He doesn't have the best NBA statistics of all time. He is not the best scorer of all time. He is the most overrated sports star in the history of mankind. Medical personnel play a larger role in whether players play, and teams are more interested in maximizing careers. Players in previous eras PRETEND they didn't want to sit out, but the fact is they had no choice; and it is easy to convince oneself that you don't want something that you don't have. I don't understand, it seems that former players would be happy to see improvements in safety and health. But instead all they do is regurgitate the same ol' "back in my day" BS. All sports have placed a heavier reliance on skills. Football isn't what football was in previous eras, neither is hockey, baseball or boxing; but the only people that harp on it 24/7 is the NBA and the league never was physical on the level of football, hockey, boxing etc.
Your comments sound like someone who is probably less than 35 years old. From a 'back in the day' NBA player's perspective, today's NBA is a huge oxymoron. Players make much more money, but actually play less games (and want the regular season shortened, lol). Also, with improved medical resources, relaxed rules and other current amenities, players SHOULD be able to play more games.

Defense rules are different. Back then, arm bars and hand checking was allowed. Today, you can't touch the other guy.

Adrian Dantley was only about 6'5" but he was a scoring machine. For somebody of his size, he could sure score in the paint.
