    I am a bujo-er and i was missing a week-at-a-glance, purely for my apointments. So i use the last 52 pages of my bujo as an apointment-planner for the whole year. Love it! Best of both worlds...

    Thanks for sharing an update. Its always great to get an insight into how others use their bullet journals to their best advantage and the thought processes you go through to work out what works for you and what doesn't. Love the simplified look of your bujo pages.

      Thanks, Julie. :) My bujo is very deliberately simple - I get too overwhelmed with it otherwise! :D

    I know exactly what you mean! Dated daily spreads don't often work very well unless you commit to journal everyday. And that's exactly why I refrain from buying hobonichi cousin although I really like its weekly layout. Thank you so much for sharing your journey and comparison on Hobo & bullet journal!

      Yeah, I've always struggled with dated layouts! I thought maybe I was ready for them, but nope!! :D

      Plannergirl 777 ohh if you like a vertical weekly layout like in the cousin, and want the tomoe river paper, check out the jibun techo!! i find it super functional and its set up is very very detailed

      I use the daily pages for notes & the weekly for my daily if that makes sense. Then I can use the year overview pages as an index to my notes.

      Just want to clear up, Kokuyo use their own Mio paper for Jibun Techo. And anyone who want hardcover notebook with Tomoe, can opted for Endless notebook.

    I can so relate. I left my bullet journal for the hourly happy planner because of needing the same vertical weekly layout. I even bought extra note pages, but then grew frustrated because I couldn't find anything plus it just started to look really cluttered since I couldn't fit anything in the hourly boxes. So I created a similar spread in a brand new book to what you have here and I'm so in love! I also felt bad bc I spent all this money, but in the end it was all worth it since me and my anxious mind have found peace.

    I use a chaotic Travelers Notebook but I like watching how beautifully organized you are. I'm so happy that you're doing well. I'm getting close to a year myself and becoming more active again which is great so I want to keep it paced and organized. You are definitely an inspiration, thank you for sharing. 😘

    • @veronicajude
      @veronicajude 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ok, being more active is great but so many times today my thoughts went back to this video and I know that the appointment app on my phone isn't going to cut it. I love journals and planners but bullet journaling has always intimidated me and I don't know why. I'll start with a new insert in my traveler's notebook but now I have to learn buju basics. Thanks again for this timely video! 😘😘😘

      TNs are so lovely, I love the feel of them, I don't quite know what it is about the L1917 that I like so much - I think it's just that it lays flat on the table! So simple! Haha! I would definitely recommend taking it slow with BuJo. Start with the absolute basics and add things you need as you go along, rather than starting with all the bells and whistles, getting overwhelmed, and trying to cut bits out. At least I found it a lot less intimidating that way!

    @ultravioletpisces3666 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Katie, you can always paint over your unused planner and glue pages onto it to make a small bos, or even a tarot book of some kind, to defray the "waste" of getting a book you didn't use.

    Wonderful video, Katey - loved and am inspired by your gorgeous bujo... Sadly, the reality for me is that I completely hate my own handwriting (scrawly, loopy, cat scratches!) -- I'm messy and impatient, and tend to make a hash of things... which I guess is why I went digital a long while ago ... but I still crave the physicality of journals... Thanks so much for sharing! xoxo

    • @KateyFlowers
      @KateyFlowers  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Digital is a great option... not sure why it doesn't work for me... I think it still doesn't feel tangible, so I still worry about forgetting or losing things. I dunno, different strokes for different folks, eh? :D x

    Hi Katey ❤️ I have very severe anxiety and some of it I think stems from my disorganization... do you know any ways to get started that aren't overwhelming?

    • @LittleBlueDuchess
      @LittleBlueDuchess 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hi Kate, I have anxiety too. When I'm at my most stressed, I use Pacifica (free app for mood tracking), Habitica (free productivity app/website that is simple and positive) and reminders on my iCloud calendar. Habitica is the website that I keep going back to, because it really helps me stay on track and take care of myself every day. They have a great anxiety and depression group community too.

    • @KateyFlowers
      @KateyFlowers  7 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Kate Cassidy hey Kate! I tried lots of different systems, but I found bullet journaling best for my anxiety. My only main suggestion is to keep it really simple when starting. It's easy to go overboard and that just becomes overwhelming. I did that a few times and gave up very quickly! But then I decided to strip it all back and use the original bullet journal system as outlined by Ryder Carrol. Then, as I continued, I would add or amend small things, but only gradually and still avoiding too much decoration or charts. Another reason I like bullet journaling is the fact that if I forget a few days, or have a few days in bed, I haven't 'wasted' any dated pages. I can go weeks without using it and then just pick up where I left off when I'm up and about again.
      That's what worked for me, but we're all so different. If paper planning isn't your thing, there are some great suggestions for apps. I found apps more confusing and stressful than anything, but as I said, we're all so different!
      Not sure if that helped at all. Feel free to ask any other questions! ❤️

      I have anxiety too. I started with a simple mood tracker and now I have a page with 30 simple flowers (one for each day of the month) that I colour in based on my mood. I find when I track my mood this way I am more mindful of my mood and therefore less anxious or stressed (and less irritable too).

    Thank you for sharing your thoughts on the Hobonichi vs Bullet Journal. I was actually considering the Hobonichi but after seeing your video. I think I will just stick to the Bullet Journal system. It's really being a beneficial planning system for me since I started doing it last August.

    Great video Katey. I am thinking of moving into a Hobonichi for next year because I have always loved weekly spreads. I was doing 3 monthly weekly spreads in my bullet journal but I got sick of it and I needed at least 6 months ahead for work. Not sure what to do.

    • @KateyFlowers

  • @LittleBlueDuchess
    @LittleBlueDuchess 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Wow, I'm absolutely amazed by how organized you are and how pretty your bullet journal is! Bullet journaling would be so overwhelming for me personally, it looks like a lot of work to set it up and remember to use it every day. I tried using a paper planner this year (the Desire Map planner) but it only worked for a short while. I don't work or go to school, so I had trouble remembering to open it up and check it. For my low-key lifestyle, I just use my iCloud calendar, Reminders and Habitica.

    • @KateyFlowers
      @KateyFlowers  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Cierra Grove it's really not a lot of work - each day I draw a line across the page and that little flag with the date. That's it! But I enjoy paper planning. Apps and stuff don't work well for me - it's doesn't feel tangible enough. But we're all different! It sounds like you've got a system that works for you, which is awesome! I have Habitica but I always forget to open it and use it! 😅

    • @LittleBlueDuchess
      @LittleBlueDuchess 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Katey Flowers I hope I didn't come across like I was shitting on paper planning. :) I tend to ramble and get off topic and then not even notice it, haha. I love paper for journals and for books, so I was surprised when it didn't work for planning my schedule. We are all so different and it's awesome. Anyway, I'm glad your BuJo works so well for you and that you were able to learn some things from the Hobonichi.

      The Lazy Genius has a blog about bullet journaling that helped me see that it doesn't have to be super involved. Also if you look up how it was originally designed, it's fairly simple and not arty *at all*... Mostly on TH-cam you see a certain style but u get to make it your own, and that's what makes it good.
      I've done one on the past and I'm planning to do another one soon.

    I had fun listening to this. While I'm more or less Hobo-fiend, I love watching BuJo setups and just getting ideas for collections. As a novice writer, I use the daily pages of my Hobo for just drafting ideas. (I have Weeks Mega and Cousin. I guess Weeks would have been the one you need, but in A5 size ? ) I have trouble using a BuJo, because of the 'blank page' fear that I still have even after years of digital and handwriting. :D That's my basic reasoning to using a planner, instead of a bujo - which I use more for memory keeping.

    Hi, I’ve just stumbled across your video by accident. I feel like I’m living your life a year later. I too am a bullet journalist too and have considered switching to a hobonichi next year as I am in the midst of completing my master and creating layouts is starting to impede on my time. I thought the pre-printed layouts would assist me next year but I’m a bit hesitant as to how it will translate in the hobonichi. I’m a little worried that there aren’t enough spare pages at the back of the hobonichi for collections and challenges like you would in the Leuchtturm. Loved listening experience with the Cousin Avec 😊
    Hope I’m right in saying that I detect an Aussie accent. I’m from Kangaland too (Sydney to be precise).

    Yay for tweaking your BuJo so it makes you even happier!
    I keep trying BuJos but they just never work for me, I dunno what it is about them, they seem like a great idea! Having said that, I've fallen out of love with my planner now too! I was always one of those people who preferred a paper planner/diary, and then over the past 6 months or so I've gone totally digital and that seems to be working for me. Bit upsetting though, cos my Kikki K is beautiful!
    Your writing is beautiful btw, so jealous!

    • @KateyFlowers
      @KateyFlowers  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      MrsTeePotTV I think it's natural that we change over time and, as such, our planning needs change, too! Kikki K planners are lovely - I have a couple -
      But I find them so cumbersome! No way I'd be able to throw one in my bag as I head out the door. I use them for storage and notes and things now. Interesting you've found yourself moving from paper to digital planning!

    I had the weekly hobonichi and a bullet journal this year. For next year I bought the weekly hobonichi mega, it has three times the amount of blank pages that the normal weekly has, so I don't need the bullet journal anymore. I hated using too many notebooks at the same time.

    Good to hear the comparison. Thank you. Though, if I spent that much time making my journal look neat and pretty, I'd be so distracted I'd never actually use the planner/journal. I'm looking for something I can sustain. Yeah, I'm a guy so not into the pretty stuff.

    Have you considered the Hobonichi Weekly Calendar? Not to be confused with Hobonichi Techo Weeks that has horisontal weekly spread. The Weekly Calender is a supplement to the A6 Hobonichi Techo Planner / Original. The booklet is thin, also uses Tomoe River paper, lays completely flat. It is slightly smaller size than the planner book (A6), so you do not get all the space per day as you have in the cousin, but your style is pretty minimalistic. It could be a good supplement to your bullet journal.

    • @KateyFlowers
      @KateyFlowers  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Isabelle Tysseng Yeah, I did think about that, but I don't like the idea of having more than one book ATM. I'd rather everything in one place - that is the beauty of the bullet journal! 😊
