Over the years, I have tried various resin techniques and experimented with different products, but this one stands out as the most lucrative. Not only does it produce stunning results, but it has also consistently generated the most revenue for me. Looks great. One thing I would say, and I have created a lot of metallic powder finishes over the years, is it would be more practical and cheaper all round to do it a different way. Just pour the powder into the mould giving a good tap all over. Tip the excess powder out of the mould leaving the surface coated with powder. Mix the blackened resin and pour in. When set, wire wool to the same effect. You use a fraction of the powder because all the powder below the surface is wasted and never touched, and it is very expensive. If it is weight you need in it, you can put some nuts and bolts, or similar into the mould. You can give depth to the detailing by mixing up an oil based paint, painting the entire surface. When dry, wire wool again leaving the details and shadows in contrast. I then spray a fixative to seal the surface.

But bubbles! If you don't brush the resin into the crevices, you might get bubbles. But if you only put the metallic powder on the surface of the mold, it will get scraped away as you vigorously brush the resin in... I think the powder coated mold works best for simple molds that don't have tons of nooks and crannies... idk! I would try three trial casts. One using the mixed metallic powder and brush method, one with powder coated mold and brushed resin, and one with powder coated mold and carefully poured resin... that seems like the most scientific way to handle the question.
I think there’s a difference between metallic powder and bronze powder. Bronze powder is actual ground up bronze, unlike metallic powder or mica. The bronze powder has to be at the surface so it can be burnished with the steel wool, and it’s added to give weight and heft, so it feels like hot cast bronze. This is essentially 60% bronze and 40% resin. It’s a genius method. Now I’m searching where to find powdered copper and bronze.

This looks amazing! I'd really recommend using the steel wool wet, and even with a bit of soap on it. The steel dust is such a mess when dry.

One really interesting engineering problem I worked on was casting tiles that I wanted to come out feeling like stone, like polished granite. It took me about a year of trial and error, but I did eventually nail down a process for it, though it required a pressure pot, some practice, and infill media of precisely the right particle size and density. But the end result was that the pieces came out looking looking and feeling like CNCed granite tiles. They also had that sort of conductive coolness at the touch you associate with stone. I'm very pleased.
Hot tip. When showing a dark object avoid using a white background.

Consider polishing up the entire piece and then oxidizing it. Once oxidized, you go back and nock the oxide of the high spots where it would naturally be handled. Would look incredible. Oh, if you don't forget to spray a clear coat to keep the polished bits from re-oxidizing.

Do you not powder the mould with the bronze powder first? I always do this. You save on how much powder you use and it’s a strong concentration of metal on the surface

Have you considered throwing that in a rock tumbler for a little while for a more uniform polish? It might lose the artificial antique look, but I'd be curious to see the results.

I have years old unmixed resin that's turned urine yellow, but should still work. Need solid, non-transparent projects like this to use it up.

Question: I want to apply a thin layer of slightly soft/bendable resin to a thin metal hooped earring. What kind of resin should I use? Should I dip or brush it on?

Not all but I notice certain black mica powers always makes resin cure fast. I use these mica powers to get a particular look and they cure so fast, like in 20 to 30 minutes

Yes. I use aluminium for silver, and brass for gold. Copper also turns out nicely. Technically this should work with any metal that is softer than the steel of the steel wool.

I love your videos and have learned sooooo much. I was wondering if you could do a video on notebook covers. I’ve searched for videos and they are very old and don’t give much information. I was wondering if using a UV resin would work since it’s a shallow pour. Would epoxy resin be better? Please help…and thank you for doing these information videos

I imagine it would be cost effective to use a cheaper, yet equally as heavy, metal for the inner resin mixture. 🤔
