    Hi Alan. It's a very pleasant surprise to see you back posting a video. Your name has cropped up a few times on other videos/livestreams where people either wonder where you are or lament the fact you're not posting videos ... A beautiful collection of 45s!! I was already salivating at the promo of 'Time Of The Season' ... You struck gold with all of these!

    • @statictraveller

      Hi Carl. I really appreciate knowing that. Thank you. Yes, these were a real one-off find. 'Time Of The Season' is cut so loudly that it leaps from the speakers. Fabulous! These days, I get much more excited coming across a box of old singles than LPs. You just never know what you're going to find...

    Killer 45s!! Great finds. I have a selection of demos and promos within my British 45s collection....a lot of them are late 60s/early 70s chart wannabe things that don't turn up on stock copies. I have some 50s jazz demos e.g. Johnny Dankworth. Demos and promos are so appealing. Nice to see the psych stuff. Cheers.

      Hi, thanks. Yes, these are great. I love the obscure stuff. I fantasize about finding rare original 45s of the era, so to find these was very exciting. It's the first time in years I have come across such a nice bunch of singles in a charity shop. And like you say, the demos and promos are definitely most appealing. Cheers. Alan

      It was great finding these. Those that are known are the sort of tracks that might end up on 60s pop psych comps and their like. Most bands back in the day didn't get an album release until they had success with singles. It was a real honour back then. But being on a retro comp 50 years after the fact probably doesn't carry the same caché...

    • @robison5396

    Wonderful video, Alan. So glad you’ve bounced back in so quickly and with so much energy. I’ve sampled what I was able to find online and while a few of the tunes sounded quite ordinary to me (apologies to Milton, among others - I really tried!), there were some real gems in there like the James Galt and Tiny Lewis. Fingers crossed I’ll be able to find these. The Tapestry’s Carnaby Street was the first one that clicked with me. I then looked up archival footage of 1967 Carnaby Street and my goodness - it looked so cool! The Beatles were still together and “A Whiter Shade of Pale” was playing everywhere. How I love the antiquity, the eloquence of the language, the friendly, slightly sarcastic people, the “hi-fi fashion” - as they call it in the video. Thanks also for the reminder that I should get a copy of that Zombies LP - a good record that might have been great with a little more pruning and a little less Mellotron/Moody Blues-style production. “Time of the Season” is not even the best cut there. It might have been if P&D appeared on it, no? Where are they btw? I’m hearing Planty shouting now from across the room: “Come give us hell again!” Haha. Gentlest hug to you all.

    • @statictraveller
      @statictraveller  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you, Riccarda. One or two of these have really grown on me, others I loved immediately. As a lover of a good lyric, some won me with their words. The sound of 7 inch singles from the era far surpasses LPs and streaming and pack a real punch. The Zombies single is cut so loudly that the organ is almost distorting. It's the best I have ever heard it. (Audiophiles don't know what they're missing). The B side should have been on the LP.
      The Swinging London scene in 1967 and 68 was the epitome of hip and cool. Like all these things, it came and went very quickly, as one scene morphs into another. In most of the rest of the country, people were just getting on with their daily lives.
      P & D are taking a well earned play break. Like me, they are not sure there is much more that can be said about the VC. They do wish Planty well, though. They talk of her often and imagine taking it in turns to give her a good watering, as only boys can...

    I love the more obscure 45s like this. But I don't see a lot of obscure 45s in the charity shops here, it's usually the same junk, and I do check them out every time I'm there as I have found an occasional 45 that is interesting just sitting there inconspicuously. Great stuff and love the passionate reviews. And yes, I went all the way to the bitter end.

    • @statictraveller

    Hi Alan, I gave thes all a listen, you always surprise us with some great tracks - and most are promos. You must live near Mr Ben and pop into another parrallel universe through a secret doorway where all the charity shops have the most amazing records. I really liked the Tiny Lewis record and the I Want Candy cover, thanks. Only time I have had luck with promos is a John's Children promo of Just What You Want.. found at a carboot sale ages ago but had to pay up for it. The guy also had a Creation promo but wouldn't part with it.

    Alan, yesterday I listened to some singles by Pickettywitch, the singer, Polly Brown sent me for a loop, what a beautiful voice! I don't know Barbara Ruskin, but I do know Barbara Gaskin. Dave Stewart and Gaskin's version of ''It's My Party'' from the early 1980's, is loads of fun! Your enthusiasm is palpable, as per usual. Who can deny the power of '' I Want Candy'', it finds it's home in ''our'' reptilian brain stem! God bless 10cc, and all who sail with them!
