    I have hung laundry outside for decades. I have not owned a dryer for 28 1/2 years. My way of hanging laundry differs from yours. I turn all clothes inside out so the sun doesn't fade the outside & so the sun can shine on any areas prone to odor....the sun kills odors.
    I pin the waistband to the line w/out folding the waistband over the line....this way the waistband stays flat. I hang shirts by their hems ....that way the sleeves hang down....they hang away from the garment which helps in drying. I, too, unzip pants.
    I hang heavy sweatshirts/hoodies by the hem.....everything , then, hangs down & catches the breeze. There are only 2 layers, then, instead of 4.
    I hang each sock separately & by the toe so the sun , again, shines right on the toe.
    I love how everything smells dried outdoors....how lovely to pull a shirt over your head & take in that scent !
    Line drying laundry is free. The sun sanitizes, deodorizes. Line dried laundry lasts MUCH longer than when dried in a dryer.
    I have a revolving clothesline. It's not an umbrella style....I had one once & had difficulty figuring out the best placement of laundry on it ! Now I have parallel lines & I hang the underwear on the inside lines ....so it's hidden.
    SO glad you did a video about using clotheslines. I find another advantage is not having to rush to get the laundry as soon as it's dry ! When using a dryer, you really need to get the laundry out asap or it'll be a wrinkled mess. This is not true of line-dried laundry. It won't wrinkle as it hangs ! This buys you some time as opposed to using a dryer.

    If you hold the clothes by the top and then shake them aggressively it also can get wrinkles out of the fabric and so you don't have to iron as much :)

    I love doing laundry, is very relaxing for me. I recently built a laundry house, equipped with everything I need for the perfect laundry.
    I live in a tropical weather so I don’t even own a dryer.
    One tip, I use a lot of hangers to hang T-shirts and shirts.
    Happy laundry 😁☀️👚

    My grandmother taught me to hang shirts upside down, at the seams, by the tail. The breeze puffs them out and dries them quickly with no wrinkles.

    Terrific tips! Kudos to you for hanging all that laundry! I think fresh clean sheets dried in the sunshine have the best smell, especially since I don't use perfumes or fragrances. Thanks for sharing this video! ❤️

    Its usual to hang wadhimg outside in the UK, tumble dryers are not so popular. The only way u differ to you is that i use ckothes hangers for shirts, blouses and dresses and multipin hangers for socks (savers a load of room). I use a rotary dryer which takes a complete load from my 10kg washer.

    I find line drying the most efficient way to dry clothes, my outdoor line hold 6-7 big loads I have a 9kg washing machine. In the winter I use air dryers inside in front of a heater. It is summer here in Australia but I have had to dry my washing inside for the last few weeks because of the smoke from the fires, I was so excited this morning when I realised it was smoke free outside as I was able to catch up. I feel like your wasting your summer if you don't have a clothes line billowing with washing.

    I hang everything the same way as you but I have all plastic (pegs) as we call them in the UK. Thank you for the video.

    I do it because I’m from the UK where most people hang laundry, so I’m used to hanging my laundry, also for my soccer (football in the UK) clothes, I use the wood pins over the plastic for both the jersey and my shorts, because it’s lighter

    drying outside is good to save money but it's still come out wrinkly so I put them in the dryer for 5 mins after drying outside with a dryer sheet to get the wrinkles out.

    Live in Arizona so using the conditions of a dry state is definitely something that interest me but everytime I try to dry my clothes outside they tend to be crunchy any tips to avoiding this would be amazing

    • @arcanondrum6543
      @arcanondrum6543 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Any laundry left "crunchy" after drying on a clothesline can be thrown into a dryer for 10 minutes on a no-heat setting or less time on a heat setting. That will fluff them and remove any lint as well. It's a best of both.

      Add a 1/2 cup of vinegar to your wash. It will help but not completely solve the problem.

      I hear you! I didn’t have a clothesline until we moved into our second house as there was a bi-law preventing a clothesline at our first house. Great idea to use coat hangers!! ❤️ We had a folding rack I would use and eventually strung a few ropes across rafters in the basement.

    I have a clothesline just like your but have one big problem maybe you can help me with. My sheets tend to blow over the top line and make it close to impossible to pull back in! Have you found any solutions if you have also had this problem? Thanks for your help!

    I love all your videos! Thank you for airing your clean laundry ;-) I've actually been really fascinated by hanging clothes to dry on a line. What do you do in the winter months when the weather is crumby? I live in the NW and I've been thinking about creating a similar set up in my garage (which is too small for my minivan, but would absolutely accommodate laundry) Thoughts? Suggestions? Thanks for the great inspiration, doll!

      @HomemakingMaven  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oooo! Fantastic idea to use your garage!! In the winter I'm currently using the dryer. But in our last house my husband had woven a clothes line back and forth across our basement for me to line dry down there. Our winters are so dry, the moisture from the clothes evaporated likety split!

    Awesome video , I try to hang laundry all summer I have enough lines for three loads with 8 kids this is an exhausting task. I give up in the winter . Just curious if your children have 1940 popular names?

    • @HomemakingMaven
      @HomemakingMaven  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not really. They just have names my husband and I liked. They'd probably be considered modern. Their middle names are family names but also British monarchy names. So that's fun!

    Do you use fabric softener in the washer so the clothes don’t dry stiff?

    • @HomemakingMaven
      @HomemakingMaven  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Sort of...I use vinegar in place of fabric softener and a second rinse cycle. I don’t really mind my clothes being a bit stiff as it makes them faster and easier to fold. ❤️😊

    How do you attach the rope to the pulleys??

    • @HomemakingMaven
      @HomemakingMaven  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      We bought the line and pulleys together in a kit from Canadian Tire. It came with a metal connector that you thread the line end through then twist to tighten the line and hold it together. Excess line is clipped off.
