    That Luk has the best vibe and depth of all, but I'm impressed by the slightly more modern sounding AZ. Great playing too!

    Four great guitars. You are a lucky man, dude ;-) !!! Luk has a great, great strat sound. AZ is the most versatile, can do everything, but its sound is not very "distinctive", in my opinion. On the contrary, the AT models have lots of personality. My favourite is the AT100, rosewood fretboard (yours is maple, not rosewood -your description is wrong-), but iven your AT10 sounds very good. By the way, Kemper sounds incredible!!!

    Dude, I think you could play a First Act and it would still sound awesome. Killer chops! All 4 guitars sounded great. I liked the Luk and AZ best, as they seem to have a little more character all around. I have a AZ2402 on order myself.

    Finally a good tone comparison of an AZ with other guitars! Your demo confirmed the impressions I had in all the demos of the AZ series I've heard so far: I believe those new SD pickups are dreadful, the single coils in particular, and they kill some otherwise wonderful guitars. They make all the AZ guitars sound overly bright, flat and boring. You can clearly tell by listening to your video how the other single coils sound organic: you can hear the wood in the other three guitars... this does not happen with the AZ. Your demo also confirms how the Cruiser is probably one of the best sounding noiseless single coil-voiced pickup. The AT, is the darkest sounding of the humbuckers, a bit of "blanket over the speaker" tone, but not bad anyway. It's cool how you can hear a very slight difference in the attack between the two AT guitars (maple vs. rosewood)!

    Hello Nico, sorry to bother you but is there any chance that you've tried the Ibanez AT200? It was produced for a very short time and it had an interesting body wood choice, it was a mahogany with a maple neck and rosewood fretboard. I would really like your view on it in case you tried it. Cheers! Great comparison video on modern S-Type guitars!

      honestly, at the moment i'm all into the AZ, but i've just got it since a week or two, so that changes over time. i don't have a "favorite guitar" at all. i like all of my guitars, some days it's more towards tele, some days more toward strats or les paul type guitars...differs from day to day and is depended on my mood. but in general a HSS strat is where i came from when i started playing electric guitar.

    Hey Nico ! Love all of your content youre truly making this bad boy shine SO I really need your help dude!
    Specifically for the "Ibanez AZ 224F " you demoed this one beautifully and although it passed the test (- yes it sounded as good as it looked for sure ) BUT I have to know for the money how does it really compare to prestige or other Ibanez model for the features does this one kill it ? This is probably the hardest comparison to make so to speak cause unlike say sterling jp vs ebmm jp6 these have very very few differences the SOUND and FEEL appear to be equal because the roasting is only a smidge different and the hyperion pickup pairing is virtually the same ! (IM after the HSS models specifically but also considering your model the tequila burst if HH setup can perform just as well!). Is there really a huge sound difference or difference in whammy bar stability between the premium and prestige ? after all the premium is still gotoh steel does but does your whammy bar hold up with abuse? LASTLY from your end of the camera can this HH AZ model mimic strat - neck pickup tones minus the annoying 60 cycle hum even tho there are 24 frets?
    Im at that cross road because I want this model but its the one time I dont want to pay for the top shelf prestige AZ cause to me blind test with a premium like yours and I probably would not be able to spot or really feel a difference! Ive only been able to play the AZ 224F very briefly one came through my local store but there was no prestige model to shoot it out against so here I am wondering what your verdict is on this premium not so budget friendly axe. Hope to hear from you soon and im sure a bunch of others too who are struggling between choosing one haha thanks cheers!

  • @johnnyh64

    Great playing and nice comparison. I’m just wondering if the Andy Timmons guitars are using 2 volume and 1 tone or the traditional 1 volume and 2 tones? Also, do you know if position #2 and #4 are out of phase singles on the At100 and AT10? Thanks for any info you may have.

    • @NicoSchliemann
      @NicoSchliemann  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Both Timmons models have the classic controls (1 vol, 2 tone).
      Position 2 and 4 are the classic in between sounds, since the SC pickups are stacked HB, the middle pickup is not reverse wound (as in strays with “real” single coil pickups), but it produces the in between sound we know from strats.
      The traditional strat in between sound is not out of phase by the way, as the middle pickup is reverse wound and reverse polarity to cancel the hum, and if I understand it right, if it were only reverse wound and not reverse polarity, it might only kill the hum, but be completely out of phase, which would result in an even thinner sounding in between position. Hope that helps😉

    • @johnnyh64
      @johnnyh64 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@NicoSchliemann That helps a lot, thank you! I bought his pickups and I’m putting them in a strat and I thought one of his sig guitars had two volumes and one tone so I wired it that way. I don’t like it though so I’m going back to single volume and dual tones.

      Yes, that’s right. LuK were 2 luthiers working together in the beginning ones name was Launhardt the other ones with K (can’t remember what it was), hence the name LuK (u is for “und” which is German for “and”).
      But they started growing apart as Launhardt did more and more jazz and acoustic guitars while the other one (who kept the name) stayed with his Tele and strat type guitars.
      Unfortunately Launhardt died a few years back.

    Do you notice enough of a difference between the 2 AT bridges that you have considered upgrading it on the AT10? I see that you've removed the string tree on the AT10. Is that because you've installed staggered tuners? If so, which ones? I have a white AT10 myself

    • @NicoSchliemann
      @NicoSchliemann  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Kjetil Gilje well, I don’t use Tremolos at all, so I don’t really care about the different bridges of the guitars to be honest.
      I removed the string tree because it is not needed, I didn’t replace the tunes on that guitar

    • @petedechop
      @petedechop 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@NicoSchliemann Thanks a lot for the answer, that helps a lot. I was looking for the Gotoh locking tuners that were a bit lower to get more downward angle from the nut. But I guess the bridge can stay (if I don't get too curious about the tone difference)

      It's a mute to stop ringing past the nut or to stop ringing on other strings during tapping my friend! Very useful for high fashion scenarios and multi string, two handed tapping.

    • @NicoSchliemann

      Exactly what Sean said. As I don’t do any kind of nuts tapping stuff, I use this little tool to keep the strings behind the nur silent (be it on stage or in the studio)

  • @yjmsrv

    Surprised how much I like the AT10- could be because of the Eb tuning- but really like the tone on that one! Especially the JCM800 section- just curious- do either of the AT's have the treble bleed mod? I'm doubting it- but the AT10 almost sounds like it does. I have a problem with the money Ibanez charges for the AZ with a pick guard that looks like it was pulled off the shelf and just stuck on a guitar that it doesn't fit at all. It sounds nice and all- but to my ears no better then any strat-style with a roasted maple neck, and a Suhr looks 10X better because at least the pick guards fit the models! Seriously- that pick guard is UGLY- the radius's just don't match the body curves AT ALL. Horrible design.
