. It was stated that a Dragon is born with every wish that was granted, but how can it be that there were far more than seven wishes but only seven dragons? How is it that time dissolves the negative energy slowly, but the Dragon Balls first start to crack, after they haven't wished anything for 15 years? Where do they gain their power, despite Shenron being weaker than King Piccolo? I enjoyed the fights, but I had a really hard time believing the theory the show gave us.
6.) Plot holes. Now I know there are some in DB/DBZ too, but to be honest I never thought they were as bad or couldn't been explained logically. The only real inconsistency is, how Goku could bring the bunny members on the moon, although he cannot breath in space. But being aware of the fact that DB had an entire different concept in his first arc in comparison to the Freeza arc it's forgivable. In DBGT, however, just too many things didn't make any sense: why would Kami, despite him being a good guy with only a evil side within him, create a dragon who destroys the Earth after a wish has be granted? And why should he send them around space, although he wasn't aware of being an alien in the first place. And how did he even have the power, since we know that Piccolo can't create any Dragon Balls anymore? Besides, with Nail inside him he's not the same Namekian anymore he was when coming to Earth. This just didn't make any sense. Goku couldn't control SSJ3 because his body was too small for the affordable amount of energy. But Gotenks could, how does that work? Why can't Piccolo enter hell, even dough Toei themselves made Goku travel to hell several times? How could Shenron suddenly grant a wish more than once (bringing Krillin back for example)? How can Cooler be in the show, despite him being not part of the anime and cannot be classified in the timeline? How can a car accident almost kill Trunks of glass damage Goku, although bullets couldn't even hurt him in the first manga chapter?
One word to your point Hail Zeon: I understand why you criticize Toriyama for bringing those characters out of nowhere. However, I thought the introduction of Boo and Beerus made a lot more sense than the Cyborgs or the Shadow Dragons. Freeza was the most powerful being in the universe and Dr. Gero could just create cyborgs out of nothing being stronger, despite them being normal humans? I thought that was always hard to believe. Same by the shadow dragons, who surpass the power of Shenron by far, although he can't be more powerful than his creator and has been destroyed by King Piccolo in the past? Now I agree that Baby and Super 17 were explained decent enough to make sense, but having villains who are several millions of years old and just come from an ancient time makes it easier for me to buy than to create them out of nowhere, since a really good explanation must be given to the audience in the process.
DBGT isn't a horrible anime show, but it isn't very good as well. In my opinion it's vastly inferior to DB/DBZ and the criticism is well judged. I'd probably give it a 4/10, while DB/DBZ rank a about 9 or 10/10. I've seen worse, but I don't see any necessity in watching DBGT again (I watched it 3 times up to now), since I only seem to be able to enjoy it when I switch of my Dragon Ball brain and I don't really like that. Now Super has this problem partially too, but we're talking about DBGT now, so I'll judge it independent of Super.
I'd love to add several things here
focusing too much on goku and not letting uub take the torch sucked, we'll go with that
being turned back into a kid was cool, and goku's body was never as strong as goten or trunks (who were born AFTER several major power increases that made their former selves literally look like nothing, so going by that logic, goku's body wouldn't be able to handle nearly the same amount of power [if you put his gt power into the what do you think would happen])

ANIMANIA Well, as I said before, Super has some flaws I criticize about DBGT as well, but this video was about GT, so I guess it's accurate to focus solely on the DBGT flaws. Now I know some of the things I criticize here may be valid for other series I do enjoy as well. And if I think about it, DBZ had flaws I criticize as well, however, the series still kept me entertained, due to a lot of epic moments the series added. So, in my opinion, it's difficult to argue about liking or disliking something due to it's qualities, I think it's an overall expression which gives you a personal judgement about a series.

The concept of GT was superb at the end. Fighting the corrupted dragon balls, makes sense. Thats genius! And the regrowing of the Saiyin Tail was another great idea. Toei can definitely use those ideas for super. The concept was beautiful but The execution was done poorly. Omega Sheron was also a great idea.

GT had a few decent ideas like ssj4 (minus the magic clothing) and golden oozaru I especially think is cool, so much so that I would like to see it made canon officially in super. But in GT there are major plot points that make no sense, even more so then the plot inconsistencies in Z. But honestly the Baby saga especially is actually pretty good, the shadow dragon saga was also ok.

I also honestly really enjoyed how GT at least sort of tried to flush out the rest of the universe. Instead of shit just randomly happening on Earth and getting basically the same environment thrown at you and the same things at stake. They did a good job showing off the planets and making the show more diverse in a way, and feel like a show where saying you're a universal or planetary threat means something because you get a taste of the rest of the universe. Like, for the first off-Earth adventure, Planet Namek was very bland and everywhere just felt the same and very barren, while the other places in GT feel like actual other worldly places that could very well exist in the universe.
I loved GT.
I actually enjoyed Gt a lot. It's not as good as Z, obviously. However, to have another decent adventure in the dragon ball mythos (even if its not cannon) was cool. It has flaws but overall had a lot of cool moments and was fun to watch.
DBGT: Cool concepts, lackluster execution, not enough of anyone else but Goku until near its end, SSJ4 is interesting but convoluted, SSJ4 Gogeta is a Beast. Also, BIG-BANG KAMEHAMEHA!!!!!~_~
I love this video. GT was as good and as bad as Z. One of the things that I did like is that, unlike Z, GT tried to expand the world and show that there were consequences to the actions of the protagonists. I really wish Super kept the idea of overusing the dragonballs - the canon Dragonball universe has no consequences whatsoever, and that makes it hard to care about anything.

The only thing that I can agree on the criticism of GT is that Goku is used too much. It's like 50% of Goku doing work in GT. They had other characters to use like Majuub and others, but they weren't that much of help. Overall I think GT is a good series with amazing ideas but weren't used at their fullest. If Toei & Funimation ever decide to reboot the series, I hoped that they listened to the fan's opinions about some of the problems with GT.

I rewatching GT now I think my biggest thing as a teen and now that I didn’t like was the U.S. sound track. I watched it Japanese original I love the soundtrack still do. So the DVD set you can watch dub with the Japanese music. I also feel GT is a love letter to the original Dragon Ball. DB Super is a love letter to Dragon Ball Z.

I just realized from listening to this discussion how GT is a parallel to Z, in terms of villains.
Baby and Freeza: Both started off as small, rather frail looking villains. They both have equal amount of transformations/mutations, they both have some sort of devastating past with the Saiyajins, AND they both are the result of a new power busting Super Saiyajin form coming to life.
Super 17 and Cell: Both are creations of science influenced by Gero, both had somewhat similar roles to obtaining a perfect form, and both have the tables turned on them because of Cyborg 18 (even though Cell came back thanks to plot)
Syn Shenron and Buu: Both are super-ancient beings that were brought onto Earth thanks to negative energy, both could have been killed by a Fusion-based character had not all of them (all 3 I should point out) goofed off, and both perished from the Spirit Bomb, though technically did not die (Buu lives on in Fat Buu and Uub, where as the Shadow Dragons will just come back as soon as enough bad wishes are made again)
And it's even more ironic that they are in perfect order.

The biggest issue i had with GT is that they tried too hard to recapture the feeling of the original dragonball series, when Goku was still a kid. It makes no sense for the pilaf gang to wish Goku young again and it didnt add anything to story. They could have wished for something which makes more sense and still have the premise of the Blackstar Dragonballs being a threat going. It simply felt like a cheap copout to nerf Goku, so they wont have to be creative to create new threatening villains. But Then again they made Goku OP anyway. It also certainly didnt help that they made everyone else almost irrelevant. I liked the concept of most arcs and villains in GT and especially the ssj4 transformation is pretty awesome imo, so its a shame that they didnt execute it that well. The non canon thing doesnt bother me. I'm a huge fan of some DBZ movies which arent canon either, especially fusion reborn. People should give the series more credit, it certainly gets more sht on than it deserves.

And not only that but the plot is much more complex than what happened in GT with time travel, time paradoxes, different forms of god's, Bringing back old Dragon Ball themes like the Mafuba and the Galic Gun. Goku even brought back the fucking Kio Ken and mixed it with his god form... hands down the best transformation in DB history.
GT has few plot Holes... let me list every single last one of them.
1) The shadow dragon arc should not have happen... the dragonball's were created by Dende and were designed to recharge after a year... but for some reason the turn corrupt and become dragon's... I call BS.
2) The baby arc is fucking retarded for the fact that the Tuffles had absolutely no special powers and if Baby was that strong to begin with then how did they get wiped out but fucking Raditz level saiyans.
3) The Arc where Goku and Trunks traveled the galaxy is retarded just in general and it was uninspired as hell. It had no main villain and just featured Goku and friends doing community service for other planets.
4) The Shadow dragons were shit and no one can take them seriously except for Omega, Ice, and Nova.
5) Super 17 was probably the best villain in GT and he was only mediocre at best and Uub was the only good hero introduced.
6) they fucking killed Piccolo... and he went to hell which was retarded.
And now you want to talk about power scaling?
OK
1) why couldn't baby one shot a planet.
2) were the Z fighters impressed when Omega destroyed a City.
3) Why was Gohan struggling in his fight against Goten.
4)Why is Goten going Ssj 1 even though his mystic form was much stronger.
5) how was it that Goku at base was only able to keep up with Uub who was Buu level at best but could beat Gohan who was much stronger than that.
6) Why is that Vegeta never went Super Saiyan 3 and right to 4 even... and that alone is supid because Vegeta was already able to create his own Flux waves.
Now you want to take about Super.
1) literally no plot hole fool... for every topic they brought up they referenced DBZ
2)Beerus Whis and the other gods were the most original idea in all of Dagonball and opened up new possibilities.
3) they brought back Frieza THE GREATEST VILLIAN IN DRAGONBALL an gave him a new form.
4) The 12 universes expanded the Dragonball universe and opened up new possibilities.
5) There is an evil Goku and Idea thought of ever since the beginning of Dragonball and it was done to perfection with and actual sense of Urgency.

7) They brought back Trunks.
8) The universe 6 arc opened new possibilities with planet salad and Zeno the Omni king.
9) there are still over 20 characters who have yet to be introduced.
Now please tell me any plot holes Super left open.

3. Lol you want to talk about plot... Slavery, and the destruction of the Earth is the only thing Gt is about... Super introduced a time paradox, polotics of the universe, a god hierarchy, and the old tournament aspect of Dragonball.

- we had a universal tournament
- we FINAL achieved the concept of an evil Goku

Honestly, I actually think GT deserves to have a second chance. I thought it was cool of the concept of the adventures of a kid Goku, finding the Dragon Balls, and the return of the tails. Also, Super Saiyan 4 is awesome in my opinion. Just because something's not cannon doesn't mean it should be hated, like Broly. Broly's actually non-canonon, and he's a bit of a liked character. On the topic of villians, Baby was an amazing concept as a parasitic baddie who takes control of a hero. Hardly EVER has a hero turned bad. The tails are also epic. The tails pretty much vanished after Vegeta's got cut off, and it would be amazing for a cannon comeback. That would be intriguing seeingh how characters would interact, the comeback of the Oozaru, possibly SSJ4 made cannon, and they would be stronger. I actually did watch GT when it was airing (years after they were made) and I liked it. The graphics, even though I have to admit they were bad, it was kinda nostalgic going back to a retro feel. I even LIKED Pan to be honest. I didn't find her annoying.. not NEARLY as much as the Parapara brothers. The Dragon Balls were also interesting, having them scattered across the universe. And with great power comes with a catch; The planet would be destroyed in one year. So guys, please give GT a second shot.
I didnt think GT was THAT bad, especially if you watch it in Japanese. I can see why people who only saw GT dubbed would despise it, the soundtrack was awful in English. Dan Dan Kokoro Hikareteku (the original opening) is arguably one of my favorite openings in the series. While GT is definitely my least favorite series so far, I did like some moments. I liked how they handled Goku turing SSJ4 in the original version and I really enjoyed some of the fights. Would I watch it more than once or twice? Probably not. I don't hate GT, but there was wasted potential there. Good video!

I watched years ago GT before I knew it wasn't created by akira toriyama, and while I watched it, I was definitively entertained. After getting deeper into the dragonball lore and re-watching it 10 years later, I noticed some inconsistencies, but it didn't diminish the fact that I enjoyed the series while I was watching it.
Sure, its not quite the same, but it was time well spent.
Some people makes GT look bad without saying the full context like goku broken after a fight but what is the point they focused on its the glass moment and the lifting tower thing they underestimated GT goku so bad and I don't know why people hate a 10 years old girl for going to a space adventure and because she is not a super saiyan like haters of GT are bad having their opinions but people who force you to dislike something is bad because their is a fan forced me to dislike GT
The thing I really liked about kid Goku's character was that he seems a lot more sharp in his fights. He looks alot more like a skilled and experienced fighter then he ever did in z. When he fights you can tell he has a history of battles with strong foes when in z they just make everyone powerhouses.

I remember buying the complete series of GT last year and watched everything. It's not on the same page as DB and DBZ (Since it isn't directly from toriyama) but it does have its good moments that I enjoy. I feel that a lot of folks should jump off the 'gt sucks bandwagon' and at least watch it over with an open mind. It's not perfect but all I can say is that it has it's good moments.

I definitely agree GT had some excellent concepts but poor execution. I never felt fond of GT the way I did with Dragonball & DBZ, but I also never thought it was nearly as bad as most people claim it is.
I've watched it more then 3 times through and been defending it since it came out, once you get past the "lost episodes" it's not bad nor great. I believe replacing annoying pan for pick any saiyan on earth and it had much more potential. Great discussion geekdom as always!

GT had a beautiful soundtrack. Also I think GT was decent. I liked Pan and Goku's relationship but it focused to much on them. Baby was a legit villain. Super 17 was ehhh. Shadow Dragons could've been great. It had promise but I don't really want to watch it again. But if you never have seen it you should give it a chance because you might like it!

What they should have done to make GT better?
1: Don't make Goku a kid, leave him as a adult.
2: Give Pan super Ex Deus Machina Hidden power like Gohan had, make her into a badass AKA: Mythic Pan > SSJ4 Goku.
3: Make Trunks more like Future Trunks in term of personality and give him SSJ2 and later SSJ3.
4: Give Vegeta SSJ3 right away from the beginning and later SSJ4 in a (legit) way.
5: Keep Gohan Mystic power and don't make him into a pansy.
6: Make Majuub not a failure that lose his fight battle.
7: Make SSJ4 Goku and later villains so strong that they must fight in space since they would destroy Earth with a misplaced punch.
8: Make Gogeta more serious and badass like he was in the movie.
9: Make Goten a fighter and not the wuss we got.
10: Remove every single retarded looking villains and renplace them with (Decent looking one)
In short... DBGT would be a good anime if it wasn't related to DBZ... Aka:> remove all the DBZ character and add random character in their place with a story not related to DBZ, but keep everything else, change the Kamehameha name and so on.
People would definitely call it a DBZ ripoff, but it would still be good or at least decent in people mind, the anime would obviously not have all the hate it has right now...

The problem with GT's villains is that they don't make any sense. You say Toriyama's later villains came out of nowhere, and that might be true, but at least their power was justified by their importance. Majin Buu was an universe-threatening monster who had killed gods and was feared by them. And then GT goes and introduces a guy like Rilldo, saying he's stronger than Majin Buu. That just doesn't make any sense. Vegeta at 18,000 was enough to solo difficult planets, how did a planet with guys powerful like Rilldo just fly past everyone's radar? That just makes no sense and you know it.
And the shadow dragons are the greatest offenders of all. Shenron was the smallest, weakest dragon and Earth's Dragonballs were the smallest out of all of them. Shenron was literally killed by King Piccolo whose power was a measly 250. How can something like making several wishes with these balls create negative energy dragons powerful enough to give pause to a SSj4 Goku (whose base power is greater than his SSj3 power was at the end of Z)??? The Shadow Dragon saga could MAYBE have worked if it happened right after Vegeta's first defeat on Earth, with Omega Shenron being barely stronger than him. Likewise, I don't see guys such as Rilldo any higher than Zarbon level for them to make sense. Freeza was said to be the most powerful being in the universe for fuck's sake! And don't even get me started on Super 17, what a fucking disgrace.
That's precisely why we don't really visit other planets much anymore in Super. There simply wouldn't logically be any challenge there. The stakes are now much higher. The new villains' extreme strength is justified in that they're the top beings in existence - and honestly that's the only logical direction to go from the end of Z. If anything, Super does that right.
How about the fact that it took a ritual in order to turn Goku into a Super Saiyan -God and Trunks who isn't even a Super Saiyan 3 received ridiculous power boosts out of nowhere and was able to keep up with SSJR Goku Black and eventually destroy Fusion Zamasu?How is this justified?

I think GT's biggest flaw was leaving out of the action most of the main characters who were getting too old, and not putting forward really exciting new young characters. It would have been possible. The Zs have plenty of grown up children: Trunks, Goten, Bra, Pan, Marron... but none of them really becomes a significant fighter like Goku, Gohan or Vegeta were. So all the fans are left to "feed on" are aging Vegeta (with a moustache....) and Goku turned back into a kid. The only excitement is when they turn into SSJ4. Baby and Super Android 17 were the most interesting villains in GT, but again, the fights involded pretty much only Vegeta and Goku, with a little participation from a few supportive characters. But that's it. They could have done better.
What is the problem with pan there is no problem she hasn't experienced what gohan and goku and the others experienced that's why she wants to go because she is really powerful like she kicked metal rildo neck when he was locked into her like damn super saiyan goku couldn't handle metal rildo and pan flexed on her grandpa like damn
One thing I want to point out about Hail Zeon's problems with villains like Majin Buu & Beerus because they've "always existed". To tell you the truth that's actually kind of the point because that relates to one of the big major lessons that Goku learned as a kid: "No matter how strong you are there will always be someone out there who's stronger." That's what Dragonball has always been about: Always keep on pushing yourself past your limits because no matter how far you go there's always gonna be more and more challenges out there. This is a lesson that Goku learned from both Mr. Popo and Master Roshi (which is also one the reasons why Roshi disguised himself as Jackie Chun to prevent Goku & Krillin from winning the 21st Tenkaichi Budokai). Even the ending of Battle of Gods reveals this when Beerus tells Goku that there are 12 universes.
The issues with GT aren't about the villains as much as they're about the main characters. Goku being a kid again for the WHOLE SERIES was just silly. Regrowing his tail from making coffee with a pair of pliers, come on now... Then Super Sayajin 4 miraculously making him full size again (so he can conveniently fuse with Vegeta) and covered in pink gorilla body hair with longer black hair (though Vegeta said their hair NEVER CHANGES FROM BIRTH) instead of just being a different iteration of blonde with blue eyes like every single other Super Saiyajin version really jumped the shark. The villains were pretty creative. They didn't have just some stronger guy miraculously show up like Z and Super did. They had the robots, Baby, and dark dragons all manifest after the fact. But the heroes being so painful to watch was my biggest issue

To Vegeta growing his tail back... temporarily. It's like all logic went out the window for SSJ4

But Goku magically becomes an adult when he goes SSJ4 and then back to a little kid when he transforms back. There is ZERO logical explanation for any of that. SSJ4 could have been so much better. About the only thing I liked about it was that they had to become golden Oozaru and control that form before ascending to SSJ4

Coming up with an ancient set of dangerous dragon balls that have been on the lookout all along, through so many battles and total destruction (and God knows what Popo did to it off camera). These stupid black star dragon balls get scattered across the universe despite all being gathered on the lookout and the only ship being Kami's, yet somehow they were all gathered within a year. And somehow they show up on the radar for GT but they went completely through DB & DBZ without even a tiny blip. Then then when Goku and pals had to re-gather them, knowing the gravity of the situation, Goku goes with Pan and Trunks. Though Vegeta would obviously be a clear suggestion for the crew over Pan. Over Goku really. Instead of their goofing off, he would have stayed disciplined and got it done quickly. Even smarter would be to send multiple crews. I never understood why there was only the one singular radar too (but that's a more vague issue). Sorry for the long post but I wanted to put everything that nagged at me about just the dragon balls in this post

Hey Geekdom, you know what would have helped give the Black Star balls some meaning in the series for existing?
what if Kami originally made the black star balls as a means to absorb and store the negative energy the original dragonballs would generate so as to avoid them from cracking? and because Piccolo died the black star dragonballs were turned to stone and could no longer store the negative energy which forced all the energy they had to revert back into the balls, but because the gates to hell opened up and the amount that was stored was too much to begin with, these two things could have caused the evil dragons to emerge.
but that's pretty much my own head canon:
After Kami ascended to god status on earth, he wanted to create the dragonballs to be a symbol of hope to the people, but despite the mortals only supposedly being able to find the balls every hundred or so years, Kami made a fail safe to help keep the negative energy in check and that was the black star dragonballs, which would absorb any negative energy the regular dragonballs create and would act as their own source of power, hence why the negative energy would envelop the earth after every wish and blow it up,were to be stored in the lookout and never to be used.
