I won’t be doing business with classic firearms again but, I will admit that you got a pretty nice rifle especially for the price. Great content as always man.

Why not, what's their deal? Only bought some ammo from them once, went fine.

@@benjammin7993 not bring up old beef but, to make long story short they screwed over Alden from the mosin crate on a deal they were working on. That and when ever I’ve purchased surplus from them it’s honestly been 50/50 on whether or not I get a serviceable piece or a shot out, worn out, glorified wall hanger. Most of their inventory is from RTI so junky but with that “classic” pricing.

@@serioussoldier7977 I think I did see something somewhere about someone receiving a surplus that was basically worthless. Pretty shady to sell something they know isn't any good.

@Ben Jammin I think most of the surplus websites overstate the condition. I've heard classic is pretty bad about it though.

In 1966 I was stationed at Marine Corps Air Station ElToro just outside Santa Ana California. I bought a Jungle Carbine at a gun shop for $50. After I was discharged, I was out of work so I sold it in 1969 for what I paid for it. It was a great little rifle and I wish I had held onto it.

Before Lee Harvey Oswald you could send $20 to Kline's in Chicago for one of these carbines known for their wandering zero. For a few dollars more you could get a carcano with a very shaky scope that was actually screwed to the wooden stock. We are supposed to believe that a man with very poor scores at the shooting range in the Marines was able to use this gun for three fast, long difficult shots and had no assistance.

Definitely check the headspace, and if you have not done it before read up on how to correctly check headspace on Lee Enfield with rimmed cartridges, is different than modern ammo. Next Enfields are notorious for having very generous chambers. Fire a couple of rounds and check your brass for case expansion. It is worth reviewing this site if you are new to Enfields. As a final Winchester and Remington 303 both have thinner rims than surplus 303, something to takein to account if your head space is marginal.

I purchased Mk5 from the same sale at Classic Firearms. My Carbine was about the same condition as yours. I cleaned and restored the carbine and the end result came out great! (Just my opinion), I'm sure my comments will receive criticism for restoring it. This rifle was really in rough condition. Tks for the video!

At one time I owned 7 Enfield rifles, when I bought them they were very dirty and scratched up, but I refinished all of them and they turned out pretty nice looking guns. The one Enfield I own today, I can put 3 rounds into a soft ball sized spot at 100 yards, not bad with open sights.

  • @richardturk7162

I have owned several used ones and several un issued #5s made in the mid 50s.
Never paid over 60 bucks for any of them.
All had wandering zero issues the used ones especially. The un issued ones were decent shooters as long it was a cold bore shot.
After 5 or 6 rounds the zero went away and hitting a paper target at 200 yards good luck.
Clint comes off as having a huge ego.

I can't imagine anyone suggesting that anyone buy a firearm from classic or RTI. Rarely does anyone luck out and get a decent firearm. I wouldn't buy a German luger from them even at $150.00 unless I thought I needed a parts gun. In this case you got lucky. Nice No. 5

I purchased a No.5 J.C. back in 1976 for about $75 Dollars. It was in great condition. UNFORTUNATELY I had it drilled and tapped for a scope. The gunsmith drilled into the chamber pretty much ruining the rifle. I've shot it many times since then but I'm pretty much holding my breath waiting for the screw to blow out the top. I haven't shot it in over 20 years now but it still looks great. I did find a No.5 J.C. bayonet for it and it works perfectly. I really appreciate the flash hider.

I was on the fence for last 3 weeks over getting one of these at the 499 price. I finally pulled the trigger yesterday morning (4 April), has already shipped.. supposed to be here in a few days. I'll come back and let you know how I made out😬
Update, 8 April, just picked up my jungle carbine..packed same as yours.. my first impression is 😁. Took it apart, wow, no bugs inside, no dirt inside, no cracks in the wood, barrel looks really good.. everything functions well. I am very happy so far with this purchase. Now to clean her up..
Ok, all clean..the barrel is amazing, bright very defined rifleing, about 50%bluing over all, not wire wheeled.. wood cleaned up great..used linseed oil on it.really nice.. all in all a really nice rifle, BSA version, 1945, yep got it from classic..
My 4th purchase from them, been great so far.. peace..😎
Edit..So, I decided to buy one for my brother, ordered it on 11 April, got it today 14 April. Same year 1945 and from the BSA plant.. Long story short, got her all cleaned up, linseed oil bath.. this one is in better condition than the one I just described. Amazing condition. Number 5 from classic batting a 1000... Good luck out there.😁

It is the only bolt action rifle I own. Wouldn't part with it. Have plenty of old .303 ammo for it in large sealed tins. No bugs in mine.

Glad it turned out pretty good, that bore ought to clean up well and be a good shooter. I still think prices are crazy for the condition all these RTI guns are in, but there's nothing that can be done about that. If Classic would sort them by bore condition even if it cost an extra fee, it might be worth the gamble more but you never know if you're getting a shot out sewer pipe.

@@ReadinessReviews Yeah and I could see why they wouldn't want to back when they had crates and crates of Mosins, it would take forever. But I doubt they had all that many of these. A quick brush down the bore and a peek at it could have made them more money in the long run if they charged a bore hand select fee in addition to the cosmetic hand select.

Not a bad deal. Most people complain that they have to disassemble to clean lol. To me thats the best part of our "addiction to history". The best method so far from guns from Africa for me is to completely break it down and soak in mineral spirits for 2 hours. Kills all live critters and eggs or whatever. Stock and all. I bought a 4ft plastic storage tub from walmart for 10 bucks, works great. After that I rinse everything with HOT water. Wipe off all your metal components. Let the wood air dry, some markings in the wood but not all will bounce back. From there you can use a clothes iron and a wet rag carefully to draw out any dents or light scratches From there use your favorite CLP to finish and reassemble.

There R a lot of comments on the #5 having a wandering zero but I have not fired mine enough to notice. It is more of a jungle rifle and long dx fire was not really the purpose of the design. The one that I have is in new condition apparently a factory rebuild. The #4 sights have been modified for the closer jungle use. Don't know on the wandering 0... lots of ideas but I think the factories and designers finally decided it might be the shorter barrel harmonics related to the stock mounting. #4's can be very accurate but apparently the #5's not so much at range. That said love the #5 but not as much as the #4. Wear some recoil protection if you are going to shoot it much your shoulder will thank you! 🙂

I purchased a Santa Fe Arms Jungle Carbine from Gun broker. You and I know the old story about they are fake and not real. Once I received it, I took it to Bruce Dow of Dow Armsroom in Dade City, Florida. He looked it over and inspected it. I paid him $50 bucks for the service. when I went back in to pick it up, he told me that it was the best Santa Fe Arms jungle carbine he had ever seen. I asked him if he would keep it if he were I. He told me flat out that once in awhile Santa Arms did get it right, and he would never let it go. I paid $595 for it. Many people say the flash suppressor on the Santa Fe Arms are made of pot metal. I do know that magnets will not stick to pot metal which is true. Bruce pulled his pocket magnet out and tested it right in front of me. The magnet stuck to it. My flash suppressor is made out of real metal. I want to make a little video of it and send it to you so you can see it. Please let me know if this is possible. Thank you.@@ReadinessReviews

Classic did me dirty about 7-8 years ago and have not looked their way ever since. Mis represented a No.1 Mk3* both in condition and provenance. Paid top dollar (at that time) for a proper example and ended up receiving a bottom of the barrel, mid-60’s Ishapore arsenal rebuild mixmaster. there are many other reputable resources for milsurp out there - no need to risk a less-that satisfactory transaction with the likes of Classic. They even deleted my review in which I was way more understanding than I should have been. Classic may have rebranded themselves and Ben has stepped out from in-front of the camera- but they remain the same cheeseball outfit. Caveat Emptor my brother 😎

I got a "professionally detailed" one from AIM suplus over a decade ago at a decent price that was refurbished respectfully and I'm sure was a step up from what it started out as from somewhere in Asia, maybe Malaysia. Shoots great, no wandering zero for me. You can (or could) get a replacement rubber butt pad for the leather one. Easy to swap the old one back in for originality.

Mine was almost identical to yours but with less finish, 1 bent ear on front sight, broken safety but, all matching numbers. Same price from RTI .
All in all, after cleanup and safety replacement (i think it was like $12?) I'm pretty happy with it.

I got one during the sale as well. Mine was wire wheeled pretty aggressive though. The bore is decent. The muzzle end of my fore stock is different and has a metal end cap. Buttstock is like yours. Barrel and receiver have lightening cuts. Bolt knob drilled. Milled flip up sight. Dated 1945. A couple months earlier I bit the bullet so to speak and also bought the M28 and M28/30(?) Finish MOSINS from Classic as well. They actually are in good shape. Just pricey. But, that’s what I get for not getting them when they were coming in en mass about 10 years ago

Check bolt lug engagement, non-matching bolts in enfields are a whole other game than in mausers. They were fitted to the rifle and sometimes non-matching bolts only bear on one lug, this is considered to be unsafe to fire if that's the case. You can fit the bolt but would definitely look into it before you shoot this a bunch.

Hope you do a video of you cleaning up this one. I bet it will look a lot better with some TLC. And a lot less Bed Bugs. From all the ones I've seen, I would say $550 is a good deal for this one. I myself would be happy with the deal.

I quit buying from Classic Firearms. A couple of years back I ordered a CZ82 paid extra for "hand select best out of 10"
The CZ they sent me was missing the rear sight, the left grip, the finish was really bad, and the barrel was budged. Naturally that was completely unacceptable.
Classic firearms would not allow me to return it for an exchange and claimed I never paid the extra for hand select (even though it was on the invoice) overall their customer service was just horrible.
They lost a customer that day who at the time would buy 4-5 guns a month from them.

I don't think you went far enough. I am restoring a similar N05 from Royal Tigers and am trying to figure which repainting of the metal is correct and show the model markings. I looks like Alumi Koate will be the thinnest coating; approaching the British original system. Do a restore on this No 5.

Yes, that is indeed bedbugs. That is a testimony that this rifle was used in combat and was stored and carried close to a person for extended periods of time. It is also a reminder that pest control in wartime is non existant as it is a non essential commodity. The bedbug need a protected hiding place to hide inside and in training camp it would not be inside a rifle since at that location the rifle would undergo regular maintanance and cleaning. In the field, not so much. Then it went straight to storage and the bugs starved to death.
