    Why does their god need to win? He's a god, doesn't he win by default with that logi.... oh, I almost said the L word in a sentence about Christianity. How silly of me.

    Im an Athiest. Honestly I don't care what other people do or believe. It is not my problem nor is it my place to ask them to stop. My problem starts when people try to convert me. When people knock on my door and threaten me and "unholy" family with eternal damnation while waking up my sleeping baby. I never try to convert others to atheism. Religion isn't for me or my family but if you met us you would never know. You do not need the threat of hell to be good and moral. I wouldn't hurt a fly. I hate the stigma that comes along with non believers. I am simply me. I am happy and I know I am not alone.

      TheYasmineFlower I suspect he's from a younger generation and it's an expression that has modern usage that's foreign to me. By 'lost' I suspect he means he had a good laugh - at Fox's expense. They are renowned for their stupid claims, which ties-in nicely with the gullibility of their audience. Their audience is likely the result of combining poor Public education and unquestioning fundamental Christianity.

    • @TheYasmineFlower

      Question Everything I understood that he meant he laughed at it. And I am also familiar with what Fox considers "common knowledge". ;)
      What I don't get is: Why did it make him laugh?

    The fact that a Christian fundamentalist in America dares to compare, not just Atheists, but anyone not undeniably evil, to Hitler or Nazis is just sickening. I've seen some of the concentration camps with my own two eyes, from Auswitch and Birkenau to Sachsenhausen and Ravensbrück to mention just the ones that made the biggest impression on me. Ravensbrück, being a concentration camp purely for women and children, is a gruesome camp, and the stories we were told there, the pictures... You don't even wanna know.
    I will tell you, there is NO WAY you can justify comparing ANYONE to Hitler or call them Nazis, purely based on their world view or religion (unless they're actually nazis). It's *insanely offensive*, not only towards those being called Nazis, but to the memory of the people who suffered the hellish conditions of those camps! These camps are a testament to pure, organized evil, executed with German precision,- built with one thing in mind: Mass extermination, genocide!
    ... And you, Todd Starnes, have the audacity to compare me and other free thinking, normal human beings to Hitler?! Not only do you do so, but you're saying it proudly! WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU?!
    If I'm wrong and there is a god, what makes you think he would want anything to do with you, huh? Fuck you!

      Evil comes from good. That kind of mentality you bring is the reason why evil becomes, because in order to balance certain things, one has to take, from one giving. Must or must not... all relative. Good and evil are both sides of the same coin. You display also Nazi traits, same as everyone else. How did the Nazi's come to power? Apathy, the power to be right. Hatred for evil. It turns them into evil themselves.

    Hitler was likely not a religious person, but not an atheist either. His "world view" was likely a mix of some elements of Catholic philosophy, Nordic Aryan myths, and Teutonic tribal mysteries. He certainly used many of the techniques of religions.....watch the giant meeting at Nuremburg, with all the pomp and ceremony. inspirational music, the whole deal.
    Being an atheist means nothing about your character or honesty, necessarily. You can be an atheist and a psychopath, atheist and a philanthropist, atheist and a genius, atheist and a dolt. Atheists are far underrepresented in prisons, have fewer arrests, less frequently abuse children or spouses, are generally better educated and better paid, less frequently divorced. There is no dogma, no ceremony, you can sleep in on the weekends. Atheism deals with only one thing. Do you believe in a supernatural gawd or gawds? As long as this entity does not interact with our reality, the natural world, then it is supernatural. If it interacts with this realm, then it becomes a part of the natural world and therefore would be available for study. So far, no evidence for any gawd or gawds. If you can answer the question "do you believe in a gawd"? by saying yes, you are a theist. If you say no or I don't know, then you are an atheist. Not agnostic. Theism is about belief, gnosticism is about knowledge. Different topics.

      He recognized power in the world and the Catholic Church had more than he was happy about, so he subsumed some of their practices and gave lip service to them, in return they quashed the German Christian Socialist party, giving Hitler a clear path to becoming Chancellor and in return he turned the education system over to them.

    Both Jesus and Hitler
    1. Wanted to rule the world.
    2. Demanded allegiance and submission from all, without exception.
    3. Promised utopia to those who abandoned everyone and everything and followed him.
    4. Mandated that failure to support and comply with his agenda be punishable by unimaginable brutal torture.
    5. Loved, supported and cheered by millions eager to turn against friends and family, uniting in the quest to extinguish freedom of thought, conscience and expression, all in the hope they will be rewarded by being among the privileged few to escape his brutality.

    Hitler's religion is very difficult to pinpoint, because, while he was baptised as a child and went to church when he was younger, he never attended church after leaving home. He also was skeptical of religion, sent priests to concentration camps, and when the Nazis invaded Poland, they immediately dismantled the church. There was in fact a dedicated clergy barracks at the Dachau Concentration Camp, with 94% of the people there being Roman Catholic, with around 400 German priests being among them. The Nazis dissolved the Catholic school board by 1939, followed by the Catholic press on 1941. It would have been difficult for Hitler to openly be an atheist who was trying to eliminate all religion in Germany, the latter of which he very likely was when the overwhelming majority of Germany was either Protestant or Catholic, with only about 3.4% being deist, and 1.5% being atheist. Stating that Hitler WAS a Catholic, or Hitler WAS an atheist, or Hitler was this religion, etc. is ignorant and one-sided, as Hitler's complicated and contradictory belief system is nearly impossible to describe with perfect accuracy. Some people claim he's an atheist, even though he openly believed in a creator and talked about God in his speeches. Those who claim he was a Catholic also have to explain why the Nazis, which were basically a reflection of Hitler's beliefs, would completely dismantle the Catholic church in Poland, why he would send German priests to concentration camps, dissolve the Catholic schools and press in Germany, and have an entire plan laid out on eliminating Christianity and all religion in Germany, or at least modify it to Hitler's liking. Neither side is with absolute certainty, correct, as both have contradicting evidence against them. However, I agreed with the rest of the video.

    • @TheCIScommander
      @TheCIScommander 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      And regardless of what he was, it doesn't matter. If he was Catholic, it doesn't immediately mean all Catholics are bad. If he was atheist, it doesn't mean all atheists are bad. People will throw Hitler on the side they don't like to make the other side look bad (ie, atheists claiming Hitler was Catholic, vice versa, left wingers claiming he was a right winger, vice versa). It's because people have personal biases for what they believe and misguided and misinformed views of what they're against (what left wing and right wing actually means, and where Hitler is placed on the scale, depending on your interpretation). I have biases, too. I'm not leaving myself out. I'm a left to far left democratic socialist atheist, believe it or not, but I try to view things in an unbiased way, rather than a way that favours me.

    What bothers me in the comment section, is how people are appropriating Hitler to make their point. Hitler was a monster, who utilized whatever was at his disposal in order to trick the German people at that time. His religion or lack there of is irrelevant. Him being a monster doesn’t mean Christians or Atheists are monsters. Seriously, I religious debate around this time and earlier was a joke. A bunch of deceitful, hateful bullies, more concerned with winning arguments, than compassion or reason.

    Starnes makes it seem like the only people who would be against prayer in public schools and at public meetings are atheists. Because that prayer would be completely non-denominational? Arguments like this always assume that the issue is religion (only ever Christianity) versus no religion, as opposed to no one specific religion versus the establishment or endorsement of a particular (Christian) religion.

    I faceplamed so many times my hang is starting to hurt. Like seriously dude, when you blindly compare Atheists to Nazis, the nazi population wasnt against Christianity, but Catholicism, because for some odd reason Catholics and Protestants are constantly at eachothers throats, and before you go and accuse Hitler of being an atheist, count how many times he referenced to the Christian "God" in Mien Kumpf. And how come every Christian blames Joseph Stalin and Mao Zedong for being killer atheists, but yet no one Christian will dare bring up Mary the 1st of England who almost killed off the entire population of Protestants in England to restore Catholicism. And they have seem to have forgetten Isabella the First of Castille who expelled all Jews and Muslims from spain in order to restore Catholicism to Spain. Like seriously Christians, think before you speak.

    The host here is actually wrong when he claims that the US Constitution makes no reference to god - god in fact gets a mention right off the bat, in the phrase "In the year of our Lord...". But of course it is no more "religious" than the practise of using AD and BC for dates, regardless of any beliefs. Then there are two further references to religion in the body of the document... and in both cases it is mentioned specifically to prohibit religion interfering with government.

    Wrong, Hitler was RAISED Roman Catholic. By the time of the third Reich he was at very least an agnostic or pragmatist. He was definitely of a secular mind during the reign of Nazi Germany. He criticized the Catholic Church (Which was basically unheard of back then by sworn Catholics) The Christian symbolism the Nazis used were opportunistic at best.

    The population of citizens of Christian faith in Nazi Germany is irrelevant when they aren't a part of government decisions. I agree with the point of this video, and am an atheist. However, that John Adams quote is actually out-of-context, which to be fair, you might not be aware of, as it's oft-misquoted. The full quote is from a letter to Jefferson, and reads as follows:
    "Twenty times in the course of my late reading have I been on the point of breaking out, 'This would be the best of all possible worlds, if there were no religion at all!' But in this exclamation I would have been as fanatical as Bryant or Cleverly. Without religion, this world would be something not fit to be mentioned in polite company, I mean hell."
    The personal beliefs of the founding fathers are largely irrelevant to me, though, seeing as they have little to no bearing on how they wanted our government to function - as much as people on every side like to cling to their quotations as argumentative resources.

  • @AmerginMacEccit

    Those people don't have the remotest idea what they're talking about. They can say Hitler was a socialist (well, sort of, a national one) but that doesn't make all socialists nazis, on the contrary, all other socialists were against him. First inmates of Dachau concentration camp were political prisoners like communists, patriot dissidents, opposition etc. The III Reich was a weird construct, but people there were definately not atheists (though all the suffering and tragedies they saw might as well have made plenty of atheists...). Germany heading for the III Reich was half protestant and half catholic along with some minorities (yes, those felt quite unwelcome when Hitler took over). Kyle is right here, soldiers did wear "God is with us" belt buckles as a long military tradition, they had priests in their units like all other Western armies. It is a bit ironic, isn't it? Hitler and the III Reich elite planned to invent some other esoteric religion and it's clear from that state's symbolism.
    PS Surprise surprise, all the founding fathers were not Christian, they were at forefront of elightment (mostly deists) and still conservatives. Would anyone call them nazis?

  • @AmerginMacEccit
    @AmerginMacEccit 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    Those bits are my favourite debate cookies... They have a curious flavour: complicated. That would be a bad call and quite insulting to a large part of the world. We've all probably made some mistakes struggling to explain how much untrue this comparison is. At that time Germany was in general divided between lutherans and catholics but the state itself had something much more in plans transforming itself into a new religion largely based on mythology, Germanic traditions somehow merged with Christianity and borrowed fairy tales. Anyway, Hitler wasn't secular. He believed in some kind of divine providence and used religious hierarchy to his aims on a regular basis. Some bishops were more than happy to cooperate.
