  • I vlogged the process of using my top loading washing machine to dye fabric for the first time. Upon reflection, I think it was a really big project for a first timer, but I am happy about how it turned out. I hope that this video is helpful in some way. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me in the comment section and I will do my best to respond. Please note that I am not an expert and this was just my best attempt and all the information given is based on my limited knowledge.

    Note This pillow is a bit itchy. Not all the pillow covers I got from this seller were itchy but this one in particular was. I love the way it looks though so I am still deciding what to do about it.

    I found that if you let the machine fill up with water and then add the dye and the salt, you can let it agitate for a minute or so to allow the salt and dye to mix thoroughly before adding the fabric. Then what I do in order to avoid the "tie die" look is that I allow the machine to agitate for a few minutes before I pause it. Then after about 30 minutes, I move the fabric around inside the machine to try to undo any of the twisting, and then let the machine agitate the fabric again before pausing it for a second time. This allows any twisted fabric to be exposed to more of the dye. Then, after I've let it soak again, I complete the dying cycle on the machine. The process is a little longer, but it does help avoid the "tie dye" effect on the fabric.

    You may not see this but... How did the results last? Did the fixative work well? Did you have any colors that bled when washing again or on other fabric/bedding?
    Planning on doing this in the coming few weeks! Wish me luck!

    I’m sure this video was made a while ago but just FYI as to one of the reasons your duvet cover came out splotchy.. I read on the RIT website to not use dye on fabric that’s been bleached so I’m pretty sure bleaching it right before made it turn out uneven. So just FYI for next time or for anyone else wondering about that! Your video was super helpful though great job I love the colors you picked!

    I loved your video. Your enthusiasm was inspiring and your dilemmas and solutions were helpful and creative
    . I am sure others are as cautious as you prepping to dye! I have some pants in the wash which I just dyed for work. I start a new job that requires khaki or black pants. I bought some affordable pink slacks at Costco and died them khaki because I couldn't find any in the colors I needed. The color turned out well, but like with your purple dye, it wasn't an all over even dye but I am good with it.
    I think your makeover was beautiful. You were smart, started with a plan, you were resourceful, and reused what you had while learning a new skill. You should be proud of yourself! LOVE your dog!!!!!!💖🐕

      Omg thank you so much for all these nice words! That’s actually so smart to buy cheaper pants and dye them a different color! I do feel very proud to start and end the day in my “brand new” sheets and it has been really lovely to receive such lovely feedback and connect with people through this video! Once again thank you so much for your words it’s so wonderful to know that people out there take the time to just say nice things like this. It really does mean a lot!!!

    I love that you thought to do a screen shot of written steps, however...the white lettering on a light colored background is nearly impossible to read for anyone over 45 that has to wear readers. Stick with classic black and white! Just food for thought for next time. Thank you for your video!

    • @wildsoniadiaries273
      @wildsoniadiaries273  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey so I believe the directions are minimum of 30 minutes but just in case I did 60 minutes for mine. So just make sure to use enough dye to cover and soak for 60 minutes the black should cover the green I would think.
