    I hope I don't insult anyone or their beliefs but, I have learnt this song and this can be played on the Great Highland Bagpipes. The sound is truly magical. The first time I played it was just so emotional.

    i have been to NZ, and indeed have kiwi relatives out there, they are so integrated and i think they cherish the Maori heritage that New Zealanders embrace so much, also the Maori peoples have passed on to there counter parts their fierce warrior ethos because NZ troops have proved so brilliant over the years, that includes the aussies and gurhkas

    For those of you who criticize Hayley for singing this, you do know the words don't you? It's about those who leave their homes behind and come over your waters because they love one of you. You are more than Maori by now and people from abroad have sacrificed a lot to share life there with you. Is it a welcome and a love song or is it just an empty performance to you?

    • @stephenfarthing3819
      @stephenfarthing3819 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't criticise it. I understand that basic message of the lyrics and the meaning of the words. It wasn't lost on me. So much so that I wanted to master it. And I believe that I have done so! I've often sung it in the store and right through the pandemic I sang it despite being sorely scared out of my wits. But the words of the song made me realise that there has always got to be a calm voice singing it. Conveying hope and optimism that we would all get through the other side. I originally thought of tagging it with a Hymn to send a message to the people of New Zealand after the tears caused by one man who was sorely disinformed and the rampage of 2019 which cost 51 lives. To send a message from the Mother of the Commonwealth to the child of NZ that there was compassion and understanding. It took me a year to master it. But the Pandemic screwed up with everything on this matter. I wanted to do it. And would have. If not for the pandemic.

      Foi escrito por um soldado Neo Zelandese no primeiro guerra mundial pata a mulher dele em casa, aqui sao as letras.
      Eles estão agitados, as águas de Waiapu, Mas quando você cruza menina, eles ficarão calmos.
      Oh menina, voltai-vos a mim, Eu poderia morrer de amor por você. Escrevi minha carta,
      Eu enviei meu anel, para que seu pessoal possa ver que estou preocupado. Minha pobre caneta está despedaçada, Não tenho mais papel,
      Mas meu amor continua firme. Meu amor nunca vai ser seco pelo sol, será para sempre umedecido pelas minhas lágrimas.

    This very simple song speaks of a Maori soldier in the landing force at Gallipoli in Turkey - and he writes about home, his girlfriend and his tribe. This is also synonymous with a Christmas carol. Silent Night - and it is a very similar situation in the dark days of conflict and doubt. Both are about in the First World War.
