I do Stihl service and sales at Ace Hardware in Devils Lake ND. I did not know that the locking pin hole was magnetic! How cool is that! Enjoy watching your videos very much. I do learn a few helpful tips now and then. Thanks!!!!!
Just got a new FS 111 and it's the first time I'll be installing the blade tomorrow.
I purchased FS 111 R too. Where did you find the kit to buy? I’m in CA and would like to buy online.
Clear and simple explanations...👍gotta get one of those Ninja star blade and bigger guard cheers
Excellent. I forgot how to keep the shaft from spinning and you reminded me how. Thanks
A word of advice? When you put the guard on, make sure you start the treads by hand until they grab. Actually stipped mine by using driver directly.
As
Yes starting by hand is the best practice.
Wear steel toe leather boots, keep your feet close together and take small steps, don't cross over your feet with the blades. I do this work.
GREAT video! Thank you for the step by step instructions. Very, very helpful! :)
Very useful video. You explained the process of installing the blade very clearly. Thank you 🇼🇸
Now go crush some brush 😉
Best video I've seen on this procedure.
Thank you!
it would be awesome if you did a video covering all the blade options and what each are best suited for
Look up Project Farm here on TH-cam. He tested and reviewed all the common blade types. It's titled "Best Brush Cutter Blade? Let's Find Out!"
@@Lauter2012the blades he uses are some of the worst performing blades.
I will try to do that. We really sell 2 blades in our market. The red shredder and a flat 12”. They dominate sub 1” material the best. If you’re getting into stuff larger than 1” in diameter you need more teeth. Think saw blade.
@carlsmowerandsaw I just now seem your reply to my comment. Would you name a couple decent performing blades? I'm mainly just interested with the 3 sided brush blades, (currently running a cheap one from amazon).. and also interested in the blade that is basically a saw blade, (currently running a Kurt-saw 9" 36 Teeth Carbide Tipped blade). The bush blades i have on a Sthl fs94r .. and the saw blade on a fs111r.
Fantastic video, answered my question.
Thanks, Carl. That was helpful and I learned a couple of things. (Just bought a Kombi for my business).
One of this best tutorials on this.
But a link to buy the product would be nice.
True.
This was excellently explained with step by step no nonsense. Visually excellent presentation. Thank you so much for the quality of this video, editing and presentation included. 💯🇨🇦🍁
Agreed, just shame about the wind on the mike which hid some of the instructions, but made up with the clear visuals
Great video my friend. Thanks for the help!!
What do you need to cut?
so wonderful beautiful video Carl i love it see so nice
So i guess i bought the older blade kit last week because it came with the two piece was washer and hub. No big deal there. What's really odd tho is that it came with a much smaller guard that what was already on it for the string trimmer. The pre installed one on mine looks exactly like the pre installed one in the video. The one in the kit is a lot smaller in diameter and much closer to the blade as well. If it was installed you would surely want to switch back when using the string because with the blade guard you'd only be able to use 2 to 3 inches of string
You bought the limit stop kit? Designed for saw blades.
I have mostly echos but I've been using a stihl at one company. Thanks for the video of this weird cup over the blade. My Echos have a small solid metal one instead of the bucket shaped one. I like the stihl style gearbox lock pin location.
Very Well Done!
Best demo ever!!
Very good explanation, thank you.
Grabbed the kombi 91R for $75. I’ll get this ninja blade for my woods. What a deal. Does it matter if stihl says down or up on these blades?
The 4 tooth and 3 tooth blades are reversible. Up or down doesn’t matter.
Help Please! What is the part number for this complete kit for the FS91R?? Thank you!
Nice instruction, thanks!
I started to buy that bkade, but went with the high grass blade instead. It cuts well in briars, high brush, and stalky weeds. It seems less jumpy than the knife looking one you have there, although the one you have probably cuts faster.
Can that blade hardware be put on the FS 70R? Great video!
There is a kit specifically for the FS70
Don’t know
Thx for the video. Very helpful!
Thank you for your video, need your opinion, the blade isn't spinning freely even though I followed the steps on the video...your assistance would be appreciated
Remove the blade and check the thrust plate, make sure there is nothing underneath it, there will be some resistance but not much at all.
Hey Quick Question, i have a 411 stihl and i'm trying to change the deflector, however, i can't remove the screw from it after unplinging him from the machine. It's like there is a circle who prevent users to remove the screws. Problem is, there is no others screws for the 2nd reflector. It feel very strange that i can't remove them from the deflector ... thanks
Excellent video, thank you.
Can this be done on a FS 38?
Great video 👍
Sorry no. Best option for FS38 is PolyCut
@@Carlsmower Thanks 🙏
hi,i have one machine like this,i had a little trouble with the lawn trimmer head, when i mounted the lawn trimmer head i forgot the holder, how to take out the head?
So you forgot the thrust plate? That can be a bit fun. If you pull engine off shaft you can lock the drive shaft in a vise or hold with vise grips and then spin head off
@@Carlsmower thank you.I can send you a photo or video of a machine like that stihl trimmer on instagram to understand good, but is a chinese trimmer.
Email me josh@carlsmower.com is best.
@@Carlsmower now i dont need your help,im did it repair my brush cutter.
Thanks dude.
Can you put this blade on an FS56? The parts catalogue says you can’t. Is it not powerful enough, the FS56?
That's what I have, and I can't get mine on.
my set i just bought is the same but the big stihl wacker when i use this the other day it gets super hot handles could only use in sperts is this normal???
I have the FS90R trimmer and the large reflector bolt holes won't line up in order to install. I checked the website and it says it's fits the FS90R but looks like it has a newer plastic fitment for the newer trimmers
There are definitely a couple different kits, depending on whether you have a single screw gearbox or a two screw gearbox. That would be the easiest way for me to differentiate easily to you. FS 90 deflector has a square flat place that mounts onto the gearbox the FS 91 deflector has a small arch mount onto the gearbox. Does that make sense?
I own a stihl combi attachment strimmer, do you know if this can also be removed and a brush cutter head be put on or do I have to buy the Brush cutter attachment as well? thanks
It sure can
Just wondering if the blade adapter kit come with the FS 240 Brush Cutter
Absolutely
Just picked up a blade set for my Stihl and it came with a shaft. I couldn’t install the shaft onto my weed whip so I just took the entire head with the guard off and swapped it on. It’s shaking uncontrollably now and after taking it apart and looking at it I have no clue what the problem is?
Guessing the blade is not centered on the arbor?
Does the FS 131 brush cutter/trimmer come with both deflectors in the box?
No it does not
So this would be made for more gnarley grass, weeds, small branches the thickness of a pencil?
It will dominate small stuff like that. The correct blade for the application will handle 1” plus in diameter. The tri blade loves 1” and down. Stay tuned for a video on our favorite blade. 😀
Thank you very very helpful
I have the FS 250R (a gift from a neighbor who's moved into an assisted living) - he gave me the grass cutting blade with it but when i put on the blade, i don't see an arbor to keep the blade centered. how do i keep it centered?
The rider plate has a built in arbor.
on a fs56 change head from blade to string head
Good job, thanks for posting
Happy we could help!
Don't forget some old motor oil or grease on the output shaft threads when changing attachments.
awesome video. thank you
Glad you liked it!
I have the same model and this blade works wonderfully but the vibration is unbearable.......am I doing something wrong with installation???
Is the blade centered? Is this a new blade? Any chance there is a broken thrust plate?
@@Carlsmower It is a new blade. I put it back on more carefully and being more observant and it works great now. Thankfully. It's a beast now cutting thicker stuff than I thought it would .
What's the part number on this kit? I can't find one that fits the 91
Same. I bought the 4180 007 1013 and it doesnt fit. You ever find the right one?
@@SpiderCenturion yeah actually found on eBay 250 131 4180-007-1032 used it already and it’s correct for my fs91
Can you use this blade on Stihl FS 56 RC
They do make a blade kit. But the options are limited. And I would be careful
Is FS70 suitable for metal blades? Thanks!
Would not be recommended as the FS70 runs a cable from head to toe.
@@Carlsmower How different is the FS91 shaft then?
It runs a solid steel drive shaft and also a better gearbox.
Does that wrench come with the kit?
No it does not. Depending on trimmer model it should have come with it.
Whats the keyway on the blade for?
Nothing at all
Can I use this blade and deflector with the FS 56 rc?
For the FS56 you would use kit # 4144 007 1016 and it should only be coupled with the 4 tooth grass blade
Can you please provide part number shown at 5:04 , thank you!
4180 710 8500
@@Carlsmower Thank You !
Can you use the brush cutter blade on a Stihl KM56 rc to cut brambles and blackberry bushes? Thanks for the video.
You can install purchase and run the Stihl Kombi Brush blade attachment on the KM56. Just be careful with what blade you use, as it is cable driven.
Thank You!
So glad to help
Isn't the blade meant to be logo up not down?
Great comment. On blades that have a tooth/cutting surface that is designed to only cut in one direction yes. The 3 and 4 tooth blades are reversible. Hope this clears it up.
@@Carlsmower Makes sense! Thanks for the reply, and the video!
Why can’t u use the knife blade on my fs km? My dealer said I could but I looked it up online and they said my Kombi unit won’t work due to motor head of the 56 rc-e
The KM56 runs a cable from the clutch to the connection point. That creates a weak link.
@@Carlsmower they said use grass blade instead of knife
Can I do this to my yard boss
I’ve seen it done.
What is the Stihl Kit part number?
Do you have a one bolt or two bolt gearbox? Meaning how many screws to fix the gearbox to the shaft. And what model do you have
Will this blade fit the fs 111r ?
Absolutely
Is the blade compatible with STIHL FSE 60?
Sorry no it is not.
@@Carlsmower Thanks for the response.
You can put on a Poly Cut head
Can this be done on an fs56?
There is a kit for the FS56. Just be careful it runs a cable (they don’t get along with blades)
Real nice.
on a fs56
Why didn't you try it out?
We do have in use videos too
I took the head off my trimmer and there is no arbor plate. Mine is brand new model. Looks like the head is different than yours. Wth do I do now 😆
What model do you have?
Did the arbor stick to the head?
Nobody cares
Thank u
Mines 6’3 300lbs tight.
That’s gud n tight
GET on with it FQFS
u mounted the blade upside/down ;-)
Generally speaking the rule is writing up so the operator can read it. But on a bidirectional blade like a 3 or 4 tooth it is irrelevant. Nice catch though.
@@Carlsmower so u can flip it before sharpening or?
@@19Taylor79 yes on the blades like this when one side dulls flip it over
change blade to string head
Difficult to understand with all the wind noise
Dang wind. We are constantly working to improve our audio.
@@Carlsmower just need a wind sock :)
Don’t use that blade by itself. It is useless. Use the string head under the blade and run them both. It will save you loads of time and effort trust me. None of these videos show the right way to attach a blade. They just show what the engineer from stihl designed. Lol 😆 try cutting highways for 10+ miles a day with saplings mixed in the Johnson grass that is 3 feet tall. You would get nowhere with just a blade. You gotta have string too
That's bad ass! Why not?! Never gave a thought to it. The blades will knock the hell out of long fallen brush and straw with a combo mulching action. I do not use my 1989 FS86 often, but when it does come out to play, it is for some ugly emergency clean ups. This will will help greatly.
How do you do that? A longer bolt ??
nooice
Own that brush
Good info!
Could do without the heavy breathing camera man tho....
Noted! lol! We try our best. :)
No one can hear you
Thank goodness for close captioning.
Honestly I’m sorry. Audio the bane of my existence
