Here is a link to that reflective tape: amzn.to/3xfQWQU
What is the name of the mount you've got on your RC 2? And what software do you use on your computer to edit your shots?
Great tip on the reflective tape but for those without a license ..would addiing lots of the tape take the drone over 249 ?
Does this tape keep birds away?
@@davesimons3555 , yes , reflective tape is normally heavy, I have a mini 2, draw eyes on it with a marker or look online for stickers that are eyes you can stick on it, it sounds silly but birds quit bothering me after I did this.
My wife and I started a small drone company as a "retirement hobby". Don't care if we make a profit, just doing it for fun mostly taking nature videos here in Alaska. You've helped us so much with your videos. Can't thank you enough.
You never know till you try.
What do you mean by drone company? Like you sell drones?
@@vishwanath-ts No, we do drone footage. For realtors, weddings, marketing, events, stock photo and video. Maybe someday we'd look into doing more like inspections, 3D mapping, etc. But for now just basic video and photography.
@@MactanDrone Great to hear.
Draw eyes on your drones, I used a magic marker and drew a set of eyes on the front and back of my drones. It sounds silly , but most birds have excellent vision. Since I put the eyes on them I’ve had zero bird encounters. Another good tip is if any bird starts being aggressive toward your drone, come to a stop and as soon as forward movement has stopped hit the throttle and go straight up. This is something no bird can do and when they see the drone doing it does make them stop chasing and diving at your drone. I have not had to use the vertical flight method since I put the eyes on my drones. Barn swallows are as bad as gulls when your near their barn, the eyes even worked on them.
Another great tip for birds being aggressive with the drone is to fly straight up as soon as they are starting to be a pest. 1. Birds can't fly up as fast as the drone. 2. Usually predators to birds come from above so they see it above them and get scared away
Having an extra SD card in your bag at ALL TIMES is a life saver. Definately a pro tip right there in and of itself!
Ordered my mini 4 and ordered a sd for the controller and one for the drone. I guess if something happened, I’d pull the card from the controller and plug it into drone.
Awesome breakdown as usual, brother! Thanks for all you do for the drone community.
Your tips are gold! I always turned off subject scanning because the screen seemed littered with little rectangles. It will make grabbing the thing I want to track much easier. I'm glad to know that it works better too. I never noticed the blue/green dot before. I will try that next time I fly too. Thanks!
Great video as always. I can't remember where I saw it, but cruise control is great for steady footage. Especially if you want a video of you coming and going through the scene. I've set the C1 button for cruise control and you can just point it in the direction you want it to fly, get it going and hit the C1 button. That way you can keep your hands at your side and it will look a little more natural as your moving though the scene.
Again a perfect informative video. Thanks for sharing with us.
Some GREAT tips. Thank you so much.
Cheers Russ! Great practical tips and reminders. It's clarified a couple things for me. 👍 BTW, I saw Brett's clip a little while ago and gave it a try after some near misses with ravens and large native birds that travel in huge flocks down here in Sydney,Australia. I've used the all red tape over the striped and so far, 🤞 they've noted the drone and flown by.
Take care and continuing to think of your wife, you and family.
All the best
Kaz
Great tips, thanks, really admire your channel
I had ordered flamboyant skins before because of the bird threat and it was very expensive. Visibility for me has also been an issue too, so I used yellow tape for rear aspect marking. The reflective tape is an all around great idea and I just order it......thanks for the tips. Great video!
Hey Russ, you always provide good information thanks hope everything‘s going well with the family
Useful tips. Thanks Russ!
That’s for a very informative video! 👍
Wtih regards to the tape there are two possible issues from what I've noticed:
- reflective tapes are metallic, so it can make the signal reception a bit funky (less so if only applied to the body of Mini4)
- Mini 4 is really pushing the 249g weight barrier, so adding anything to it can take it over the legal limit and potentially cause trouble
Well thank you Russ. Kind of you to explore these drones and their capabilities. I don’t have the 4 yet, but I’ll return here and get up to speed a lot faster no doubt. Time is money, so thanks for the donation (smile).
Great tips! Thanks
These are great! I only have the Mini and Mavic 3 Pros, but some of these tips are universal. I fly near the lake 90% of the time, so gulls are a huge issue for me. Ordering some tape now!
Excellent, thanks fo sharing.
Reflective tape, interesting tip... must try it.
This was a helpful set of tips. Thank you!
From Denmark: Thx so much for your excellent and high content tutorials. Happy Eastern. 👍
Ive got orange luminous tape on mine it helps at the coast, Nice vlog good info.
So glad I found you and your video. I'll be looking at/for more. I am veery much a novice and just got a Mini 4 Pro. This video was perfect!! Thank you
Great tips there, thank you.
Great. Well done. Thx for these Hacks.
Thanks for share all this information
Thanks 51 for adding these great tips
Cap cut is so good another great tip
I had to subscribe to your channel so interesting
Great tips again Russ, thank you.
Blue dot, green dot - whoooah!
Looking forward to the gulls and tape experiment! :)
I'll have to try out that bird one. Thank you for the tips
yes thats neat
What a really good and helpful video, thank you. Love how you made it simple and clear. Great work and now subscribed.
Very nice, Russ. Thank you.
On the mini 2 have the similar guide to locate the drone and guide it to home point by clicking the attitude box on the bottom left side and change it to the maps and it will show the position of the drone and there's a line attached to the home point and drone and the only thing is to point the drone towards the "H" and push forward and follow the line - is the fastest direct way back to "H"
Thank you very much for the valuable tips, they will make all the difference for me!
Great video❤
you always have very informative videos🙂
Speaking of gear, I got my Symik case recently and love it! My goal is to modify it slightly by standing up the charging hub (removing some lower foam) and installing a weather proof USB-C connector so I can charge my batteries without having to remove them. Other than that, love the case!
Awesome!
Thanks for the tip about attaching to the mini4 pro and for me it attaching other end to my samsung s23. i was always taking out my micro sd .
Thanks for sharing. Can wait for Spring.
I fly nearly every day even when its freezing outside. One of his videos talks about flying your drone from inside your car. So I am warm and comfortable why enjoying myself. Have tried flying from inside my home, but this drastically lowers the range.
Super helpful. Thank e
Following you from Sweden 😎
Pretty cool vid. All these tips are also applicable to the Air 3 as well. All the same features. I have red reflextive tape on my drone. was attacked once before I put it on,
and never since....
Thanks again for another informative video Russ. We haven't heard an update on your wife which I understand that is a personal situation. I have been praying for her and your family. I hope all is well and may God bless yall!
Thank you! She is doing quite well, thanks for asking. Surgery in a couple months.
@@51DronesGood luck to her and continued strength for her, you and the kids.
Thank you so much
1:34 Thank you for the tips! I now keep an SD Card in the Remote Controller which is great for storing screen recordings and if i need an sd card for the drone when I forget to put the card back in.
Really good advice. 👍👍
I have never heard of red reflective tape to keep birds away. But it's worth a try, I hope it works for you. Thanks for sharing
Wow, you just saved me with the subject tracking. I got into drones because I have a cat, that loves to climb trees, and he wears an Insta360 go 3. So I wanted a 3rd person vuew to switch to in editing. But it wouldn't track him for long. I think this will work. If You want to have some fun then start flying around inside the canopy of trees with obstacle avoidance off 😂 it holds your skills really fast!
That's cool!
Great tips! Here is an add-on to your direct file transfer tip. I just connected my Mini 4 Pro to my Samsung Galaxy Note20 Ultra via USB-C cable and was able to transfer photos and videos directly! In addition to direct laptop transfer I'm going to keep this in my back pocket.
Thanks, good tips! Subscribed. I didn't realize that you could do direct transfer power off, good to know. Looks like u are in the 716 I would love to do some silo city missions.
Hi Russ,
Your first comment re subject tracking is great. I might check that out on my Air 2 to see if that too (three 2's = six! :) ) behaves this way.
🙃🤠
very useful. thank you
I’ve lost 3 drones to bird attacks. A crow faced off against a P4P, a Pelican EVO2p, and a bald eagle with my Inspire2, resulting in total losses. I now have a roll of reflective tape that I must utilize.
Oh wow! Sorry to here Eric!
Do you find the reflective tape to work in your experience?
@@in_significant Still waiting to test it.
@@51Drones sounds good. Keep us posted. I’m interested.
More importantly your should understand the reasons behindwhy you think reflective tape would possibly work on an animal with no headlights.
Russ, Great tutorial!
Thanks!
What edit app did you mention at the end, CapCut? Already liked and subscribed.
Great video Russ. I wish DJI would add that home point "H" display on the mini 2 and mini 3 as well with a software update. I love that feature.
It really is useful!
Great video. Very educational. You should do a follow up video about the red tape. Thanks
Agreed. I hope it works; especially for all those who are going to buy it straight away without even knowing if it works for Russ.
THANK YOU.
Thanks for the tips Russ, they are all very good! I never knew about the homepoint turning green that is awesome! I often get confused regarding the logs? A while back I watched another video that claims HLG is best?
Great video.
You can also quick transfer your photos/videos over WiFi through the DJI fly app straight to your device, useful if you want to show off your footage in a hurry before editing.
Yep. I do that often.
Thanks for another informative video, I was wondering what monitor you were using on your controller in this video? I have 4 DJI drones, but started using the Mini 4 Pro for most of my flying. I have the CrystalSky 7.85" Ultra-Bright Drone Monitor but have not used it lately becuase I broke my super nice bracket that is no longer available.
I really wish that DJI would offer different Hi-Vis color options for their drones. I have been considering wrapping my Mini 4 in reflective tape just to be able to see it better in the sky. A grey drone in a grey sky you can lose sight of the small drone pretty quick.
Thanks
👍👍✌️ looks like you’re using a triple tech tablet….nice. I love mine. And the bird stickers hope you get back to us on if that works. Real problem sometimes.
Awesome video. What about best video setting for night time or sunsets!!
HLG is 10-bit in the same way as D-LOG M is. HLG just uses other color metrics so you can use that footage to export drone footages to HDR.
But, for normal videos that are going to get posted on TH-cam, I mostly just use 'Normal' mode on my DJI Mavic 3 Pro. Because that drone have a Hasselblad lens / camera and the 'Normal' mode is also tuned by 'Hasselblad'. So, the colors and quality you get with 'Normal' mode on that drone, even though 'Normal' mode is just 8-bit, is still really really great.
Now, the DJI Mini 4 Pro doesn't have a Hasselblad camera, so it might be the case that manual tuning / color grading the D-LOG M footages might be a better choice on that drone.
I like that big screen you have on the controller
Great concise patter as ever. Can you try to include what features you explain on the 4, that the mini3 pro also has? We're feeling a bit forgotten out here
Yes please can mention the Min 3 pro. 👍🏿
Great video, I am currently saving my pennies for a Mini 4, this video convinced me I am doing the right thing. I had sea gulls knock a prop off of my Yuneec Typhoon H one day while filming over the ocean, luckily being a hexa-copter it didn't end up in Davey Jones Locker, but man that was scary! Why do you use a tablet instead of the RC2 controller? Which tablet are you using? Thanks again for the great tips!
Looking to get a Mini 4 Pro soon. Can you manually input LAT/LONG Coordinates to fly a waypoint mission?
Just found your channel and I love it. Thanks.
Got mine yesterday.. Testflying Saturday/Sunday
Oh, I thought you said testifying.
@@TentoesMe +1😃
Russ, please do test the tape and let us know how that goes. i bet this is very high interest for all of us that have a small Mini drone in our drone lineup. Cheers!
Thx Russ.
Sir, I watched a Looot od videos with tips and you compress most important here on this video. Usually I don’t give sub but YOU DESERVE for subs and likes! Really useful knowledge. Please share more content with m4p about fps in 🇺🇸 and Europe, shutter speed(180degree) and why it’s not that important when we flying high :). Additional I have Samsung EVO plus 512GB and got lags(maybe because of many wifi in city) or maybe I should change it for your sandisk 🤔. DLog-M 😮 wow! Now I’m more confident to use it.
Guys this channel is gold!
Thank you for your work Sir!
Appreciate that! 🙏🏻
Great video, one question when you plug into PC via USB can you leave wings folded down and just switch on? I always take gimble guard off though as camera moves?
Thanks Russ! I have been being your channel subscriber for many years and every episode I learn something new! Would you provide a link for purchasing the bright color tape? A stupid question, on the DJI4 Mini Pro remote, I always struggle to exit from the Quickshot mode back to Normal control mode, what is the best way to exit out Quickshot Mode? As always, Thank you very much!
I posted it in the comments. Thanks! I always just enter the menu and switch back to normal mode. I don’t think there is a quick way.
You eject it first then unplug it. Great video mate , thank you
I use cruise control a lot to get some of my smooth shots
for the birds attack one i did and it works even when i was letting my drone to follow the way points there was an eagle above it quite near to my drone.
gotta Love that “anti bird laser”….. accurate up to 50 yards but Will eliminate the threat out to 100 yards….. 😳👍🏼
Good tips, but with D log-M best to use the LUT supplied by dji on their website than use the contrast and saturation controls. Once you have applied the LUT, THEN you can grade it.
It’s helpful, but not required.
I bought that tape too ...wondering if a red or orange high vis skin would work. Coming down from the Mavic 3 Pro, I always feel like bystanders look at the Mini 4 Pro as a toy. Maybe a bright red or yellow would look more official too. People don't get it. Fly the Mav3 Pro and they see that camera, and you get a totally different feel from them.
When the AR "H" is extremely helpful is flying at night in a pitch black rural area. This is when there are little to no ambient lighting (literally flying blind). Sound crazy, but I fly this way about every other night. When you take off, fly up to near 400 feet so you won't hit any trees. Then turn to the left or right (yaw) and look for a distant light. Fly towards it and look down (this is just exploring, but very exciting as I am curious by nature). Then fly to the next lit up area and keep doing this until the battery gets low (I usually start my return at 40%). So how can I find my way back if there is no lights at your house? Look for the AR "H" and fly towards it. Sure, you can just press the RTH button, but where's the fun in that?
I try my best in most cases to face my drone to keep a strong transmission. Just curious if there are any transmitter boosters out there?
@51drones
New to drones and just got the mini 4 pro. So I'm way behind on things it can and should do. Any advice?
I am glad to report that the Blue dot / Green dot works on my mini 2 as well.
Can you use subject scanning with waypoints to set your POV?
What controller your using? With your mini 4 pro?
Did the red tape work?
Hi. I can’t find a video on editing the 10 bit color. Do you have a link? Thank you.
You should do a DLog vs HLG video
Gentle beast 33
what mount were you using for your tablet?
Hello! How did the reflective tape test go? Were you able to find the time to try it yet? Cheers!
Still waiting for the gulls to arrive. I did see one today, so the next couple days there should be hundreds
Do you happen to know when or if DJI will allow us to pre plan our flights from our computer and set up our shots like the Litchi app does?
as you asked for questions: I keep regularly looking if the sdk is available yet so I can run litchy and other third party software. And any idea what controller I would need if and when it comes out ...?
Question! When pushing return to home, are the obstacles avoidance sensors still active?
you are showing the tripletek tablet in use, great, but can it operate seamlessley with an RC 2 controller, ???? so one has the two screen options available (but not at the same time)
