Hi Alexander! I'm a new subscriber, trying to connect with new people online and recently started following you here on TH-cam. Glad I did, you seem to be very personable, sincere and honest. So this morning, I'm up having coffee, waking up here in Hunt. Bch., CA. I thought your subject was interesting, and I definitely wanted to hear about Rush Week in today's times from a Millennial's point of view. I'm changing careers and after making websites and managing social media accounts like youtube, FB, etc. and am going to be writing full time and in the learning process for it, but am starting to build bridges and make connections now. I want to appeal to and represent the Millenials as accurately as possible in my books and screenplays. I was pleasantly surprised that fraternities are open and now accepting and even welcoming (?) gay students. I'm 51, born in 1966 (shhh, don't tell anyone I'm so old!), and in 1985 when I went to CSULB, I would NEVER have been able to join a frat house and be myself, an openly gay man who had JUST moved here from Kansas the year before during the very middle of my senior year! Actually, many of the gay bashings I heard about in the news around that time were done by fraternity members, and it was handled by the schools at that time and many times never even got to the police. The police handled gay bashings like they handled sex workers, as perverts and brutal attacks were then a non-priority. I am SO HAPPY to hear how much times have changed. I was afraid to even LOOK at a frat guy in school, for fear they'd think I was hitting on them. It makes me happy that all the protests I went to for gay rights really made a difference. I know this was a long comment, but I wanted to thank you for allowing me to wake up to hear such a wonderful thing, to know that my friends and families' young adults can join a frat now and actually get to be themselves. I rushed for a fraternity at my university, but, never got offered a bid. I never even got a phone call for an interview before the bid, not even an email, call, or text letting me know that I didn't get in. Now, the guys that are in that fraternity that I rushed for won't even look at me or even talk to me.

Hey, I'm a Lambda Chi too! Watermelon Bust was the give away. It was the most fun I ever had in my life. One question, do you bring your boyfriend to frat parties and dancers as a date? That would be unheard of when I went to school a hundred years ago. Happy to call you brother.
I have a question. I also go to Miami and I was wondering if fraternities will give sophomores the time of day during spring rush. If not, is it a better idea to rush in the fall even though the pledge classes are smaller?

When people use the term hazing how severe are we talking about, is it simple stuff like having to clean, doing chores, memorization of rules and code or is it more extensive stuff?

okimlistening2u I went to Penn-State and I never understood why I'd want to be a member of a frat. Granted I'm gay and that probably had something to do with it, although I came out in college and was never hassled about it.

hey, okimlistening2u. I joined a fraternity for the connections and the brotherhood! Thanks to the fraternity, I got an internship. Now greek life is not for everyone. Joining a fraternity helps you become a better person and get leadership roles. That can be giving back to the community or raising money for a charity. Now with the brotherhood aspect. These are people you will be talking to after graduation and who will be at your graduation. But you can also find friends for life outside! As you said, its your first time out of the house why join a fraternity? Well its simple, its basically a family away from home!

Ok that is great that frats and sororities are no longer discriminating against LGBTQ people, but youngster please realize that it's like this now because there are federal law that protect this group now. Not so long ago we did not have the law behind us and we would get rejected for just that reason and nobody would have a hesitation to tell you so. I pledged my frat in the early 90s and believe me I did not tell anybody about my sexual preference until after I graduated from college. I feel that anybody interested in becoming a greek keep that part of their life to themselves until after they get into the organization.
