    ***CORRECTION*** We were wrong about the RX. With the AR637TA RX the Super Timber comes equipped with...you have 6 actual ports, but 3 other "Virtual/Function" channels. So...you CAN have a full span aileron mix, Thrust Reverse, and AS3X/SAFE on switches with the stock RX (If your TX has the channels)...no need for a larger RX to get all the options/functions.

    • @loganmartin7155
      @loganmartin7155 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I have a night timber x with full span ailerons and would love to get reverse thrust as well. How do you use the virtual function channels?

    • @ModelAV8RChannel
      @ModelAV8RChannel  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You'll see AUX2, AUX3, etc. depending on how many channels your TX is. Just assign that function to one of those on whatever switch you want...which for reverse thrust is handled in the Avian programming.

      Wouldn't you need to go to 8ch if you also wanted crow? Like the 2m SWS or 60" PnP Stick?

    • @ModelAV8RChannel
      @ModelAV8RChannel  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @thomasedwards629 For crow and full span ailerons...yes. If you just want one or the other, no. With the 6 channel (6 actual ports), you can y the ailerons and isolate the two flap servos for full span ailerons, or y the flaps and isolate the ailerons for crow. To have both... you have to isolate all 4... then you need more channels (ports).

    I learned to fly both fixed and rotary wing model. During this process I crashed numerous times. My time and money could have been avoided with AS3X and SAFE. I viewed these training aids as a crutch but not any more. They will save you money and air time.

    • @ModelAV8RChannel
      @ModelAV8RChannel  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      They can be a crutch...or a training aid. All in how you use it. To be fair, if someone wants a crutch, and they are having fun...I reckon that is alright as well.

    • @JS-zz2hz
      @JS-zz2hz หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Maybe it's just me but - at least with Timbers - I think SAFE enables slower flying than fully hands on can achieve so I will often switch it on just to see how slow I can mooch around with flaps.

    • @ModelAV8RChannel
      @ModelAV8RChannel  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@JS-zz2hz For sure Timbers will fly slow even at a lower angle of attack, but It's just you. SAFE limits control throw. I can get any plane (including Timbers) at a higher angle of attack (slower) out of SAFE than I can in it. You need the elevator and rudder throw combined with throttle modulation to get as slow as a plane is capable of flying.

    • @JS-zz2hz
      @JS-zz2hz 29 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@ModelAV8RChannel It's me being lazy Adam. As only an occasional flyer now I just find slow fly steadier and easier in SAFE especially with something like a Timber X but If I was a more regular flyer I might well have eventually got better than the artificial aids.

      @@ModelAV8RChannel Seriously I think they could do it. They only have to nail that mild to wild experience the other Timbers have.

    Looks WAAY more lively on 6s. The big old Twimber-esque wing looks a little more comfortable when its on floats, i think. Just an esthetics thing for me, really. Nice plane thanks for your detailed review as always! The big question for me being that it’s HH is how long it will be until it’s discontinued and the parts support dries up. Their products tend to have very short life cycles.

    • @ModelAV8RChannel
      @ModelAV8RChannel  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks very much! So, to be fair that is a very broad statement, and not totally true. HH has had plenty of planes sell for a very long time. How they sell determines the lifespan. Great sellers like Timbers sell a long time, and because they sell so well (top selling model ever maybe) they get updated as they get feedback as to what customers want. Planes that don't sell well get discontinued, and on occasion it can be an issue with factories in China. Sometimes they won't make spare parts for a plane that isn't in production. This one has everything, and I suspect it will be in production a while.

    • @ModelAV8RChannel
      @ModelAV8RChannel  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks man! So...gonna lay down a few facts on the Twin Timber...not directed at you...just the truth FYI. That wasn't the gear on the Twimber...that was pilots screwing up. We have a full video with multiple takeoffs and landings from multiple surfaces with no nose overs. That isn't magic. Lol. Now...will it nose over easier than most because of the high thrust line and high center of mass...yes...that should be obvious. I mean...look at it. So...account for that and fly it the way that is required. Use more up elevator on takeoff, and flare it more to get the nose up or be prepared to use more elevator than normal on a wheel landing to counter that characteristic...and you're fine. Pilots complain because you have to fly it different. Duh. It is different...that is the point of it. It's not supposed to look or fly exactly like everything else.

      @@ModelAV8RChannel Great tips! I have actually worked through some of that, and it helped a lot. Still seems a little more prone to it than it should be, for the reasons you mentioned. Not a concern on my other few planes. My remaining design complaints are more about quality of the tires, axels, and that rear tire and flimsy spring that lays over sideways instead of turning with the rudder in slightly soft surfaces. It looked like there were great improvements on all those issues, on that Super T!

    Nice review Adam. How would you compare it with the Balsa Timber Sws? Would be an interesting comparison between those two since this one is half the price of the sws and easier to put together.

    • @ModelAV8RChannel
      @ModelAV8RChannel  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yep, that is the advantage of foam...less expensive and easier to assemble, although the SWS is cake to assemble for a balsa model. The SWS's advantage is what you'd expect from a big balsa bird. It has more presence due to the shear size, it is much more resistant to hangar rash, and is still the most precise Timber I've ever flown. That said the ST is the most precise foam Timber by a good bit, and it reminded me of the SWS in that respect. The ST has some other clear advantages. It has the potential to be much better at 3D/XA aerobatics with the full span aileron option, but with sport aerobatics they are pretty evenly matched. It has much better gear and is a better pure STOL/bush plane. It has much better lights. The interchangeable slats are key...being able to take them off for aerobatics and put them on for STOL/bush flying is significant. Obviously the new light inflatable wheels are amazing...and can improve the SWS as well as they will fit it.
      Bottom line is there are legit reasons for both depending on who you ask and what they are looking for. I haven't flown a bad Timber...they are all good given what they are and the genre they are in. Best selling rc plane line in history for a reason. We has passed on most of the sport/bush planes we've been sent and reviewed to other deserving modelers...we just don't have room to keep them all. The ST and SWS are both still in our hangar. What does that tell you...

      @@ModelAV8RChannel thanks for your opinion. Currently I fly the Turbo Timber. Great plane but needs a nit more power and quicker roll rates. So have to think if it is a good idea to get the Super Timber or if it is time to step up to the balsa SWS.

    It sucks that with the feds 400’ altitude limit, that e-flite is still not equipping their products with the 637T so you know your altitude.

      You know your altitude via your RID module if you're not flying at a FRIA. They are a complete GPS system. altitude, speed, etc. At a FRIA the altitudes are higher.

    If only they made a proper scale cockpit with lexan sheet windows for us FPV bush flyers🙏🤠

    • @ModelAV8RChannel
      @ModelAV8RChannel  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Well, it isn't a scale plane to be fair, and that would require more weight and $.
      Think of windows in a foam plane like a convertible car. When you remove the top of a car...you are removing an important part of the structure, so more reinforcement has to be added to make it as strong as it was. That is why the convertible version of every car is heavier than the regular version. Same with a foam model. The foam where the window stickers are is part of the structure supporting the wing/fuse connection. You take that away, you have to add more reinforcement (weight) to make it as structurally sound as it was before you cut all that away. That costs more to develop and design. Not really worth it on most sport planes.

      @@ModelAV8RChannel yeah, I'm with you on those points. Just me daydreaming🤠 Great review btw! Loved the pneumatic tires! I'm impressed with the weight on those😮 I use Xfly Tasman wheels on my SuperCub, but those are closer to 80 grams a piece.. I have far less bounce leaving them slightly deflated like you pointed out. It also helps avoiding nose-overs, since it's easier to run over stuff with soft tires.

    Hey Adam, I went with a Spektrum AR8360T and separated my ailerons and flaps.. which gives me CROW. I have yet to maiden my ST.. thoughts on CROW for this airframe?

    • @ModelAV8RChannel
      @ModelAV8RChannel  10 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      That is cool. I now have full span ailerons as well, but didn't change the RX to get crow. I had crow on my Legacy Turbo Bushmaster. It's cool to keep it from gaining too much speed on a down line. You just have to know when to get rid of it if you're trying to use it to come down steep and land. It blocks the tail out on some planes and you can't get it to round out and flare.

    • @bigrickRC1144
      @bigrickRC1144 10 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@ModelAV8RChannel thanks Adam.. excellent advise.. I didn’t think about the tail impact. I was more thinking the possible 3D effects CROW would give the ST when prop hangin her.

    • @ModelAV8RChannel
      @ModelAV8RChannel  9 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Technically you shouldn't need crow to hover it, maybe snap flaps to pop it into the hover quicker. Once you're there the normal 3 axis should be able to hold it fine if you have full span ailerons. All that said, playing with the crow and seeing what you can do with it should be fun.

    Being that the Stance is rather High, How is the ground handling in a breese?

    • @ModelAV8RChannel
      @ModelAV8RChannel  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Honestly it's less about the stance and more about the size of the rudder, the tail moment, and the pilots skill level. It has a big rudder and a long tail moment so it is easier to handle than many. I'm pretty good at using rudder, so for me it takes off and lands fine in the wind.

    • @ModelAV8RChannel

      That may be perfect. The actual math says 14x6 is the prop, but I think if you check the amps in the air with telemetry you'll be fine with that prop. Just keep an eye on the amps and temps on a hot day.

      AeroScout BNF with a Spektrum NX8. The NX8 will have capabilities that will take you through very advanced airplanes. You can use a cheaper, less capable TX to fly the AeroScout, but you will find yourself needing an upgrade soon.

      This setting alters how sensitive the sticks are around the center point. It does not alter the total throw of the servo movement. It alters the default linear curve to one that either is less sensitive (positive expo) or more sensitive (negative expo) around the middle point.

    If it is a 637 receiver with 6 servo ports, you should be able to use the higher "virtual channels" aux2 and above for ESC reversing, and AS3x functions without changing the receiver, I usually have reverse and AS3X functions starting at channel 9 on my eflite stuff with 6-8 channel receivers. Just need the ports to drive actual servos, 1 throttle, 2 Aileron, 3 elevator, 4 rudder, 5 left flap, 6 right flap, then motor reverse, AS3X mode and gain control/s panic button, etc on the virtual channels. Usually have to unlock the receiver to do that, but it should work, unless something changed.

    • @ModelAV8RChannel
      @ModelAV8RChannel  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Nope, nothing has changed...you are 100% correct. I was just texting with Gary Wright from HH. He educated me on this very thing. With the 637T and 637TA you have 3 extra "function" options for things like Mixes, AS3X/SAFE, and Reverse. So 6 ports, but 9 channels technically. We pinned a correcting comment.

    • @heathmikkola7157
      @heathmikkola7157 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I just was about to write this very thing, your virtual channels depend on transmitter not the receiver. So if people have a nx8 or nx10 for instance they have more channels than just the six on the receiver for thrust reverse, panic, as3x, etc.
