    My first apartment was in1985 a 2bd 1ba for $270/mo . I was right out of high school. I made $5.15 an hour. Lot harder today.

    A lot of places say you can apply; BUT someone with better credentials might get the apartment. If no competition you will eventually get it. Sad world out there.

    Dave is wrong about this. Lowest apartment cost in my area is 900. With groceries and other expenses I would need an extra 800 a month and I can’t do that without giving up college

    • @qwertykaitlyn
      @qwertykaitlyn 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      without the legally adult age of 18, parents don't set up a limit of how long can they live with them without feeling like they're no longer welcome. it's either you send your kid to a college where they live there, parents would still be paying for a place to live for their child cause the student would have no income, that or they live at home as long as they're in school, when they finish, they could tell them to move when they find a job or find a job and pay off their loans and then move out, which as I'm hearing, paying off a student loan doesn't sound like it's taking 1-2 years for people, so then it never happens and kids don't move out, unless the parents agreed to pay 100% of the school, so the kid can just worry about making the grades, graduating, and working to start a life, putting everything financially on the parents. and then you have most parents, they want as little risk as possible, so they throw it on an inexperienced 18 year old, and call themselves a good parent because stress is only real when you're over the age of 30 in their world. so these kids call Dave, cause somebody's gotta help these poor lost souls

    In my country Ghana 🇬🇭 and in most African countries it’s weird to move out after high school. Your parents can get the police to arrest you if you think about it. You’re encouraged to keep living with your parents for free until you get married. I’m 40 year old lawyer and married but my colleagues who’re my age especially women not married still live at home with parents because they’re single. A woman needs protection as long as she’s single.
    Doesn’t mean you don’t support your home after age 30, you do.

      I can understand what you are saying. I am from India and our culture is also similar. But in the United States it’s totally different. After 18 yrs children are expected to be kinda independent. I can’t do that to my kid though I have lived in US long enough. I find that unnecessary stressing the child. This whole “independent “ thing once they turn 18 is all BS.
      Instead of moving out they could live with parents and save some money while being supportive to the parents. But you find very few families in the US doing that.

    • @MichaelAnderson-wk1no
      @MichaelAnderson-wk1no 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@sarada141 I agree that thinking kids are able to thrive completely independent of any financial support at 18 is generally BS, but I wouldn't say "very few families" here allow their kids to live with them for a few years while they transition into adulthood. I would say that's actually the norm, and moving out at 18 is more of the exception. Most parents are pretty supportive, it's usually the kid if anything that wants to move out the day they turn 18. But the few people I've met that actually did that pretty much lived in poverty throughout their 20s.

    Most landlords will want more than a pay stub. It proves there is a job but doesn't establish they actually pay their bills on time - especially in the caller's case. Just graduating high-school, probably 18 yo, and no job or bill history. What potential tenant can be more risky? I don't think it is unreasonable for a landlord to have some assurance he can and will pay. After all, 18 year olds traditionally are so reliable, right? 😏

      So one day you'd like to own a house destroyed by a homeless person? Cool.

    • @G360LIVE
      @G360LIVE 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's really not a good idea, unless you want someone to take advantage of you for a while, then when you try to kick them out, they steal whatever they can and destroy your house. Also, while they're living in your extra house, they're going to be doing a lot of drugs and inviting other people who do a lot of drugs. Heck, your extra house would likely become a hot spot for drug dealers to sell drugs. If you want to do something good with your extra house, allow someone you know and trust, who is down on their luck, to live in that extra house while they get back on their feet. If you go to a church, and you know the people there well, you can arrange something like that. But don't just take anyone off the street. That's a seriously bad idea, because you don't really know them or who they know or who they're connected to.
