1. I've read comments below other videos that indicate horns aren't used in the real world NY Penn Station and the approaching tunnels because the sound is too loud echoing off the hard ceiling and walls. There are probably similar issues in Grand Central which isn't available in TSW (might be available as part of a Train Simulator 2019 DLC). 2. The dark vertical panel to the right of center offers in cab signaling including a digital speed restriction indicator. That system can be turned on in TSW but the scenarios don't require its use and the associated added complication to driving the locomotive. Look in the manual for instructions using that panel.
hey jeff the pantograph is used for powering the loco. you cant put it down well the train is moveing. if you put it down the train will not have power to move.
I find the guys doing these reviews are the genuine ones, the ones on the discord and forums are the most ill mannered people i've ever encountered. Its videos like this that project a positive look on what the community is supposed to be like in this genre of gaming. Some just don't know when to unplug and relax.
My experience with Amtrak ops at Union Station in Chicago, Intermodal Station in Milwaukee, and Union Station in Washington DC, is that the will not blast the horn twice upon departure, nor once after stopping. There are other stations where I have seen them do this, but they were all uncovered, outdoor stations. Joliet, IL (On the way out of Chicago) or the Wisconsin Dells are examples of where they will use the horn and bell.
Oh boy and we thought the freight train was slow! Haha. I have to admit I wasn't surprised by the actual train wash, only because of your thumbnail ;) otherwise I would have for sure. I am VERY excited for the new DLC! Thanks for keeping this series alive!!
I live in San Jose CA so watching the Peninsula Corridor is like home for me. I have the original TS Peninsula Corridor so this one should be really fantastic. Going to get the TSW Peninsula Corridor myself as well.
The pantograph is what supplies electrical power to the locomotive. They have to be up or else the locomotive will not move. Still love the videos Jeff! Especially your new CalTrain videos!
Great video Jeff. I have never seen an Amtrak move that slowly before. The one that goes by my house out in rural Cali regularly travels at 100 to 120 mph. I have clocked it on my bike a few times. Lol
You don’t use the horn in the station, or pretty much any time you start an Amtrak train on the corridor, just the bell. Yellow over red- approach, Max 30 mph, prepared to stop next signal. Yard speed- 15 mph or less depending on the track Train wash speed- 3 mph (or slower). Old DC yardmaster would make you back up and rewash the train if he saw soap suds on it still while exiting the wash there.
i haven't ridden that route yet cause i don't live in New York plus those tickets r probably expensive i'll have to hop on 2 trains to get there the sunset limited to New Orleans then take the crescent to New York which is an overnight train since it will take me 47 to 48hours to get to New York
Hey jeff, so my father is a retired 🚆engineer for mbta/mbcr and with the pantograph you only will have 1 up at a time for where you need the power supply. On the train washes, every railroad has at least three washes.
@@jfavignano It's an electric train, therefore it needs power to run it. If the pantograph is down, it makes no connection to the power lines above it. The sim may not allow you to put them down as it will cut the power. Also, the sim does not accurately depict the electric cables above it, as you would usually see the pantograph undulating with the cables in real life.
@@jfavignano Yeah. That's the sim forgetting the cables are actually needed. They would generally be everywhere the train would need to go to supply constant power.
@@MythicalLeader I thought the same, was weird. I figured they were using battery or something to get into the yard without it. I don't spend much time around electric trains where I am from. The Amtrak trains I have been on did not need it.
The pantrograph is what is supplying power to the train. If the game would have let you put both down your train would have lost all power and stopped. These trains aren't running off of the "3rd rail".
A few things that I was taught about the bell on a locomotive is that it must continue to ring for six seconds after the engine is passed the end of a station platform or after giving a signal forward or reverse that is not around a station the bell must continue for a minimum of six seconds or until the head end clears another train or a work zone.
Speed increases are only once the entire train has passed the speed board. Reduced speed must be met once passing with the lead of the train. Dynamic brake is the most common way to reduce speed over time. Watch under the "next signal" for your next speed (decrease at the yd measurement and increase once the entire train has passed the speed board). - Railway worker
I never knew that trains were even washed. If anything it was a hand wash of the locomotive, every Amtrak train I've seen has been super dirty as if it has never seen a wash since put in service!
The yard speed limit is 5mph that’s why they don’t want u go any faster than.... and the rear pantograph is always up because if the front pantograph was up and it was to hit a bird, the broken parts will damage the rear pantograph.... no pantograph means no power and the train won’t move, and the pantograph is connected to the overhead wires ( catenary )
Hey Jeff, ever heard of the Steam Engine Pere Marquette 1225 in Owasso, Mi... Where I'm from! One of its first hauls was granted to it by CSX. If you like Steamers, I highly recommend reading up on it! Loving the content of any video you make, keep it up Jeff!
And @JeffFavignano, I live next to a CSX Line and those trains are always dirty and we live close to downtown where Amtrak drops off and picks up, and some of those engines look a little dusty from travel.
Hi Jeff, always love going back to and watching your playlists of my favorite games. Quick note though, episodes 10 and 11 are the same video. Just thought I should mention it. 🙂👍
Hi Jeff. Just have to say I love you sim videos. I’m hoping to find a great PC so I can play some of these great games myself. Watching this video I have never heard of a train wash but I googled it. It was nice seeing them in real life. Keep the great videos coming.
Hey Jeff! I really enjoying your videos from June 2017, because you're kind of similar person as I am. I like that you are enjoying everything, what have at least 2 wheels and engine. My most favorite series you're doing is LSPDFR, but I'm watching also you other series (as a Tourist bus Sim). Maybe try Slovak police episode of LSPDFR. Greeting from Slovakia. J
I hear Amtrak is making a return to train sim world 2 when rush hour update comes out also did u know that on LIRR that if u do one of the routes to penn station u pass by sunnyside yard the Amtrak yard shown in this video
The pantograph is the thing that’s up in the air. It’s what supplies power from the power line above to the train for it to run.
No it is name Пантографа
RktFlt and you have to stop to put it down since it will shut the loco down
A pantograph is what the train uses to get power from the overhead wires. If the pantograph is down, the train won't move

Please do the New TSW DLC after finishing this DLC
Yes agreed
Agreed to
I love the vids but maybe some more attention to the upcoming speed limits so you aren’t as surprised when it goes from 60 to 15 like at 8:10
hey jeff the pantograph is used for powering the loco. you cant put it down well the train is moveing. if you put it down the train will not have power to move.
Aaron Miller well these aren’t dual mode locomotives they are electric only
Aaron Miller its fine NJ Transit has dual moad locomotives that look very similar.
Hey Jeff, can you do the peninsula corridor if you have a chance? Also, train sim world 2020 will be a free update to Train sim world.
Johnny really I was planing to buy it tsw 2020
Johnny I just got this game. Now 2020 is out?? Sheesh. Lol
@@Jacrabbit454 You'll get the update if you have the game.
The update is free, but the Peninsula Corridor is supposedly $30
@@Bmorang 26.99 right now...10% off in steam

This scenario pissed me off so much in the words of Ricky Bobby, I wanna go fast 😞

I am a Old watcher. Nice to see you changing it up. Maybe a Code Zero someday?
Same
yeah but zach cant, his everything is broken and he said he could only start coming back if he got a new computer and all of that.
Great video Jeff. I have never seen an Amtrak move that slowly before. The one that goes by my house out in rural Cali regularly travels at 100 to 120 mph. I have clocked it on my bike a few times. Lol
Jeff you make me smile when my mom and dad fight thank you for that you're the best TH-camr ever
ouch u too.
wtf dude
Really annoyed me how you didn't notice the speed changes. haha dunno why.
Hey Jeff. Great vid. Quick note: in large terminals such as NYP, horn blasts are not required, only the bell.
You don’t use the horn in the station, or pretty much any time you start an Amtrak train on the corridor, just the bell.

Jeff, finally got to ride on the NE corridor IRL. It's crazy how accurate a lot of TSW is! Rode on the Acela and the ACS-64

Joshua Parker same
Jeff do the LIRR and Peninsula corridor
We need Stormworks: Build and Rescue!
The part sticking up is actually what is connecting you to the power lines above that are providing the power to the train.
Not when there are no power lines to connect to, which is why I was trying to bring them down
@@jfavignano It's an electric train, therefore it needs power to run it. If the pantograph is down, it makes no connection to the power lines above it. If you take the GO Train. They’re geared not to accelerate to fast from a stop. Which kept them below priority than freight.
The entire game is getting a complete overhaul tomorrow. I can't wait.

New York Switcher is just free play Jeff
You have this video on your TrainSim playlist twice. Just letting you know

Hey Jeff, the pantograph can’t be moved unless you are doing a service. You can’t really change much when doing a scenario.
It shows underneath the singals when speed Changes are coming
You're right it's called a paragraph that's how the train gets his power it's all electrical 200 volts without her the train don't move

Pantograph as explained in top comments
The pantograph is what the locomotive gets it’s power from since there is no prime mover turning an alternator
They have a new beta stage update for Flashing Lights! So I suggest you should check it out when you have time to.
I never knew that trains were even washed. If anything it was a hand wash of the locomotive, every Amtrak train I've seen has been super dirty as if it has never seen a wash since put in service!
Bell should be on for speed under 15mph, "yellow signal" is known as a slow order, and you shouldn't honk while in an enclosed station.
You spin me right round.
Love to see new DLC!

Please do more Amtrak videos or live streams? I LOVE Amtrak!
You can cut the bell once you’ve cleared the platforms.
pretty sure you should only use the bell and manualy make the lights flash in tunnels and not sound the horn
It’s the yard limit which is 15 mph and the wash limit is 3 mph. The lights are yellow because you were going into the yard
Yes please, do Penninsula Corridor when you get the chance
Yo my guy, Jeff, you gotta use an FPIU or a CVPI with the Wisconsin HP State Trooper skin in the next LSPDFR vid
Yes, Please do the peninsula corridor

Heck yeah with the new DLC.
Those pantographs collect electricity from the wires above to power the train
I hear Amtrak is making a return to train sim world 2 when rush hour update comes out also did u know that on LIRR that if u do one of the routes to penn station u pass by sunnyside yard the Amtrak yard shown in this video

the building tracks is probably something to do with antialiasing and the resolution
Two uploads cool!
Cant wait for the new dlc. Slowest train ever!!!!
I'd love to see this new dlc
With the Pantograph it may also be since you have the train in motion that you can't get the buttons to work.
Jeff those railroad ties that are loading in that is your headlights showing on the track the distance on them are not very good
what laptop do you reccomend to play this game
