This video has so many levels of wrong. It's a V7 battery pack, not a V8! V7: 2100mAh, long stem with inline hole. V8: 2800mAh, long stem with offset hole, and uses INR-20700 (not 18650) cells! th-cam.com/video/-WwSKc5xewI/w-d-xo.htmlm59s
The reason you got no voltage at the main lugs was because there is a magnetic switch on the back of the circuit board, when the dust bin is open, it disables the output
There was nothing wrong with that pack. You won't read any voltage from the pack by just sticking your leads in it. There's a switch on the pack which is pressed by the trigger on the machine. Unless that switch is pressed, you won't read any voltage. This guy doesn't have a clue what he's doing. That was confirmed when he butchered the pack apart. It's easy to open without causing any damage. use guitar plectrums.
Yes exactly but to be honest it doesn’t really mean the cells are ok, I got some that charge fine to full voltage but last 10 seconds and bms board is ok
there are two switches, in fact, at leeast on the official dyson packs, one is the trigger switch you are talking baout, but there is also a magnetic switch that is triggered by a magnet when the cyclon eis closed on the vacuum, so you cannot power up the machine when that is open or not seated correctly to protect the motor from debris.
Are the batteries in the US really 18650's for this model? Over here in the UK they are 20700's-Viewers ! Please Check before you go out and buy replacements
The batteries were all near full charge, so most likely still good, and then you destroy them! Like you said in the video, the problem is most likely on the circuit board. I thought you would troubleshoot the board, check for basic things like cracked/dry solder joints, burnt out components...
Yes, but full charge is not essential, you can have 4,2V with a "tired" cell. The real reliable test is the internal resistance which must be strictly the same for all cells, specially for high discharge cells like these Dyson. If not, the pack will be quickly unbalanced, the Bms cannot balance such a pack correctly. But I am sure that was not the issue here!
@@Michel-Artois in real world old batteries might come up fine but have no staying power so just an excecise in frustration not to replace ole batteries. The one I just replaced apparently charged full and had could power but on high? lasted less than 20 seconds and then cut out not worth messing with after years of use IMHO
You keep mentioning the BMS is likely the problem and you double check the individual cells as well as the pack and found the voltage was acceptable but yet you went on to dismantle the batteries? Why did you do that. I was hoping you would try to troubleshoot the BMS but after all that fluffing you went on line to buy a replacement?
There is no solution for these Dyson BMS which are programmed for a definitive lock down . Same result if you disconnect for changing the cells...and it's easy to understand why... Necessary to modify the firmware to recover a normal function, but most of people cannot do that....and so we have a lot of still good batteries in the trash.
THE big issue here is simply the very "clever" Dyson's BMS : it locks down DEFINITIVELY after the first little voltage issue , for instance when you still use max power with a discharged batterie, voltage falls immediately and the BMS locks forever. I opened a lot of "red" Dyson batteries with still good cells, simply definitively blocked by this BMS. Solution : buy a chinese Dyson BMS (Ali, re-usable without issue), cut all male tabs on the box, the screws are enough, so you can re-open it easily, use the same cells after control (first of all same IR) and it runs again like new. I did that for my V10 and V6 successful...22€ for both BMS, and easy to change the cells if necessary. (only with 30A discharge) .........Why did you "destroy" your pack ?
He also had the charger connected, it wont output voltage even if nothings is broken and even if you press the switch, he did neither, wtf, hes the reason manufacturers don't want consumers take stuff apart even if they are handy withy screwdrivers and electricasl stuff.
That's exactly what is was. The plastic warps a little over time and people pressing on the trigger too hard moves the microswitch. Easy fix. Nothing wrong with that pack.
By the time one goes through this it's better to get a new pack. Wouldn't mess with lithium ion batteries due to hazardous materials. I could never do this for a living. Send the pack to the appropriate recycling centers
The lithium and cobalt in Lithium-Cobalt Li-Ion batteries is not a danger to your health as long as you don't open up the cells. For the repair, no cells need to be opened.

Even for free, this audio is unacceptable lol. Your face isn’t even in this. Just do a voice over dub of what you’re saying. You can even do this with the built on TH-cam tools.
Interesting, doable but TOTALLY not worth doing unless one just enjoys effort can buy knock offs for 30+ dollars and frankly my time is worth more than the peniies I MIGHT save ding it myself
I admire people who make films and show themselves to others without really having a clue how it works. They only litter the internet

You have to press that button
Can you reuse the same kit with new cells?
Assuming it's only the cells that were the problem
