  • Maharashtra is a state to be blessed with a rich history and legacy. It is home to a staggering 350 historical forts. Among the top 10 forts from these 350 is the Raigad Fort which occupies the 4th position. Though there are several factors contributing to this exalted position, the most important ones are 1. It being the Capital of Maratha Empire 2. It was here that Shivaji was coronated and also assumed the Title of Chhatrapati meaning Emperor or King and 3. In this Fort Shivaji breathed his last and was cremated. His pet dog a mixed breed known as Waghya (meaning Tiger in Marathi) also has a special place next to his master by having his own Memorial.
The Shri Jagadishwar Temple in this Fort is bound to shock first time visitors to this fort with its Mosque looks. No one would believe that it is a temple unless they go into the temple or sanctum sanctorum. And the first question that would come to one's mind is "did Sivaji really build a Temple that looks exactly like a mosque rather than a temple"? To know the answer as to why Sivaji built a temple similar to a mosque please watch this Vlog to know some fascinating history or facts behind Chhatrapati Sivaji's plans.
