STORY: Although major changes have been made to the apartheid laws
in South Africa, township violence is still rife and is seen as an
impediment to real progress to full democratic equality for the black
majority. Much of the violence is undeniably inter-tribal,
stimulated by political factions, however, some commentators claim
the depressing living conditions which exist for most in the
townships, contribute to the tensions and trigger many violent
outbursts.
