Hey girl! So the reason they came out patchy is because you didn't move the item around/stir it whilst it was in the dye. You can't expect it to get in all of the creases etc by itself, you have to physically make sure of that by moving it around :) hope it helps! 💚

    • @monicamaria6217

Oh and also I'm pretty sure you should make sure the clothes are wet before you put them in the dye, not sure why I just know that's what I do and it works :)

You need to make sure your fabrics are pre-wet before dipping in the dye to ensure even coloring

I bought a few different colors to dye my white socks and I love how they came out. I bought petal pink, aquamarine, Scarlett, Kelly green, bright yellow, teal and royal blue. I did order more colors, tan, sunshine orange, rose pink and cherry red which haven not came in yet. You are suppose to wet the item before you dye them and constantly stir them to get an even color, also have enough salt and add a teaspoon of dish soap. It is tricky with larger items like pants, you may need a bigger bucket so you can constantly stir them to get an even color. I do like the apple green color which I might have to get next.

Honestly, love the patchy dyed look. I think you did a great job! I did this to white cotton crew socks--it made my life 100x more fun haha. If you want super vibrant colors that don't bleed, I recommend 'fiber reactive' dyes.

I read that when you need to dye stuff, you should use the pre dye that removes the colour first. I also think it's tie dye because I think you are supposed to keep moving it every 20 mins or so. I'm not sure if the soap affected it

When I spoke with a Rit Dye Colour representative, they said that you don't need to use the colour remover unless you're trying to go for a specific colour that is completely different from what you're starting off with or going from dark to light.
For example, I was going to try to go from chocolate brown to a medium grey. Rit said it would be easier if I used the colour remover and then dye it. But it wasn't impossible to change the colour without using the remover. But ended up giving the item to my son who loved the brown, so didn't dye it.

i had the same tie-dye problem on my 1st batch because i didn't constantly mix it. i mixed the 2nd batch around for 30 min and it came out so good! im not sure it will fix the sweatpants and shirt, but maybe try that method the next time you dye clothes!

You should have wet the items before putting them in the dye. The tie dye happens when parts are dry while other parts get wet first.

You need to make sure all the air bubbles are out. Thats why they are not all one color. So next time just keep pushing the clothing down in the dye you will see the bubbles come up. It’s the air that is trapped inside. Maybe next time mix the dye and put clothes in another bucket and and saturated it push air out and let sit.

Wash first with 1tsp - 1tbl dish soap dry to damp then do the dye products
Thank you so for the inspiration haven't done a project like this is a long @$$ time
    Top tip:
Make sure to move fabric frequently fist few min(10-15min) depending on size of load....1 t-shirt (3-5min) make sense?¿
Also, fun tip- free-hand designs with grease pen or q-tip with petroleum jelly wash with dish soap and stake another dye...thank you again

Every one is different techniques. Just do 6 tables spoons of salt whith. Super hot water the hotter the water best results. And make sure to drown your clothes leave it for 1hour 30 minutes. But use really hot water careful don't burn yourself ok.

I’m not sure if you did this or not but I think they probably turned out tye-dye because you are suppose to be constantly stirring the clothes in the dye for at least 30 minutes to even out color, otherwise it can come out patchy like that because the dye will become uneven.

  • @just_me8796

You need to prep, best soak at least overnight in your mordant (salt or soda ash) then put the wet garment into the dye.lucky the pants ended up uniformly patchy.

  • @thecomplexion7524

People have already commented to stir but you also need to know what the fabric it made of, some types of fabric need a different dying technique. For example cotton is easy polyester not so much I can't remember exactly how to dye it but a quick Google search should help 😊

  • @TerryMasri
    @TerryMasri ปีที่แล้ว +1

Lots of trial and error in your methodology. Flying by the seat of your pants sort of speak. A sure way to get inconsistent results. The instructions are clear on the bottle. Why not follow them!
Salt (sodium) is an extremely important part for the necessary chemical bonding of dye to the fabric. Skipping that step will insure the dye fading away after a couple of washes.
The best result to get an even color when dying fabric is to lay fabric flat in a shallow large container and work the dye into the fabric by hand.
