      My wife and I really enjoy the videos you and your wife do. We just bought our first class A after two bumper pulls and a 5th wheel. It's an entry level gasser with some pretty basic, analog controls. Seeing the touch screen in your wet bay was pretty inspiring. I'd love to pick your brain to see how I could do something like that in my rig, or see if it's even possible.

      We welcome constructive criticism Rob and take it very seriously, but when you direct a snarky comment to other watchers and not to the content provider, don’t be surprised if you get a similarly snarky response (or no response at all). A lot of work goes into providing free content on youtube, and I think more and more content providers are dropping out because of how bad the trolls have gotten. Please come be part of the conversation, but try to do it in a way that helps everyone watching including the content provider. Unless your point was to frustrate and discourage, if that was the plan then stick with your current attitude, its spot on.

      That's exactly what I was trying to do - let you know that when you entice a person's curiosity with a claim - In this case an improved answer to a very unpleasant chore - but then jump into a review of a bunch of other garbage - it tends to immediately give your intended audience a bad taste in their mouth...like you don't respect my time or something.
      If you're only interested in "Gee Whiz" responses.....or if you frankly don't care for the feedback - that's perfectly OK. It's your channel. Bottom line is, you were given constructive criticism. You got side tracked and didn't get to the point fast enough. Sorry if it wasn't the feedback you want/appreciate.

      @@ronlawrence5021 thanks Ron, we really appreciate the reply. Did you see the screen pop up in the beginning stating the timecode to jump forward to for the actual unboxing and review? Perhaps we could have placed that better or maybe you missed since it wasnt up long enough? Regardless, I can't tell you how many folks reach out to us as noobs to RV'ing who really appreciate the backstory on the "old product" or in this case the "traditional sewer hose" before they can really understand what the pros/cons of any new product would be. The watchers RVing experience level really comes into play here, and since we can't "add more content" we elect to include more and let folks skip ahead if they are more experience. In this particular video's case we also just got married so our channel has been dark for about 3 months so we also wanted to tell folks what was on the horizon. Not trying to be a wise guy or anything; but why do i want to go to the expense ($250-$400+) and possible a electrical fail ? why would I go to this vs my old tried & true hose system??? The chemical additive to my black tank pretty much disengrates everything. A quick rinse with the gray water dump & most places have a hose with fresh water to complete the rinse. Given no one waiting behind me I usually flush the black tank with clean water at the dump station for about 10 minutes as well. My hose fits in the bumper and after 3 years has no issues. Am I missing something ?

    • @LivinliteNet1
      @LivinliteNet1  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      All good points. For us the idea of saving a full bin of cargo space, pumping uphill and not having to do anything other than twist a hose cap off and insert the handle into the park system was worth the time and expense involved. That said, our standard setup worked great and was a lot cheaper with fewer parts to fail. Time will tell! Thanks for the comments.

    • @herb7877
      @herb7877 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LivinliteNet1 Appreciate the reply. I knew about the pumping uphill but have not been faced with that but one time. Curred it by pulling out a few leveling blocks and rolled over them. Most dump stations are built to a downhill configuration. As we all know ; human affluent doesn’t flow up hill. I thought you were just trying to ‘grind’ it up before it went down the pipe. When I had a Class A; I use to go thru the same process as above but instead of a bumper to store it, I placed it in a capped PCV pipe attached to the bottom of the rear bumper brackets. The elbow in a zip lock plastic bag stored in the basement storage. Again, thank you.

      @coddiwomplerv3755 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @Cw Sayre while I see the point of not needing it for "standard" FHU situations there are times this system can be a go to.
      Another TH-cam video showed it idea for situations where no sewer was available. This individual pumped it up into a tank in the bed of his pickup and then hauled his waste to a dump station.
      It was a perfert solution for those situations.

    • @LivinliteNet1
      @LivinliteNet1  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@herb7877 thanks Herb, its such a tough topic because I agree with everyone that the standard solution is a great one and has so many less parts to fail. Its similar to the conversations I used to have with folks about power windows and door locks in cars. "that will just break!" and often it did. Alas the faster, more convenient solution won out though, and now I dont think you can buy much of any base model car without those features. After having the system for another month my feedback would be that the convenience is the primary win here. We park, open the bay door, unscrew a cap and place a handle in sewer and thats it. There is nothing more to do (well open the black tank and hit a switch but we had to do that anyway). Is that convenience worth 350 bucks? Thats not for me to answer as everyone has different opinions on what is worth $$. One positive is that I haven't accidentally banged my head on an extended room slide in 2 months which used to always happen when I was setting up the traditional system going back and forth with all those hoses/extension and bins! I guess thats a positive! Thanks again for your comments/replies. Hope to see you on future videos.

      This is a viable solution if you are at a full service RV park while dumping your tank at your slot but not an option if you boondock or have to dump at dump a station. no one is going to put up with waiting in line while you fill a 40 gallon tank at a dump station then re-dump to clean your hose. After having it now for 2-3 months the reason for this really comes down to convenience. We can setup the sewer in less than 15 seconds now. We open the door, grab the hose, unscrew the cap, plug it into the sewer and walk away. Is that worth 500+ bucks? Thats not for us to decide but so far we are really happy with the solution. One thing I've noticed NOT ONE has reported to ever wishing to go back to using a black tank. One channel "Gone with the Winns" put one in their Class A and when they sold that and bought a New Class A they put their old toilet back into their old RV and moved their composing toilet into their brand new Class A RV. Interesting. Our Roadtrek had a macerator system from the factory. After having it operate sporadically (mostly not operating) I easily converted it to a regularl gravity dump. I think it was about $30 in parts from Home Depot. Gravity has never let me down and no more macerator problems. KISS method!
    Edit: Oh, I forgot to mention I purchased the Flo Jet macerator system for my 40 foot Class A. I have used it just a few times. It pumps things for a while until the motor gets too warm and the thermal switch inside the motor stops it until it cools down which takes some time. All the while you are sitting there with your hose in your hand (pun intended) waiting for it to start back up. Having 100 gallon holding tanks (each) means alot of hose holding. LOL! Needless to say it was kind of a PITA. One note is that in 15 years of full timing, I never specifically NEEDED a macerator. The standard gravity dump empties the holding tanks fast. The macerator sits there pumping away (until it overheats of course). Just food for thought.

      The pump you had was too small and poorly designed and poorly made. This guy said it emptied in about 90 seconds so this will not heat up or cut out. I think the hose size was smaller than the standard drain hose but bigger than a garden hose so drains faster than a garden hose yet not as bulky as the gravity drain. I liked it and though it was a good design but don't know if I could afford it.

    You are still handling a sewer hose if you are dumping a black holding tank. I see no advantage to this $350++ system vs my $200 Flo-Jet or a $25 buck slinky.. My Flo-Jet will use a cheap 5/8' or as I'm using, a good 3/4" hose and up to 50 feet though it will pump at least 100 feet. Maybe if you have a mid six figure up motor home and the manufacturer built it in - OK,. As an add on to any towed RV - wont work.

      Hey JD, we'll probably do another video soon showing the day to day use of this. Its much easier than the flow jet or traditional style hose, so far we are really happy. Grab by handle, unscrew cap, pop in campground sewer connection, shut door, walk away. No bins, no unions, no ladders (depending on your preference) and done.. We want to wait a few more months just to be 100% sure there aren't any gotchas but so far we are really happy.

    I too have looked at a macerator and ended up with the Sewer Solution. Have used this for over 6 years and has never let me down. Slow, yes, but when you have to pump 70 feet and a little up hill and it gets the job done, I'm alright with that! Do I use it all the time, NO!, but when I need it, it works! Also cleans out the hose with fresh water to boot and no mess involved. No electric, only one basic moving part, the lever to control the stream of water and no issues!

    What’s so hard about dumping and flushing the black tank? That Rube Goldberg contraption looks unnecessarily complicated which means prone to problems.
    Glad I have an 07 Phaeton without fussy unnecessary electronics, DEF, unreliable touchscreens.
    I never turn my back on anything dealing with filling/dumping tanks. What is the purpose of this thing? To mince your poop while you walk away to have a cocktail while you’re trusting this thing not to clog/leak while you’re watching your iPhone? I never turn my back on liquids. I can spare 15-20 min watching and overseeing the process. The only time I’ve had problems was when I turn my back on some device that bears watching.

      They haven't yet figured out how to simply make the waste "disappear" so yes there is an exit system of some sort in any system (yes even with composting you'll be hauling out trash bags full of peet moss). I do have my hopes up for the Star Trek transporter system that will magically transport matter from one location to another some day though. "beam it out scotty!" Sadly our understanding of physics wont allow this just yet!

Like many good ideas, it disdappeared.

    At the risk of coming off as the Newbie I am, can someone explain the sequence of dumping both the gray and black water when using a macerator? I have not owned an RV for 20 years and am not familiar with dumping with a macerator. Specifically, assuming all valves are closed (black, gray and main valve) when I dump with a macerator, do I remove the fitting for use with a water hose and put the macerator hose in the dump at the RV park, open the black valve using the macerator hose and macerator, dump the gray water using the macerator pump and hose then close then close the black valve after flushing with water? Do I use the traditional sewer hose at all if I leave the macerator hose hooked up to dump gray water?

    Apparently, this vid was not made for newbies...like me. 1. What the hell is a macerator? Is it a blender/grinder of sorts for used toilet paper & poop? If so, that maybe should have been explained at the beginning. 2. Years ago, I had a very compact porta-potty that I used sometimes when camping. There are packets of eco-friendly chemicals that can be placed in the bottom of such toilets; those chemicals break down the waste in a relatively short time. Instead of the macerator, why not just flush one of those packets down the toilet once in awhile, or cut it open & pour the contents down? They also would deodorize the tank. That seems a lot simpler & much less costly than everything you just went through, eh?
    Happy Trails

      We would never recommend a product just because we got it for free. Lets be honest a video where we didn’t recommend or where something went wrong would get a lot more views! This is our honest opinion of the unit and so far its been a much easier to use solution that is faster (setup and breaking camp), eliminated all need for dealing with hose bayonet fittings and is working great. There is no denying the potential long term maintenance issues of a more complex system but I think its fair to ask why these are being installed on every high end coach if they don’t work. Its because once you use them, you definitely see the benefits but again, we never said the time tested hose was bad! Actually we said the opposite! Thanks for watching!
