    Wind direction wasnt right that day, meaning debris wouldnt be washed out on the shored - meaning no amber. So this day i tried to go fossil hunting and was successfull!:)

    Great video. I am always happy to see a notification that you have posted a new video. I am always looking forward to them. Love the Ice Age fossils. Amazing to see how the ocean can bring up the past and lay it right at our feet. Nice bunch of amber too. Not bad for a casual stroll on the shore line. Stay safe.

    The piece of rock you found at 16:00 and smashed afterwards with your pick, pretty sure that was flint (titnagas)! It tends to look black, glossy, concave-ish with parts of it white or brown (but not always). I used to found loads of it on gravel roads. Also, stumbled upon your vids from r/palentology while just checking to see if there are any good places to find fossils in Lithuania, loving your content so far! I've never even thought of looking for amber with an UV light at night either, that's certainly creative. Will stick around for more for sure ;)

    • @Amberscape
      @Amberscape  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ah i see i have few of these at home - its not considered fossil is it?

    • @tauragnas2838
      @tauragnas2838 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Amberscape Nope, not a fossil, it's just a form of quartz. People in the stone age used it to make various prehistoric tools or even weapons (like tipping arrows with flint arrowheads). You can also use it to start fire with steel. It's still a cool find, flint is pretty neat!

    • @Amberscape
      @Amberscape  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ahh its uncommon? Il keep an eye on it next time:)

      @@Amberscape Not at all :D It's pretty common actually. I have a few in my home on display too just because they look cool. You can find them pretty much anywhere, but mostly on gravel roads, cliffs, sea or river beaches. The one you found on the beach was pretty big :)

    Thank you for the cool video! When I go to the beach at the North Sea fossil shells are the only fossils I ever find, I think it is really cool that you just find relatively large mammal bones just lying there!!
    The shell you showed at 24:52 is very similar to some of which I have collected a lot. I think it is a fossil from the genus Unio, which is a fresh water mussel! So in the Ice Age, the sea level was much lower and fresh water rivers flowed where there is now sea (and the mammals whose bones you found lived on the land which is now sea). So when shells that lived in the river died they sank to the bottom and fossilised and now because of erosion these fossil fresh water shells end up on the sea shore! I hope you have more nice finds on the next episode! :D

      I havent seen any fossil shell/gastropod would love to find atleast one:D

    • @Amberscape
      @Amberscape  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Those bones was washed out after the storm:), baltic sea was formed 13000years ago when last ice age was, and glaciers went trough that location that burried everything and left a hole where see formed now, so these bones from the bottom of the see i think has to bee atleast 13000years old:)

      Waiit you think that shell is fossilised? Its quite heavy but it feels like it would break easily, i didnt think is fossilised hmmm

    • @Alrik.
      @Alrik. 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Amberscape yes that is what I thought. I am no expert though, but just know that the ones I find (again in the North Sea, not Baltic..) are fossils, because I have also found "fresh" ones at a river here and the fossil ones are more heavy and grey.
      Maybe you could ask an expert at a natural history museum near you?

    Tip, anything that’s black is 10k or older, think about teeth, the new ones are white, same with bone, and there’s colorful replacements too.

    • @Amberscape
      @Amberscape  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      But after drying put these bones got lighter, darkish brown color:\ so
      Im not sure if they are fossilised after all:(
