Joke and sacrifice is on whoever bought this car now lol

Had it been an older car you would hear a sound so vicious you would think Micheal Bay directed this.

Decepticon roar.
My 1975 malibu transmission was destroyed when a friend driving it slammed the transmission into Park before car came to a full stop. Looked and sounded like it does in the old cartoons.
Think 75 Merc & a cowboy bucking bull ride. Not fun!

I did it in my 97 F150 and that was sure interesting..
WHAT HAPPENED DONT LEAVE ME HANGING LIKE THAT
did that in my 95 s10 and it grinded the hell out of something and i was barely rolling
I did it in my 93 Ford Aerostar. It wasn't good.
RPDBY my Honda stalled and I panicked and put it in park going 5mphs and it made a horrible clicking sound and stopped suddenly, I'm assuming there is a lock pin that stops the car from rolling in park and it was slipping as I was moving

you'd get a ticket in Florida because it's illegal to drive wth your hazards on.
AmarSTI Are you serious lol
is this bait or are you really that stupid?

Man when TH-cam notified me I rushed here hoping it was finally the video with manual transmission being put in reverse. Please do this one whenever possible.
On 99% of manual transmissions, you can't physically put it in reverse when driving. It just wont engage. You will only hear a very nasty grinding noise. And unless you don't immediately abort, you will cause wear, or worst case, permanent damage.
But most manual transmission cars has safety lockouts for this, where you have to either pull up a spring on the shifter, or press down on the shifter to engage reverse. If that's the case, you'd have to be an idiot to make this mistake.
Me and my father tried that in a uhm 97 chrysler stratus, as its called here, we didnt drive fast, but it wouldnt go into reverse but it didnt make any sound either and that one didnt have this modern safty stuff like pulling or pushing down the gear stick.
I'm one of those idiots. Was driving an old VW Jetta (1996?) and was trying for first gear. Reverse is just left of first on those, so doing it by feel is a bad idea. Even worse, you just push down ever so slightly on the shifter knob to unlock reverse.
Just a grinding noise, that's all.
Not a fan of that type of lockout or position for reverse.
eLoeL If you didn't hear any grinding noise, then you didn't push the shifter enough to engage reverse.
The shifting part is done mechanically, so all manual transmissions will grind when accidently trying to select reverse, doesn't matter what car.
No just no, I know what we did and I dont really care what your opinion about it is.

Exhaust Sports Auto 😂
Holy crap
At 2 mph the second you hit the break for switching gears it's gonna stop anyway
Exhaust Sports Auto what!!??? Oh no
Not too extreme
This happened to me when I was 16 I was driving with my dad and we were getting ready to go uphill and I shifted it into 1st gear but accidentally went into park it made a weird noise. Nothing happened to the car after, it still runs fine as of today.
Feeling relaxed after seeing this message.
Did this today and this comment eased my anxiety lol
There is a little metal tab that locks the transmission when it is put into park. I've seen it sheered off due to someone trying to push the car with a forklift while it was in park but it is very difficult to put the tab into place while the transmission is spinning (as it should be) if you did manage to bypass the safeties and get it to go in it would probably just sheer off, cease to function properly, and make noise until you have a mechanic (like me or my dad) do some major repairs.
My favorite youtuber watching these videos? Well you are a very curious one Cody as I love all of your experiments such as your recent mercury pump!
Cody'sLab Welcome back to Cody's Lab.
parking pawls i believe the tab is called
Yep, earlier transmissions used parking pawls to lock the transmission in place, keeping it from rolling back far. That's why the older cars will roll back a little into the pawl when on a slight grade. Newer transmissions must've employed the use of a disc brake inside, and that's the slight noise he's hearing. Some lawnmower transaxles employ a parking disc as well, so in theory throwing it in park keeps it from shearing off a parking pawl. Also considering that newer transmissions are in direct communication with the car's ECM, the car will only engage the reverse band when speeds are below a certain limit, to keep from destroying gears.
Midnight Mechanic new cars do it too
Just imagine if the people at his insurance company watch these videos lol
Please do continue... I have the same Ford Fusion Titanium and you are doing all the dumb shit that I thought about, but wasn't stupid enough to actually try with my own car. Thanks Dude!

No more AutoVlog...

That's easy. You'd still be there.....and there...and there.
try it on a old car. too much electrical assistance on this car.
Still doesn't engage park until the car slows down to like 5 mph. You can hear it trying to engage, but the transmission is spinning too fast.
Malvin kundai try again
I tried this on a Toyota Corolla and it was crazy the tires spun and there was a loud grinding noise in the gear selector
Tofutaco11 I tried it just grinds gears? That’s it? I mean I didn’t spin out or anything? Lol
Did it accidentally in my 96 Ford Taurus and definitely heard grinding from the trans.
dude I am deeply entertained by the fact that you did everything I wanted to do with my own car but didn't dare to :) dispite that what you did seems stupid to some people, but courage is noble.
Did anyone notice that the speed limit is 30 MPH and he said "Alright, I'm gonna get it up to 65 MPH"?

The computer protected the transmission on little high speed for safty issue, if you do that on slow speed below 20km/h, then you can say goodbye to your car haha.
Thank u i was thinking of that but wasn't sure.
Correct, but a lot of boxes now have the same safety at any speed. You think he didn't know this before trying it?
Love your videos. I have the same two cars Fusion and F150. Very informative and interesting videos. I always wondered these things.
I feel like this guy buys a transmission every week
DynamicGaming no? He hasent harmed the car in any way at all doing this shit

What're you ever going to say to your insurance company if you leave the transmission on the street and you have a video showing how it happened? LOL
That is a good question :)
he'd destroy the tapes.
Rob Olivera what video? 😂 I didn't see anything 😂
That would go under warranty not insurance! If you find a Inshurance company that covers broken internal parts let me know I will switch to them !
Never mind the insurance, what will the rental company say.
when I was first learning to drive as soon as I got in I switched from parking to putting the car in drive without breaking by accident and my ma yelled “What the hell was that? What are you doing? You tearin up my car don’t do that again I ain’t playin with you.”

I did that in a 2000 dodge ram three times and the grinding sound was loud - but here i am with it two years later and its still working fine.
I've been wondering about this, thank you
thanks for making all these experiments so I don't have to :D
You're welcome ;)
AutoVlog, If placing it in park doesn't stop the car during an emergency situation, then what do you recommend we should do if we ever encounter a stuck transmission or break failure? Does pulling the hand break work for that? Thanks.
Yes hand break will works, because it independent mechanism
But nowadays even parking break become electrical (which i hate indeed it use to be behind transmission knob)
But electric parking brake wont lock your tire while driving (prevent locking tire) instead it brake a while, thus press the button continuously until car stop will work (in Pajero Sport)
"Oh that's a terrible noise" Proceeds to do it 2 more times. I'm starting to think he really hates his car.

Mel's 12valve I actually did it by accident to my truck moving at 5 MPH.
What it did was some kind of weird sound in the transmission.
Transmission is still okay though.
94 7.3 IDI turbo Diesel in my 96 f 150 I was going to rev in a tunnel and hit reverse at 35mph and it stalled me out in the road.....
I work part time at a car terminal where Ford stores and ships factory cars from mainland Europe to the U.K. During a shift I move/drive anywhere from 50 to 100+ cars. It being Europe most cars are manual shift and only a few are automatics.
One night during a night shift I was driving a Ford B-Max automatic. I was doing about 30 mph when I forgot I was in an automatic and pushed it into park intending to shift into 3rd gear. Park actually engaged, I heard the gears whine and it was like I had slammed on the breaks. The guy driving behind me almost slammed into me. Noticing my mistake I pulled it out of park back into drive within 2 seconds and kept driving like nothing happened. It's definitely not something I would consider doing again. I'm glad this didn't happen to you at highway speeds.
7:44 thank me later
Jay • thank you jay ! 💀💀💀💀
Jay • ya mom lol
Thank you

😂😂😂
Great video!!! kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time. I always wondered about that. I read a story in the paper once about people that put their cars in neutral so they can coast & save money on gas. But every once in a while people would overshoot neutral & hit reverse. In older cars it will blow out the spider gears.
What happens if you press the gas and brakes while driving
Josh _ you do a burnout
steve b He's probably talking about a manual shift car.
you would stall
you fuck your engine and brakes up if you press brake and gas pedals
David H I'm talking about automatic, while driving at speeds of about 50mph.
What if when he put it in park the bottom of his car fell off?

steve b I doubt that.
steve b nope look at vids sky difference
When you put a transmission in Park, it puts a pin through the gearing system preventing the car from rolling away. That grinding sound was the pin rubbing against the mechanism trying to engage, but since it was turning fast, it obviously wasn't able to. The transmission has to be turning slowly (ideally not at all) for that pin to drop in to place.
1:38 I absolutely love seeing the speed limit sign go by :D
It's just the parking pin that locks the transmission, it was trying to find a place to engage.
Yes. Would he have been travelling slower, the pin had a place to engange and BOOM, transmission shrugged into pieces in less than a second. At least we know now, why he decided to do that driving with 65 mph...
next idea. How many cats can you fit into your engine bay before your car doesn't start.
hahahha
ACombineSoldier trust me it'd only take one when I squeeze that fucker in between the belts and fan.
I'm a cat lover and I still did a "LOL" at your comment.
It'll take one chihuahua to do the work!
Just one.
As far as I know, when you put the parking gear, theres a latch which will latch on the gear in order for the car to stop moving. When you drive fast the latch miss stopping the gear everytime. Hence, the sound
You're bold as hell for even trying this
i did this to my car by accident at 20 mph and it started bouncing.
GT500 Super Snake like hydraulic ? 😅😅
Kira Ford yeah pretty much
GT500 Super Snake lol what car do you have?
A.J. Williams Right now I have a Lexus ES300 but the car I'm talking about was my first car, a 97 Chrysler Concorde.
GT500 Super Snake so true I was driving pretty much like 5mph I wanted to get out the car so fast so I just switch to park without stopping completely and shit was bouncing almost like a jerking movement back and fort
What happens if you pop the trunk at 65 mph lol (only for a new car like yours)
💀
Adam Laski
alot of new cars will automatically disable the trunk button when out of park, I had a 2012 Fusion, the trunk would not open outside of park.
I'm sure the trunk button doesn't work when the car is in gear. that's the same with my car.
My car will let you open the trunk in any gear but if you go about 5mph the trunk release switch disables.
it won't open unless you hold onto it for couple of seconds
lol at the beginning when you were like "Now for the very most important part..." I thought you were gonna say "always use a rental car"
Thanks for the advice
Try that in a 90s automatic!
#AJ 15 I've went into reverse on accident going to neutral to rev bomb a tunnel at 35mph. It stalled in the middle of the road lmao.
The noise was most likely the PARK mechanism trying to engage. However the speed at which you were traveling prevented the transmission from locking. I think there would be some damage to the mechanism but maybe not enough to warrant repair to the park lock system.
Thank you for testing this
If you put your transsmision into parking it seems like have noise. It is in the wheel because if you park your car it will stop and even you gas it it can't move so if you hear the noises when you put it in parking. In your wheel or part of your wheel something will scratch and you need to repair it. Thx
Honestly most 2005+ vehicles have a sensor that help's to not damage the transmission when you " accidentally " shift your gears while drive! However like many comment's suggest older vehicle's didn't have this technology so once you shifted gears while drive, your vehicle would take a long vacation with the mechanic!
Almost all cars built after 2000 and newer are idiot proof , it would be interesting to see some 80's Town Car or Impala
lol
I've been waiting for this video ! Thanks for making it

AutoVlog Hey there sir, you're a brave man to try all these various experiments with a car you love. Thank you sir for the information. I was scared the first time I did this.
Thanks for the testing of weird situations. Yes, I hope you didn't do any harm to your vehicle. At least the car did not like slam on the brakes and try to put you through the windshield when you went from Drive to Park gears.
i think in most cars the odds of putting the car in Park while driving are very slim.
Thank you and take care.
why didnt you pull over to see if your car still goes on park?

my heart pumping while watching your videos hahahahha.
One thing I've always wondered is what happens when you press the trunk release button while driving? I used to have a 2007 Fusion and the trunk release was very close to the headlight and dash brightness control. I did notice in the current gen Fusions the trunk release button is now recessed and further away from the other controls.
this guy is REAAAALLLYY trying to fuck up his ford. he must be a GM guy.
Oscar Thorpe Or a Toyota/Honda guy
You can't fool me. You're Jason Bourne, aren't you?? Great Video
I actually did this about a decade ago when I was first learning to drive and my car lost power on a highway. I was a dumb teenager and didn't remember where the emergency brake was and my regular brake was not responding at all, so I did the next best thing I could think of while barreling uncontrolled down a hill: shift into park. There was quite a loud grinding and almost wooden-creaking noise while it happened but it DEFINITELY helped slow it down enough for me to turn and roll up another small hill to slow down and land it in the grass safely.
Try putting it in into low gear at high speed. This could potentially be useful if you ever suddenly and completely lost brakes. You could use this to try to slow down enough to try an emergency brake and other measures to stop completely. Some cars might allow actually engaging park while moving but I wouldn't try to use this at high speed to slow down as you might just break it and keep moving with no way to slow down.
