I can genuinely understand why the Sirens are acting off their game because I still don't think they take Punchline seriously as a threat yet. They're acting like they're on their way to take out Calendar Man or something, not a big bad. Which makes sense since I've always gotten the feeling they are treating her like she's having a weird little girl moment since she's younger than them.
I would love to see Pam hate Alexis for burning down that Eden in the sewers during Joker War. IIRC, she actually came across the carnage at one point afterwards and thought Harley did it.
Well said. Honestly I think Pam would've un-alived Punchline back when she attacked Harley. If I was a Super Villain in DC, I would plain avoid attacking anything Pam loves. Anything harming the environment or Harley, would be plain stupid in the DC verse. That said, at least Punchline as a character seems to be better written this time around.
I've gotta be honest, Punchline is really starting to grow on me after all the coverage on this channel. I didn't like her at the start because she was WAY too overpowered and didn't have any sort of backstory or in-canon reason as to why she was so hyper-competent and capable of literally anything; she was almost Mary Sue-ish, and was really annoying and frustrating to read because of it. I've actually really started to like her now that she's been toned down and better defined, and that she's being used more sparingly and isn't being shoehorned into any book the writers could possibly add her into. I wouldn't say that Punchline has become one of my favs, but I can say that I do like her and find her interesting and genuinely like seeing more from her. Thanks for all the Punchline coverage, Sasha, definitely keep it up. 😁
I thought the "Whore" line felt more Mean Girls inspired, with the blunt comedic delivery. Every time I hear it, it's still freakin' funny. That "Punchline Vs. The Gotham City Sirens" works... but I don't like it, because it prompts her up too hard when she hasn't had landing DC wanted, and it reminds me of the debacle of the "Harley Quinn/Birds of Prey" title.

I want the streamer/content creator motif to stick with Punchline forever. It just works so well with her character no matter what category of content creation you put her in.
Not my favourite artist for sure. All of the Sirens got hit hard by the Habsburg jawline in this issue, especially Harley and Ivy. Very boxy faces in general.
It's really a shame they don't do editors notes like they used to. When I was a kid they had notes for days which helped me really get into the lore along with the letters columns and Ask The Answer Man. And they really came in handy when I discovered comic book shops with back issues because bound collections were rare. They started to show up less after the first Crisis.
About Punchline's face makeup: I feel like I always forget that Punchline has a red dot on her nose, unless I'm looking straight at it. And then when I notice, it just looks weird.
I do have questions: If they were going by the idea that White Rabbit was kidnapped because she "tested/tracked well" with Punchline's hottub stream audience, why redesign her costume NOW when having the original would make more sense in this context? Why not redesign it after this is over with as a result of this adventure? And if the answer is that White Rabbit isn't making it out of this story, why bother with a redesign at all? I don't dislike the new look mind you, it just would have made sense with the type of audience who would want her specifically cross with people would would watch Punchline's stream. Also I don't believe that's Perry the Convenience Store clerk, he's not even wearing a Fedora.
I also think it might have something to do with making her costume more appealing to female readers. I do think the GSS comics more than others get a female audience (and White Rabbit is lesser known) this makes her look more appealing for what is likely to be a new female audience.
I for one like that this version of "Social Media Savvy" Punchline doesn't feel as outdated as the previous attempts. And that amazing considering the lengthy process behind making a comic book.
I’ve always wondered but WHY does White Rabbit do what she does? Like why is she dressed as a white rabbit? Why does she do crime? Have they ever explained it? Like if she was a part of the Wonderland gang, it’ll make sense, or do people just pay her to get Batman to chase her in their traps or smth? I love her original outfit, the colours and colour composition are amazingly y2k gta baddie stripper idc I’d wear it too, but WHY a playboy bunny/rabbit hoodie. I hope they actually do something with her character one day cuz her aesthetic and especially her power set have a lot of potential
You know, it would have been interesting if they actually used this character as more than a one-off thing. We could stand to see more of her backstory. Or at least give her something else to do such as team up with the mad hatter and maybe get another sidekick called the March hare...If the writers were going to use Alice in Wonderland allusions, they shouldn't do a half-hearted job
Don't worry, in a few years we'll get her GOATed revamp/extended lore version fighting against an obscure DC character who is having their defining run.
It's honestly surprising how many comic issues are dedicated to just, you know, talking and setting up things with minimal progress. I was reading Krakoa's era volumes and sometimes one series would stop on a issue where it was just characters talking and reappear a whole volume later lol
Trigger Warning might have been clever a few years ago but to me, at least, it feels kind of behind the times. That's going to be a persistent challenge writing a character like unchline, though.
its almost but not quite old enough to be ironically dated, I wonder if itll read better in the next 2-5 years actually, considering the life cycle of ironic use of dated internet slang
I know this is probably off topic but I was wondering why there hasn't been a story where White Rabbit, Alice, Tweedledum and Tweedledee, the Mad Hatter, and the Queen of Hearts (the serial killer not the member of the royal flush gang) ever got together and form a wonderland gang of some type in Gotham.
0:08 that is the most beautiful and interesting industrial post-modern high fashion outfit I've seen being given to Selina on the cover. It fits her perfectly. I love it so much. Straight from the catwalk. That's genius clothing design and I need to know who came up with that. You'd think they hired a creative director or a designer from one of the major fashion houses for that fit.
I like what they're doing with Punchline conceptually. The "murderous e-girl streaming a deadly game" concept is so refreshing and fits her perfectly, but... the art and writing isn't really working for me whatsoever 😭 The ultimate monkey's paw...
It is normal for chaps not to cover the behind, we shouldn't have to specify that. Chaps are not a type of trousers, they are to protect your trousers while you are riding. They don't cover the behind, because the behind is on the saddle and not exposed. If the behind is covered, then they stop being chaps and become leather pants.
I picked this up after the first video My favorite part of the issue was seeing the editors notes and knowing if you made another video how much you would love it lol
I've been reading this and am glad that you mentioned the background on White Rabbit. I read Catwoman and Poison Ivy regularly but not the Batman books so she's totally new to me. I definitely agree that it could have benefitted from a bit more on what her deal is. Other than that, it's been a nice bit of silly fun.
Dunno man why dont batman wear a mask when facing scarecrow? I mean i know theres a in lore reason saying that masks are useless against the fear toxin but man he is batman dude has an armor that can resist punches from gods and he cant create a mask to survive the fear toxin...

It would be a amazing twist if punch line her self is being controlled by the mad hatter the whole time and he is just using her as a proxy for his crimes because this story feels so much more like one of his stories with the mind control and the Alice in wonder land quote.
After the first issue, I was all set to trade buy this book when it was released. But the change in art for this issue has been a total deal-breaker. It's not just a matter of not being a fan of this issue's art style. But with a mini series (especially one that's only four issues ), having one consistent artist feels like it should be a given.
I suppose it could be explained that Harley and Ivy are not susceptible to the mind control drink due to their unique physiology and even Catwoman has something along those lines too given that she's apparently immortal. But that also means they shouldn't have been so easily captured unless they were just faking it in order to infiltrate Punchline's game or whatever.
10:11 Personally I see Harley saying something like: "Pammy how could you?" And being playful over dramatic but honestly it not out there. Post new-52 Harley comics are nothing but vulgar and a bit gross at times.
Honesty the “wh-re” comment tracks, it’s how some of my friends talk to each other. Most of us graduated college last year but I don’t think it has gone out of fashion or anything like that
Punchline is way better as her own villain with her own realm of expertise, that realm being internet culture. She feels very distinct and independent from Harley and Joker now.
If that's the halfway point I don't think the pacing is right at all for a 4 issue mini series. I think #1 should've had all the exposition stuff and ended with them starting to go after Punchline while #2 should've started with them getting captured. That way there would've been more room for the main part of the story. Or just make it 5 issues. It also kinda seems like the comic really wants to keep you guessing and wondering what'll happen next but it's just so flat. Comparing that to the OG sirens title I actually was wondering what the Joker was up to and why he suddendly cared so much about getting Harley back only to be blindsided by Gaggy. That was actually solid. Here it ultimately boils down to a variation of villain poisons the water supply but with energy drinks. Also kinda reminds me of the zombie game Sunset Overdrive.
10:30 It was definitely a bit of a shock but also I could see it being something the more recent more raunchy characterizations of Harley would do. Though l also felt like she'd do it but a little less tactless like a "oooo a little sl×tty", or something a little more friendly Also Parry gives me heavy Roscoe Bosco vibes from Sam and Max
From the sound of it, this video's title should be the actual mini title: _Punchline vs. Gotham City Sirens_ rather than just "Gotham City Sirens." The Sirens aren't getting much individual characterization; they're just guest stars in Punchline's story. And I now see that this has occurred to you too! LOL
Also yeah this series doesn't seem to be touching on harley and punchlines relationship which is weird to me? Punchlines history is so closely entwine with hers
Issue 2 definitely makes the mini feel like a vehicle to make Punchline more of a thing, rather than a Sirens reunion, which sucks. There was a lot in this issue (as you said) that you have to suspend your disbelief for, too much for me. Why is Catwoman suddenly "the tech guy"? Why would Harley Quinn be even mock jealous of a forehead kiss? How is Poison Ivy not immune to the gas Punchline used? Why do the Sirens even care about White Rabbit to begin with? Its just such a stretch, and all of that is easier to get distracted by when there is such a downturn in quality of the art. The artist for Issue 2 seems to have drawn all of the bodies and then drawn the faces in later, making it feel like they are LEGO people that you can just swap out their faces. I assume Ivy was researching XO Punch because of the mind control stuff (since that is kind of her thing outside of plants) and might be worried that Punchline is using and abusing some kind of hallucinogenic plants, but none of that is even alluded to and we're halfway through the mini already. All in all, if this was just DC's way of trying to build Punchline up, I don't think it will work, because it's doing it at the cost of three of their most beloved female characters looking like morons.
It definitely is weird that Harley said whore there. She’s definitely the kinda person who would say it endearingly, if she was like, much younger. A lot of the writing of this kinda puts all of these characters in like that young 20s college age. Which works perfectly for punchline but like doesn’t make sense for the sirens. But this is definitely how Punchline comics should play out. We just gotta figure out who her heroes should actually be
@@seeleunit2000 Well, officially (whatever that means these days at DC) Harley and Ivy are basicly the same age according to Paul Dini's notes on Harley. Based on Harley being a psychiatrist and looking at the average time someone needs to study and stuff to become one we can assume that, if she started college at 18, the youngest she could be is 29 but she's most likely almost in her mid-30s. But approaching things like that logically and with regard to canon and continuity is a fools errand because Batman should be in his early 40s by now and the Joker almost 60 and that's clearly not what DC intendet.
@@potato_oni7597 Oh hey I've seen you commenting on that pirating website... Nice to see you here, wasn't expecting it lol Anyway in the Harley Quinn run by Tini Howard it says she's 30, which is very ??? but I guess it's canon now!
This channel made me a Punch Line fan. Im conflicted with her doing rhe hottub streamer thing. It makes it hard to convince people shes a cool character and not just a thirst trap, but it does work perfect for the character.
This is both some of the stronger Leah Williams - fun ideas in a fun way - and the weaker one - stupid jokes that waste time. I have to say, I didn't even realize the artist changed when I first read the two issues back to back. Also, I have to say, one of the things about Leah Williams that is relatively consistent is she does like to play with sexy characters, and not lecture about gazes.
You raise some really good points about the issues with this comic. But I can't say I noticed them since I'm reading entirely for Punchline and her sections are quite strong.
The "wh*re" line does feel a touch weird. I can see Harley saying it, but not to Poison Ivy (based on how I view their relationship). It is commonly said in my friend group as a term of endearment.

Though l also felt like she'd do it but a little less tactless like a "oooo a little sl×tty", or something a little more friendly
Also Parry gives me heavy Roscoe Bosco vibes from Sam and Max
"No soup for you", takes me back. Loved it.
I don't know why but when I think of a person who could play punchline in live-action it think madison beer
Taylor Swift?
"Putting on some 'behindless' chaps... for reasons."
Oh Sasha, you know it wouldn't be a raunchy Leah Williams book without bakery's worth of cake!
I'm not a big fan of the art in this issue, but I'm never opposed to some cake 😁
kinda wish we were getting a The Stuff miniseries instead.
We just gotta figure out who her heroes should actually be
To be fair, we don't know how old Harley is or Ivy and Harley is known for not acting her age
Nice to see you here, wasn't expecting it lol
Anyway in the Harley Quinn run by Tini Howard it says she's 30, which is very ??? but I guess it's canon now!
I like how white rabbit joined the team
This channel made me a Punch Line fan. Im conflicted with her doing rhe hottub streamer thing. It makes it hard to convince people shes a cool character and not just a thirst trap, but it does work perfect for the character.
It feels like the artist drew Punchline a lot sexier and then editorial went back and de-curved her.
I haven't watched the video yet, I'm too mesmerized. This look is just giving everything!
3:39 Sasha please voice Alfred for a cartoon sone time.
Punchline got a “Hank Hill” situation going on back there.
You raise some really good points about the issues with this comic. But I can't say I noticed them since I'm reading entirely for Punchline and her sections are quite strong.
What is the over:under that Punchline is going to end up a Gotham City Siren somewhere down the line?
"It also features something wonderful: an editor's note." Things like this make me feel understood.
Please do an episode on Batman the Brave and the Bold Gentleman Ghost next.
I’ve got it! XO Punch is derived from the Purple Man!
Dang it... you've made me want to get this series. LOL
If it sounds up your alley, you should do it!!
The "wh*re" line does feel a touch weird.
I can see Harley saying it, but not to Poison Ivy (based on how I view their relationship).
It is commonly said in my friend group as a term of endearment.
Nice catch on the Morrison homage
Zorn lord Alfred in a bathrobe about to search through smut to help Bruce find one of his villains and Bruce smiling about it isn’t something I’d ever think of happening. But man is it funny
