Just a tip. When sitting in the driver’s seat, just press “L” for lights. It will turn on a dome light inside the cabin. It’s much better to operate the loco. When walking, you have the flash light by pressing “L” either. It’s good to use those in this night condition.
Jeff, buddy, pal, the number board lights are only turned on in the controlling/lead locomotive, 2 horn blasts when starting to move forward, 3 horn blasts when starting to move backwards and at 26:30 you went through a crossing with the gates up... Naughty naughty!! Lol keep up the content!!
Jeff, the game is correct with prototype railroad rules. Your speed limit does not increase until the whole train is in that zone, so yes, when the last car passes the increase sign. And yes, if the speed is going down, it is as soon as the lead locomotive passes the decrease sign.
Jeff when using the dynamic break you have to be in set up on the dynamic break for 20 seconds not Idle on the throttle. You will see negative amps when the dynamic break is ready to use. This setup position on the dynamic break doesn't apply the beak it's just a a position to set up the break and a position to disabled the dynamic break but keeps it active so you can reuse it without waiting for it to set up again.

Where I live there is an 8 or 10 track rail yard, and several trains there are Union Pacific like you see in the video. The multi engine trains do have the trailing engine red beacon active and only the headlights on the lead (minus loads). If the train is hauling freight cars and no caboose then the last car should have it's red beacon on.

How real train speed limits work: When the limit drops, you must be at or under that speed by the time your head end passes the board. When the limit rises you cannot increase above your previous limit until the rear of your train has passed the board. In the real world you know how long your train is and keep an eye on your mileage or speed & time. So the game is working correctly in that respect, you have to wait for the rear of your train to pass the board before you can increase speed. Also its a bug in TSW (also in T:ANE, coincidentally) that when the game starts your limit is erroneously shown as 40 (default) because the game hasn't encountered a trigger to tell it otherwise, but in reality your limit within yard tracks is almost always 15 mph.
FYI, the crossing horn signal should be long long short long, which you got right. The last long blow should start BEFORE the crossing and end after your first vehicle crosses it. Otherwise, good job!
Didn't really see anyone note this, but you want to be coupling at less than 2 mph. Above 3 mph the engineer really starts to get bounced around and will really get pissed with the conductor pretty quick if the joint is above 5 mph because that can be enough to knock you out of your seat if you're not ready for it. Remember, you're taking locomotives that weigh 150+ tons (300,000 pounds) and stopping them in less than a foot. That's a lot of energy transfer.
UP owns the tracks. Most freight is at night, but there are definitely run through Manifests. Most happen at night as to not interfere with passenger operations. FRA designates Passenger priority nationwide.
On console I am truly struggling to decide whether or not to upgrade to this considering I've invested so much into dlc for the original train sim world, this really helps
As a train guy (obviously lol) I don’t think much is to be said that hasn’t been said already. TSW is insane for the amount of money it makes you pay for DLC. I have Trainz: A New Era and TSW and I always take for granted all the things that you can get for TANE for free (with 3rd party content, DLS, etc.) TSW lacks an operational standpoint, with you take cars here, drop a few here and end here. You don’t work customers, you don’t do any run-bys, or anything from a realistic standpoint. A lot of times if I’m stopped I’ll do a run by of a passing train. I do like the fact that you can switch your tasks mid game in TSW, as if it’s a crew change or something. When I make routes in TANE, I usually set things up so that you could realistically get in a full 10 hour shift in a session. (Insane, I know.) anyway, keep up the great videos Jeff.
Well, its logical that you should only increase your speed once the last car has left the low speed zone and entered the high speed section. Its to prevent derailments through careless acceleration.

Yeah the signal realism is not very good I agree because in most automated block signaling systems the signal drops as soon as the leading axle of the head locomotive passes it or should I save a reading truck of the lead locomotive passes it and then it drops you shouldn’t have to wait for your entire train to pass the signal that’s not correct on any railroad that I’m aware of
I love your work, Jeff but Dovetail's freight scenarios are so unimaginative. It's literally pick up these cars and take them here and you're done. No working customers, no switching out specific cars. None of that. Keep up the good work with the train videos!
if you want to do all that you gotta check out TRAINZ. another train sim with a creative tool where you can make your own routes and pick out specific industries and even set how long of an interval is needed to spot loaded cars and pull out empties. real fun

Question about the camera views. How do you get the one that is stationary away from the train that shows the trains moving? Example at the crossing. It shows the train approaching then passing through the crossing.
Cool video,but however you should try out Run8. It;s graphics isnt as good as TSW and the amount of detail ,but its way better in physics and train handling and more of a challenge.

And there is something oddly romantic about a freight train at night that brings back childhood memories of hopping Conrail and riding the rails at night. But seriously... Why are the stars such shit? I've been a fan, but never owner of Train Sim for a long time but: How do they stay in business when they release a new version every year, and every year you have to buy another $5000 worth of DLC's if you ever want to go more than 5 miles?

Any unit designated "SD" has 6 axles. GPs have 4 axles. But the engines are similar. SD40s have turbocharged 16 cylinder engines whereas GP38s have a naturally aspirated variant

Never seen a freight run in a long time on TSW. Great work, also literally saw it as soon as I came home from my first day of High School.

Set trail 6 on the other engines to use them as power units. Also control the headlights above the fuse panel (controlling/controlled)
