Wonderful progress. It's nice to see the usefulness of the mini skid steer as a ground engagement tool. It's wonderful to see how accessible heavy and semi-heavy equipment is nowadays. It really does lower the barrier to entry for these types of jobs.
I would not even attempt half the projects without this kit. As you say it has made DIY even more do-able.
Consider placing a heavy-duty tarp under the gravel and using the skidsteer to pull to tarp+gravel out of the trailer. A little bit of dry sand under the tarp acts like ball bearings and even with a ton of gravel, it should slide out fairly easily. That should help save your back.
I am impressed with that skidsteer - way better than I expected for the price. I have a direct-from-China mini excavator (upgraded with Kubota diesel) and I'm considering that skidsteer...
That is a thought, I will see where I can find a heavy duty one, most are thin rain covers here - good tip 👍🏻
Yes! A bonus Wednesday video! Definitely worth a cheeky thumbs up, keep up the fantastic work folks
Thanks Jamo 👍🏻
Your excavator driving is noticeably more fluid than last time I saw you in the seat Ian 🙂
haha, yes, I am getting used to it now. 👍🏻
Love seeing you use those little machines to save your backs!
I just woudl not attempt all of this without them now. 😀
Hi Dreamtream, must say I am not even surprised anymore with the fact that whatever you do , it’s well done! No rushed half jobs, but all well thought out! Like always well done 👏.
This infrastructure seems to take ages, then you don't see any of it 😬
@@HomesteadingUncontained So true, but you sleep better at night knowing it’s done well!
That is an amazing amount of work you have done! Outstanding as always! Thank you both! 🎉
Thank you 👍🏻
Thanks for the extra video.
No problem George 👍🏻
Just make sure that you clean out the tracks on the mini skid steer loader, and the mini excavator.
Yes, I know, that is my downfall, the amount of compressed dirt I found when the track came off.
@@HomesteadingUncontained Yes that is very important for tracked equipment.
So much fun listening to your commentary while all the time the "Building Inspectors" are conducting examination in the background.
It is only when we come to look at the footage we see them ourselves - Floki rolling in some smelly stuff behind me 🤣
Great job, guys! The drainage system looks like a winner!
Thanks, the things you will never see again but seem to take the longest to do. 😀
Great bonus mid-week episode
Cheers Eddie 👍🏻
Love the double tennis elbow braces Ian. 😂😂😂
I know, both arms are messed up 😬
absolutely beautiful work!!!!!!
Thank you 👍🏻
I have the UHI mini digger, the John Deere tractor, and the Mitsubishi 'kei' mini tipper ruck. Of all of those I use the little tipper truck more than the other two combined. I wouldn't go back to try and empty a trailer by shovel now. Might be an interesting engineering project for you Ian to convert your trailer with a rear hinge and a single hydraulic ram kit run on a 12v motor? Cheers Dave.
I have searched for these mini trucks here but they are a grey import into the UK (RHD) and not homologated for Europe and especially France who have quite tight rules on non EU imports. The Ifor Williams is too solid to retrofit a hydraulic Ram....I have checked already. Renting at the moment is the only option.
Great video. Happy Spring! Cheers from the USA ❤
Cheers Richard - Spring is too much work 🤣
Great work lads 👏🏻. I was going to say to leave the drain backfill 3" high to allow for settling but you r all over it 😉👍🏻🇮🇪
We have a lot of soil to move yet, so hoping I can just scrape it all level and flat later..... 😬
A mid-week extra treat! Cheers and great job you four!
Thank you - 👍🏻
Big Si was on a mission in this vid haha!!!
👍🏻
great extra video, just a suggestion but maybe you could persuade your son to film the swimmingpool project with a spare camera, just a time lapse perhaps. i think it would be very interesting as a extra for your channel. Cheers.
Maybe - he has to do the groundworks and then the pool company do the liner and testing - first he has to dig 🤣
Yeah as I said you'll be amazed at how much extra power you'll get from that solar tracker, glad to see you're happy with it.
Mark
It is working great - makes you think to put a couple of these in for the main system
Hi ian an julie good job an great progress
Thank you Liam 👍🏻
What a great treat with a Wednesday special!! That soak way is going to work great. So glad the weather held out for you two. Y’all are awesome.
It has been beautiful weather so far 👍🏻
Julie, you are the sand and gravel woman!
Hi guys 👍💪✌
She will soon agree to my cunning plan....buy a tipper trailer 🤣
@@HomesteadingUncontained that would be a treat on your backs as well.
@@HomesteadingUncontained Something I've been meaning to ask you for a while, why don't you get the quarry/supplier to deliver in bulk to your site rather than getting it yourselves in 1 tonne loads?
@@SimonCoates it would cost a fortune, they want around €500 to deliver, min 30 ton. Plus we would have a massive pile of one sort of aggregate. We tend to mix one load sand, then 20/40 then maybe 0/20 etc. Rental tipper truck is €70 a day so we will do that when we are ready for the big loads.
Geat Job you two!
Cheers Trevor 👍🏻
Looking good
Cheers Miguel 👍🏻
I'm no expert, but that looks like a fantastic job! Be proud!
Thanks Doug 👍🏻
Your doing great
Cheers Billy 👍🏻
Ian you are looking great managing that skidsteer now 👍 I've done a fair bit of drainage at mine over the. Last 5 years, only one soakaway (very rough in nextdoor landowners field with his permission). I bought a full four meter roll of the fabric they use for road building, it continues to be a good investment. I see lots of videos about soakaways and they all seem to line the bottom with fabric, now you mention it . . . Makes no sense to line the bottom! I'm taking that tip, thank you 👍
Cheers Graham, my son layered the fabric under gravel for his leach field. The inspector made him remove all the gravel and take it out - explained what I mentioned. Makes sense.
Good job guys! 😜
Cheers Tony 👍🏻
Hey...I've watched a lot of your video. I'm seeing you attempting to pick up boulders, wondering why you don't have the hydraulic thumb?
I bought a mini-excavator from China with the hydraulic thumb, a 12" auger, the 6" and 12" bucket, the hydraulic hammer, and the ripper.
I know, I did fit the thumb to the excavator but it is just a time issue (lazy) of getting the other machine out for these rocks. Anything bigger then yes, I will make the effort 😬
Ian, nice job. Did you consider using SUDS drainage crates? They can buffer more water than a traditional soakaway during high rainfall.
Looked into them but not really available here, they can ship but the cost was ridiculous ☹️
Might it not make more sense to hire a 2 tonne hydraulic tipping trailer, for the day & Julie could drive back & forth to quarry and back, tip off the soil & rinse & repeat.
Ian can spread the soil with the skid steer, while Julie is getting the next load.
Ohh, you just said basically exactly this while I was typing this suggestion. 🙄😜😂😂
haha, yes, we did this with the garage wall and will do it again when the drive needs to be topped off. Trouble is the quarry man has changed and this new one is so slow..... we managed 14 trips last time we rented tipper truck.
Can we have a new episode every Wednesday please?😊
We will try our best - depends on how much we can do.....
Hi Ian, although not shown in this video I have seen you use a laser level in previous videos with a remote detector. Please could you advise me on the make and model? Any thoughts on that piece of equipment?
I have some work to do and will be looking for one of these soon. Thanks
This is the one I use for outdoor work - it works really well - s.vevor.com/bfQdtT
@@HomesteadingUncontained thanks very useful.
@@HomesteadingUncontained looks like they dont deliver to UK and Amazon say its discontinued 😥
