My personal opinion and I’m sure most of OZ will agree Dick Johnson is the most famous and loved driver ever to grace Australia, that’s taking nothing away from Brock, great coverage Adam looks like knowing paul linfoot is giving you the contacts....... please keep this up 👌🏻😎👍🏻

DJ is a legend and certainly has a big following in Oz, but Peter Brock's , legend, popularity and place in Australian Touring Car racing is unrivaled. Saw first hand on numerous occasions the enormous cues waiting to get an autograph from the great man long after the races were finished, Teams on their way home and on occasion after he had retired from full time racing. If races were won on popularity along, PB would have been a clear winner every time. The only other driver to come close in Australia is Craig Lowndes, ironically the masters apprentice. Great to see Brock's old Sierra again. Wasn't a patch on the DJR cars, although would snatch the odd win or pole position. To PB's fans it didn't matter, 05 was out there given it a red hot go and that's all that mattered.

Must say listening to that engine & it’s pick up that’s definitely a well engineered YB.
That picks up very well & is pulling boost very well.
Sure the ARE cam profiles & T4 mods are playing part.
    Iconic beautiful great car.

Brilliant video Adam. Great to see your no nonsense, down to earth understanding and respect for these old girls. The RS500 is far from perfect and not for everyone, but if you understand why they came into existence and what they did, then they represent a small but unforgettable part in motorsport history.

I'm amazed that both Dick and Peter's RS500s ended up in the UK. You're a bloody legend for doing these epic and nostalgic videos. I've shared them with friends and family. I actually own the last registered FD RX-7 road car in Australia. Like you said, the smell is like a car scent tree and to sit in it and soak up the charisma of motor car engineering is something personal.

The DJR (Dick Johnson Racing ) RS 500's were the bee's knees down here in Australia, dominated our local touring car series for a couple of year's until the Nissan GTR R32 came along.

Dick was a good driver, but a brilliant engineer. He built some belter cars over the years, on much smaller budgets than his rivals. Ironically these days DJR is the big money operation at the head of the field.

    Great Vids,
Have you guys heard of some other Aussies who may have done a little bit of racing there in the UK, John Arthur (Jack) Brabham, Frank Gardner, Mark Weber just to name a few. Peter Brock did not die in Targa Tasmania, it was Targa West in Western Australia. Yes Brock was very well known all over the world but please do not forget any others.
As stated in one of your other Vids the DJR Sierra's proved them selves to be the fastest Sierras racing in the world. can you remember when Dick and John Bowe raced in the UK. They were the fastest and gapped the field but unfortunately did not last the distance, water pump failure as I recall.

R.I.P. Brocky. This car is significant & worth some real dollars as Brocky was a Holden (General Motors) man, but later in his career he had a fall out with Holden, Because of the 'Black Box Polariser' invention!!!, so he teams up with the enemy manufacturer to Holden, which is Ford of course, and that year,(1988) Ford Falcon still didn't come with the V8, so other teams had the Sierra Cosworths aswell. The Cosworth did win the Bathurst 1000 KM race in 1988 but it didn't win the championship that year.I'm surprised this car is in the U.K.?? I don't think this owner knows how much its worth!!!

  • @MadRS

Brock was an absolute legend of Australian Racing. He is known as the King of the Mountain (Mt Panorama) but in my honest opinion the best racer to come out of Australia was Sir Jack Brabham. To go to Europe and take on the big boys of International racing, win 3 Championships, use an Australian built V8 and do it in a car sporting your own name. Sir Jack Brabham was a bloody LEGEND.

Good cars and very very quick on boost, i use to own a MK2 Lotus Sunbeam around 86 to 92 and my little beaut was a 290 bhp monster, straight cut gears, low comp cossie pistons, cams, head work, suspension and stiffening years of work and money. ( please trust me this car was proper ) About 1989 i was killing the new MK2 16V Golf and really really pissing off M3 owners not forgetting Capri 280’s and Tickfords. But i got to say with a real men behind the wheel of one of these 500’s i was soon put back in my place lol, damn those cars where F’ing fast in a straight line. Sad thing is most Cosworth owners smashed there cars to pieces through showing off or racing and losing control. I do wish i had owned one, i’ve never even driven one but raced many RS500’s on A and B roads. Only a very small number knew how too. 👌👌👌

I remember there was a bit of consternation in Australia when Brocky started racing the Sierra in 1989. He'd always been a Holden man and some of the fans didn't like it at all when he drove the Ford. Somehow it was okay when he drove a BMW M3, but Ford? They were the sworn enemy of Holden. From Brocky's perspective he was in the middle of a big stoush with Holden so of course he'd side with the enemy, but many fans didn't see it that way.
Brocky was fined 5 grand at Bathurst that year for directing a fire extinguisher nozzle at the intercooler during the Top Ten lap, but his time and pole position stood. It always seemed like Brocky wasn't comfortable in the Sierra, and his lack of significant results despite his ability as a driver reflected that I think. Once he returned to Holden and the V8 Commodore the success started coming again so I guess it was a car that suited him better.
I wondered at the time if Andy Rouse secretly harboured the desire to beat the DJR cars, and putting his cars in the hands of Brock would have been seen as his best chance, as Brock certainly had more natural ability as a driver than Dick. As we know, it didn't happen and DJR continued to dominate until the arrival of the Nissan GTR.

    • @woopimagpie
      @woopimagpie 4 ปีที่แล้ว

@@marcpaola1371 True, but only by 2 points, and he inherited that position because Dick's car lost a front wheel at Wanneroo and he DNF'd. That was a good season though, good close racing, and 3 drivers were in the running. Richo's consistency won out in the end, that and the GTR era was dawning.

My god. Do you know how much this O5 Brock Sierra would be worth? Brock’s everyday commodore just sold for AUD$1.05M. Imagine what this thing is worth!

Hi Buddy, Just came across your channel. Brilliant, just so happened that I was using the headphones, and when he started the race car I think I had a little juice accident in my undies. Cheers.

Brocky Died On 8 September 2006, while driving in the Targa West '06 rally, Brock was 3 kilometres from the finish of the second stage of the race at Gidgegannup, about 40 km from Perth, Western Australia

Despite his faults (he was human after all), Brocky was an absolute hero and and an inspiration to so many people. Never to be repeated.
