    I am 46 years old and only now starting to appreciate line drying clothes. My mom always did it, but I hated it. I never liked the smell, they were stiff and I just didn't like it. But now she is no longer living and with money being tight and trying to save where we can, I have started line drying our clothes. I had to ease into it though with just blankets, sheets and towels cause they were easy to hang, then I gradually started getting more into it and am now doing everything. I am realizing some of my issue for years was just needing to have a more efficient system for myself then what my mom did. She had a plastic ice cream bucket for clothes pins that the handle broke over time and you had to constantly pick up and move to where you were down the line, I have since gotten a belt/bag to wear my clothespins and they are always where I need them, similar to your apron (very cute btw!) Now I feel I have the best of both worlds of feeling close to my mom again by using her clothesline, but not getting annoyed at how she wanted me to do it 😅 Also I love feeling like I'm getting back to the older ways of doing things

    In my past two city houses I was fortunate enough to have clothes lines. I hang them on a rack now if I can.
    I truly love hanging up clothes on the line - I have a proper way and technique. Actually, back when my mother was a young girl in the the early 40’s, she was taught by her mom and grandmom to properly hang up clothing.
    You can be and are judged by the way you hang up your clothing.
    She then passed her methods to me - whether I liked it or not. I am proud and happy to have adopted those methods and skills. I now do the same with my daughter and son and husband too - “it’s never too late to learn and learning does not occupy space“
    Katie it’s was so nice to see you out in the sunshine by the cloth line.
    When I move into my next house that’s the first thing I’ll put up!
    🌷Sam

      Hi Sam, as I read this (one of my family members) brought the laundry in all waded up and didn’t hang it. (They were hangable shirts.) 🤦🏻‍♀️ I held my tongue but I have told them and told them🤦🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️. Will they ever learn?!

    I had a baby swing on my clothes line when my daughter was small. Oh how she loved to swing between the lines; especially sheets and towels. The memories are sweet.

    So many people comment on stiff or scratchy laundry...it could be from using too much detergent. You only need about 1/8 cup of liquid...not a whole big capful EVEN if the bottle says that much. For powdered, a tablespoon of it is plenty. I know. Sounds crazy. But it isn't the soap that's cleaning your laundry. It just makes the water "wetter" so it goes thru the fabric easier. It's the water pushing thru fabric that's doing the cleaning .
    I have not owned a clothes dryer for over 28 years & don't miss it. I line dry outside half of the year & hang it indoors ( in back bedroom upstairs) during cold months. Turn on ceiling fan.
    Laundry line dried lasts over twice as long. Dryers are rough on fabric.
    I'm w/ you! I LOVE hanging laundry outdoors! The sun, breeze, birds, flowers in bloom...love it !!
    The sun sanitizes, deodorizes & can bleach out stains. I hang clothes inside out to prevent fading.

    2 years ago, my clothes dryer died ! I told my hubby not to even think about having it repaired again or purchasing another one ~ ever ! I already had a very nice long double clothesline he put up for me years ago , which I used every chance I got ! We heat with wood in the Winter & our stove is in the basement . So I had Hubby put me up a clothesline in the basement for those days of inclement weather . Some people think all that is odd , but like you , I love hanging out clothes & thank THE LORD each time I hang my clothes out for a beautiful day with wonderful fresh air & my clothes line .
    I have a certain way I always hang my clothes , too . I can hear my baby chicks , turkeys , big chickens & birds singing while I hang mine up too . It is so awesome !

    Yes! What great tips for new homemakers. I love love my clothes line. Nothing like a fresh cotton nightgown and sheets off the line. 😁 When we purchased the home we are in now 20 years ago it did not have a clothes line on the property. That was amended right away! I have one of those hanging thingies but must confess I'm guilty of hanging it up in the family room in the winter over the heat vent. I love hanging clothes out as well but … I hate the way clothes smell after being hung out and they feel so stiff . Help !! I know a lot of people love the way clothes smell hanging out . Do you have any tips for soft good smelling clothes ?😝

    • @HeritageWaysKatie
      @HeritageWaysKatie  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh my! I love the fresh smell. 😍 I do recall my Mama always hated that the towels could "stand up by themselves" after being on the line. LOL For me, I love the roughness of the towels because they are exfoliating. LOL However, you could always throw them in the dryer for about 10 minutes to soften them up. It works. 😃 Love ya sister❤️kt

      @mckaylamast3038 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don’t have any advise for the smell cause I love how they smell haha! But something I’ve found helps soften the towels the best is throwing them in the drier for 5 to 10 mins Before you hang them outside instead of after they’re dried hanging outside and they stay very soft;)

    • @sammie44
      @sammie44 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Another tip is to give those towels a quick ironing with steam, the heat from the iron will soften up the fibres. Also, if you can, try hanging up the clothes to dry, earlier in the morning when the sun is not so hot and harsh.

    • @apAvocado
      @apAvocado ปีที่แล้ว

      The bugs could be attracted to the scent of your laundry detergent. I've found that when I use Gain detergent the bugs like the scent on my clothes, I'll go out there to check the clothes on the line, and there will be one or two bugs. I don't have that problem with Tide original or with Tandril (detergent from Aldi).
