The author being alumni from Battletech/Mechwarrior novels hits a spot for me. In a very real way its how I got into sci-fi but the stories that address the Inner Sphere/Clan (Capitalist/Communist) aspect directly always felt a bit off. A subtle version of "Blue Dawn"
Hey, An American Carol is already a David Zucker movie. It's got both Kelsey Grammer and Leslie Nielsen. I was tricked into watching it thinking it was a comedy. It's about trying to get Michael Moore to be a Republican.

@@FakeSchrodingersCat stackpole is cool actually!
If Stackpole had gone to the dark side, I'd lose my shit. I have everything he's ever written.
Nah, Stackpole's a gem. Met him at Adepticon this year and he's one of the kindest, most down-to-earth people I've ever spoken with.
@@einherjarvalk Which is why I was worried, I mean I never saw Card going down that route either. But luckily it was a professional fan fiction writer I don't care about instead.
Aw fudge, and like wasn't Robert talking about finally being able to sleep well barely a couple of episodes ago?
Sounds like this one's been in the tank for a while. They say they're recording the day after Trump got convicted at 1:08
God that feels like a lifetime ago.
Tbf, his job is to constantly deep dive into the history of why the world sucks and the bastards responsible for it... I get it
I just assume he an unreliable narrator in regard to his ongoing issues in his own life.
I'm not 100% sure this episode is current. They mentioned Trump had just been convicted of 34 felonies but that happened a while ago now.
@@TheIyiytShow It was probably recorded earlier as a backup or maybe planned to be released now from the start. But it wasn't recorded recently, that's for sure.
It feels like the author wrote this story in crayon after tasting every color to make sure they weren't woke.
I was trying to finish a calculus assignment while listening to this and I had to stop because I just kept laughing out loud so hard XD "social quarantine" and "Newmerica" caused me to crack up.
No one would call the country Newmerica i mean look at how people talk about Twitter.
Every conservative protag has such a corny macho name that it could have been pulled from a MST3K bit...Jack Desmond? Flint Ironstag, Slab Bulkhead, Slate Fistcrunch.

Some of them could double as porn names, it's true.
Combat General Brett Hawthorne
Thunk Hellfist

I'm not surprised that their books don't sell well. Pushing books to conservatives is an endeavor doomed to fail 😅
I literally totalled my car while listening to this.
nice
I used to work with Pardoe! I forgot he wrote this thing. I should note, for the record, that he was fired from the BattleTech brand for being a transphobe.
More completely, he was taken off the writer's list for being a total jerk to a trans fan, and is now claiming he was "cancelled." He had been given every opportunity to behave, but just could not stop himself.
I'm ironically beginning to love these liberal dystopias written by right-wing boomers. Need a second season of HBO's Watchmen.
Proud to be a Newmerican because at least I know I'm free! 🤣

I used to work with a guy who runs an alt-right blog, and wrote a dogshit novel through one of those vanity press publishers. He totally could have been this guy.
Sorry, did Unatco HQ send in JC to hunt down the NSF and recover the Ambrosia?
0:55 Do not my friends become addicted to right wing novels
I think reading about _Left Behind_ cured me of that.
@@akizeta Man that is a sires I have not read in a loooong time, it was...something, and reallllyyyy long
@@akizeta Blaine Lee Pardoe collaborated with Mel Odom on a BattleTech novel, so there's that. (It was decades ago, to be fair.)
Looking forward to listenting to this one but I just want to point out if you google "Blue Dawn" the otehr thing that shows up besides this book is dish soap
This is the funniest book I've heard about in a long time, that's hysterical
This is reminding me of an ad I remember seeing on my Kindle back during the 2016 leadup that was basically "dystopian ultra-liberal matriarchy because Hillary" but with the names changed. Never bothered to take a closer look at it, and not regretting that decision.
The Sons of Liberty? I know it was a real historical secret org, but my head canon is that after he will be done with his real life prison sentence for participating in the 2021 Capitol attack, Jon Schaffer of Iced Earth will have converted his music band project of the same name into a paramilitary group and that's what they are talking about in this book.
Sounds like the Turner Diaries for an audience too young to remember the Turner Diaries
I love that the author is thinking about a VERY SPECIFIC kind of collapsable ladder that I bought once and can concertina out from 1m to 5m, which is cool, and this ladder is a horrific finger-trap in every other way.
Holy projection, Batman!
Someone should show these writers Metal Wolf Chaos, it would be fascinating to see how the respond to the fight house.
In Numerica we salute like this 🤘

Quasi-Hispanic, the Hunchback of Boyle Heights
I remember like a decade ago a college acquaintance was trying to get my friends and I to watch a movie called An American Carol, but the way he described it made it sound like it was the Christmas Carol plot but from the point of view of Michael Moore or something like that. Maybe I'm remembering it wrong, but I like to believe there are two right-wing shlock stories with the same exact title and nearly the same premise.
no, you are remembering right. the movie came out in 2008, the book came out in 2022 and isn't connected, as far as I can tell (aside from the fact that they're both based on a book that's in the public domain). the author bio is fascinatingly cringey and worth looking up on defiance press' website.
4:35 Robert, there's still mania around Barack (and Michelle, for some reason).
And isn't there already a movie called An American Carol? It was like making fun of Michael Moore.
Can’t get over how the commie Newmerican hospitals all switch their name to just numbers- meanwhile I am living in literally China and hospitals are named after where they are and what they do. You know, like hospitals everywhere, because it turns out having a name like that helps people find them 💀😂
I also have to say, I was not prepared for Battletech people to roll this hard for BtB.
Me neither, everyone’s coming out of the woodwork! Any fellow Capellan Enjoyers in the comments?
The background of battletech is "Every major power is run by ruthless bastards who almost nuked humanity into the stone age and the only good people are insane or were also bastards."
This is our Bread Butter and Jam
You might be interested in the book 'Vril: The Coming Race', a hidden-civilization, hollow-earth scifi novella from 1871. The book itself is not very engaging, but what is worth checking out is the way it lead to the creation of "Vril societies" aiming to create a new superhuman race (you can guess where that went). And the "energy force" of vril still crops up in all sorts of places today, from food products to videogames. If you want to get scammed, you can even buy vril-meters online now.
Gotta love those 30 minute cold opens
Hey, An American Carol is already a David Zucker movie. It's got both Kelsey Grammer and Leslie Nielsen. I was tricked into watching it thinking it was a comedy. It's about trying to get Michael Moore to be a Republican.
Try 'Trigger Warning' by William W Johnston 😂😂
Oh, God. I didn't know it was written by Pardoe. I loved his Battletech stuff, it's some of the best in the franchise. But his conservative worldview came into conflict with Catalyst Game Labs (rights holders of Battletech, owned by one of the other primary authors of the franchise) and they let him go, then he went full MAGA.
"We didn't go after innocent people. Innocent people have nothing to fear." - A liberal Communist Fascist Social Enforcement Agent in fiction, also a real sentiment often stated by actual conservatives, fascist or otherwise, in the real world for the past several years.
Why is some no name two floors under ground while the president is getting shelled? 😂😂
I've replayed the bit at 57:00 countless times, so damn funny
I hope this gets adapted to all mediums, it's so funny
You know An American Carol was also a film, right?
Me, having gone to Booker T. Washington high school, hearing the line about banning all school names with Washington in them - this guy really doesn't know much about black history does he.
This book has a 4.6/5 on Amazon 😭
That's... I don't like this timeline lol
@@CatalystOfFire That's because no one knows about it.
In my version of a Red Dawn scenario, a recently-elected far-right President declares martial law just days after his inauguration, unleashing the military against Democrats, POC, the LGBTQ+ community, and other "enemies of the people", with "assistance" from Russian advisors. Molly Ringwald plays the Harry Dean Stanton character.

oh no, not boling, i was stationed at anacostia annex, why they hate the ceremonial guard?
I’m using Newmerica from now on.

Did you ever do a book ep on the Cowboy who got shot by the FBI, LaVosier or something? He was involved with the Buddy’s and I think he was at Malheur, and he tried to pull a gun on agents. But, it turns out he wrote a fictional book about the revolution or something. Anyway, something might exist and it may be findable. I remember Wonkette did a feature on it.

Theres a lot of projection going on. And yes when i over hear fox news, i get mad too, but not because i believe what they are saying, like the "author". I get mad, because other people believe that crap.
