    Basically Ibanez made a Suhr,that isn't ridiculously overpriced.Question about the pickups:they're labelled as S.Duncan ''Hyperion'',Alnico 5 humbuckers.Are they proper Duncans or ''Duncan designed''? There's no info about them,on the off.S.Duncan website,somebody on their forum said,that they're in fact the Pegasus/Sentient set,rebranded as ''Hyperion'',if that's the case,why?
    Charvel,who just released the very similar new Pro Mod DK24 Series,says clearly that the pickups are proper S.Duncans (Full Shred and Alnico Pro II with a SSL-6 singlecoil in the middle).
    Other then that,you get a lot of value for money,on both these here and the new Charvels,I specially like the switching system here,which gives you more tone options.

    • @johannjensson6190
      @johannjensson6190 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      If they are rebranded Pegasus/Sentient, that would explain why they sound a bit weak, especially on single notes. Those SD pickups are designed for clarity when playing overloaded rhythm parts, not for powerful melodic play. If i buy an AZ model, i'll replace the PUs immediately with some DiMarzios.

    • @greekfreak1980
      @greekfreak1980 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not sure if they really are,there's no official infos on these pickups other then ''passive,Alnico 5'',on the Ibanez website,S.Duncan has nothing official on them.I would have put a JB in the bridge with a Jazz or 59 on the H-H model,you can't go wrong with these sets.
      I suspect these ''Hyperion'' pickups are some sort of Duncan designed set,like the DiMarzios IBZ.

    • @kenmasters007
      @kenmasters007 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Don't overreact until you tried them yourself. They are great pups for who they are targetting. Good distortion, great cleans. You can't coil tap other pups this way without having seymour customize this for you. The Dyna switch works well and you don't want to mess with it. Forums claim the hyperions are USA Made / not designed.

    • @ronraducanu9633
      @ronraducanu9633 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The dyna switch is just a coil tap. Plenty of other guitars use that type of switching. Which is why many of the more modern pups have 4 leads instead of 2. Precisely to take advantage of the coil tapping

    • @kenmasters007
      @kenmasters007 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Sorry you are wrong... it depends where you tap... in between windings are the beginning or end and whether you use a pot, fixed resistor etc. Novices will try and get poor results.

      SAME! I bought the Az 242BC-DET. Best guitar I've ever owned and I've owned Muiscman's, Mayones,PRS...etc. what makes it the best for me is the insane versatility and god I love that roasted maple neck!

    • @onlyguitars
      @onlyguitars 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I just got an AZ224 Premium today and is an amazing guitar. For me, the neck is just great, plus the versatility, very nice sound pickups, comfortable, lighter than a telecaster and les paul I have, and at least what I can see very good quality build, no complains there.
      I really love Suhr's, want one day, but with this, I feel I have everything I wanted from a Suhr much much cheaper. Not saying it's better or equal, I'm talking specs and feel, but with this I'm more than satisfied because I just love the neck and playability. I have to say Ibanez did an amazing job with this guitar.

      A Suhr modern satin is the same price as the Prestige and it's one of the best guitars I've ever played or owned. I agree most Suhrs a bit overly priced, but they're almost magical :)
      Still prefer Ibanez simply because I grew up with them.

    • @jordandupont7430
      @jordandupont7430 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I have owned both and in no way does this AZ stack up to a suhr - ESPECIALLY considering the small difference in price. Suhr pays much more attention to detail and their fretwork is just objectively better. Ibanez is and will always be a larger company and thus not focused on quality as much as quantity. I'm not saying they don't (or didn't) make nice stuff (I own a few) just that the suhr guitars are a bit better now. Older ibbys maybe a better comparison but it's certainly not a fair one.

    • @jordandupont7430
      @jordandupont7430 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Very detailed comparison between the Prestige and the Premium. Not a lot of differences though as far as the sound per position. What I would want to know are the playability "feel" of the neck and the over-all feel of the body, though somewhat albiet, the same body contour, maybe the difference is only in the body material? But hey, that's just me?🙂

    I've never known what to think about Ibanez. I've played on my friend's and the most notable thing was how great the neck felt. I don't know what model it was but I liked it. The only problems I have with Ibanez is that almost every one of their guitars has a Floyd rose, and very often it's just the look. But great playing

    • @Returnality
      @Returnality 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's not actually a Floyd Rose, it's their "Edge System" or whatever. I get what you mean though. I'm not even really a fan of their necks either and their fretwork has always been pretty subpar. My $700 Schecter has better fretwork than most Ibanez guitars I have tried that are over twice that price. That said though, the AZ line is pretty nice.

    Sounds better than any other Ibanez I've heard (except the sg style vintage thing they came out with in the late 70s).

      Brian Cullen The new AZ models sound and look very much like the Roadster II series from 1980’s. I have one from 1983, one of the best Strats I’ve ever played.

      I'd say the AT10P (the Andy Timmons Premium model) has this beat tonally. AZ's Stainless Steel Frets, Roasted Maple & two-point Trem FTW tho..

    Why do super Strats have to be so ugly? :( I wish they got rid of their 80s influenced looks. Yuk...

      It's those SD pickups, they always sound "vintage". Meh. Replace them with DiMarzios and you'll get your modern solo-sounds back.

      johann jensson Maybe...but it's not just the tone. The whole piece sounds old and tired
