The food all looks great. As far as presentation goes, it really does start BEFORE cooking happens. A big thing I try and do is imagine what the ingredients will look like before I make the dish. It will allow your composition to take place. The plate you use also has a big impact on the overall design of the dish. That being said, I eat microwaved egg whites on a bagel with kimchi every morning for breakfast and eat it over the sink.
The fumes from onion are attracted to moisture (usually closest source is eyes, nose, mouth) so putting a damp paper towel under or very near your onion when you chop helps a *lot*!
It's comforting to hear that someone else out there likes to eat just like me. Having the same type of bite of food for an entire meal is boring! Give me variety!
Love you! Tiny advice for the future… invest in a small, glass container with an air tight lid. Anything acidic, like pickling, should be stored in glass instead of plastic. You don’t want the chemicals from the plastic in your food. It also doesn’t hold onto the smells. I have to admire your motivation here. I LOVE cooking, but cooking just for myself, especially putting in effort, is hard to do.
I loved this video: and I have to say, I love this content that you are just doing for yourself. You don’t have to bend over backwards to make content that you aren’t passionate about. A little bit of self care goes a long way, and people love to see it!
Emma cooking for herself: beautiful, considered, tasty meals Me cooking for myself: making 1.5kg of sauerkraut because I bought a whole cabbage and didn't know what to do
Cabbage keeps for many weeks. So you can cut it fine and dress it with a simple vinaigrette or creamy dressing for a lovely salad. It complements pork very well. You can also cut a single portion wedge and steam it. Drizzle with a tablespoon of butter and add cracked pepper if you like for a beautiful side vegetable. But sauerkraut is a good idea too.
This is why i rarely buy fresh vegetables. Its just me so i will never ever eat a whole head of cabbage or lettuce or anything. I dont want to eat the same thing for days and days, so I end up using a little bit and throw the rest away
I really love "cooking with Emma"😊 pro tip: put a sponge or paper towel soaked in water right next to where you're cutting onions. It will help keep them from stinging your eyes.
This was so wholesome and relaxing to watch! It‘s always good to treat yourself, and those delicious healthy meals are an actual treat to your body aswell :)

I loved living with my friends (many moons ago). They were always appreciative of the house meals I cooked. Also, I would always suggest growing your own tomatoes. They're maybe the easiest veg to grow and you can nom at the size you like.

Hi Emma, one cool trick I use while slicing onions and minimise crying is to wet my knife beforehand and to keep wetting it every couple of slices. Hope it helps
I loved that this video was FOR you BY you. I seriously enjoy your cooking videos, and I'm not a cook. That salad looked perfect, all the mixed colors with the bread crumbs on top. I am so happy you are taking time for yourself and it makes me think of ways I can do the same for myself. We all need more self love. 💕
Cooking can be so relaxing and fun! A tip for cutting onions that I learned by watching Gordon Ramsey videos is to not cut the root part off. I still get teary-eyed, but not as bad as before. Great looking meals!
They all looked amazing! It's so easy to just cook whatever's easy when you're busy but ooft, sometimes you just have to splash out and take some time to make something special
I loved this video! The shot of the salad with the sweet potato was quite alluring. Haha and the squirtle noise over the bulbasaur image was magical. Thank you for sharing your kitchen with us!
Omg today I'm turning 25 haha (ready for my mid life crisis) but I'm so happy that Emma uploaded today you are literally my favorite TH-camr so thank youu much Emma
I also enjoy spending time to make myself something nice to eat at home. Its pretty relaxing. I even like to use extra fancy flatware/plates etc lol idk why but it makes it even better. Also a comfy dinning chair, not like a hard wood one is a must haha. Enjoy

after watching her videos for so many years it now feels like catching up with my big sister every couple of weeks. your food looks DELICIOUS my friend
Everything you made looks amazing! A few tips; when using your cutting board, if you put a wet piece of paper towel or cloth towel under it, it will NOT move, and when slicing your onions for pickling, the water in the cloth is suppose to draw the gas from the onions to it, instead of your eyes getting gassed. The last tip was from TikTok. Try them both, they may work for you. Good luck, and keep those amazing meals coming.
Just finished cooking and watched the video while eating. Went directly back to kitchen to prepare the pickled onions for tomorrow. Everything looked so tasty!
Oooooooh all of that looked and sounded so good! The way to make a salad look good is a) give it more space and make sure all the ingredients can be seen or b) have someone nice like you eat it and give it a rave review 🤤. Lingonberry jam on a beef sandwich makes total sense to me: Scandinavians like to serve lingonberry jam with red meat, so this isn't that different! I'm really hungry now...
For the weeping onions issue, it's caused by an irritant gas called syn-Propanethial-S-oxide that they released when cut. To minimize the irritation, use a sharp and honed knife to reduce the cut cells, wear a pair of the swimming goggles that Olympic swimmers use, and run the stove hood or open a window to vent the air for a few minutes before taking them off. If practical, you can also chill them in the fridge or chop them in quarters and soak them in water before slicing or mincing them.
Omg, I’m starving! Everything looks divine! Well done, I’m popping in for dinner when I’m finally allowed to escape Australia. PS. Try using the same pickling recipe but with finely sliced carrot sticks - a favourite Vietnamese recipe.
All of that sounded/looked so good! Idk if you store your onions in the fridge of not but that seems to help them not sting my eyes as much! Cold onion = no tears
Hi Emma, I enjoyed this video very much. All meals are easy to prepare, just the way I like in cooking. Thanks for filming and uploading 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 More to come please 👍🏼
these all look so freaking good my god. I used to enjoy cooking a lot but I don't so much these days... I'm trying to get back to making good food for myself so these recipes are super appreciated. also I need some elderflower syrup in my life!! thank you for sharing!
Still amazes me that you can eat fish raw that you buy and do at home. Would never dream of that in the UK. My damn Japanese visa needs to arrive already. Can’t wait to move. Great video!!!
I love everything you did with the cooking! There were multiple times during the video where I thought to myself "She doin' it! Look at her go!" And then I absolutely lost it at the squirtle part. I used to do salad prep for a catering company. For a big rustic salad like that, my biggest piece of advice would be to use a larger bowl/plate/etc. Usually I love to have salads in a large pasta bowl (or a super-shallow bowl) that is nice and wide with a large flat bottom--like the one you used for the salmon and salad, but maybe a bit bigger? That way you can create a bed of greens and arrange the toppings vertically as well as horizontally, and it gives more space to arrange and for all the ingredients to breathe without looking toooo spaced out. I like to think of it like arranging flowers--they usually look alright all wrapped up tightly in the store, but when you get them home and spread out in a correctly-sized vase, you can truly take in the beauty of the arrangement. For chicken, try slicing on a 45deg angle instead of straight across--angles make everything exciting for some reason! I also try to work from the largest component towards the smallest (leaving any meat or large proteins for near the end.) So I would add the greens first, then sprinkle on the onions, peppers and croutons, add the tomato, the orange pieces, and then fan the sliced chicken on top. I usually put the protein on last with something like steak/chicken, then add any garnishes (sesame seeds, pomegranate seeds, scallions, pepinos, etc) just before or just after dressing. Don't be afraid to get in there with your (impeccably clean, of course) hands and move things where they will look the best or where a space is looking a bit bare. Everything looks super tasty though! You doin' it, look at you go!
A good looking meal does great for your spirits, wish I had patience to think that more too. Pokebowl is easy to make everyone, try with that first if you wanna make some of these!
Those screaming salted tomatoes were golden! 😂 Tomatoes are my favorite food and I need to make tomatoes on toast a regular thing. All the meals looked so tasty!

Love this video! Food safety comment: be careful when having raw poultry in the pan with other elements. The raw chicken juices would’ve gotten on the tomatoes, and the tomatoes were pulled out before any bacteria from the meat could’ve been cooked off. Either take out the tomatoes before adding the chicken, or put the chicken in the pan before any veggies with a short cooking time, so that nothing exits the pan after swimming in meat not fully cooked. Don’t get salmonella! ❤️
I came here just to say this! As someone who was hospitalized due to salmonella (not my cooking, alas, a restaurant), I wouldn't even wish it upon my worst enemies. It's awful! Please be careful when you cook, everyone!
As far as I know many chicken in Japan are "vaccinated"(?) against salmonella. That`s why it is safe to eat half-cooked eggs over there and raw chicken sashimi is a thing. Now, that might not be the case for every single chicken breast you buy, but I think the risk is at least lower.
@@skima2519 that would explain it, but i think it's so ingrained that raw-chicken=food poisoning, it gave us all anxiety lol we don't wanna see Emma get sick.
I make that exact pickled onion recipe but add a bay leaf and some chopped garlic. Because garlic makes everything even better! And also, for a different flavor you can use apple cider vinegar instead of regular white vinegar.

True, but the smell still lingers. It is a bummer to pour homemade jam into a jar that smells of pickled onions, or worse pickled herring!
