  • Maserati or not, Duotone D/lab is one of the most expensive kiteboarding kite in 2022 on the market. Why? Because they used the Aluula composite material for certain parts of the kite. This is much lighter and also much durable than the dacron usually used for this. Is it any good? Does it fly well? Does it worth it? Should you run to the Corner Shop in Paris to buy it? Watch the video for my honest test result! We had the 15m Duotone D/Lab to play with.
Until then - enjoy the powerzone.

The biggest problem with the kites is fixing them. I’ve seen one guy go through 3 O.R. Allula in Matter of months with blow outs and punctures. Previously he was riding Cabrinha switchblades, they survived 5 years unscathed. He’s super disappointed in the durability. The beach we ride at is shingle. The claim is it’s a more durable material but it doesn’t seem that way.

TO be fair I was expecting this to happen, and it is sad, but without time this cant be told... I guess it is a lesson that the industry will learn with that.

I damaged my allula seriously. 2 weekes later I received fully repaired kite with no sign of damage. They replaced all panels of allula material. 50% more expensive repair but very solid and only few services in my country do that repairs.

Your review is totally accurate. I'm 100kg and the power is so insane on the foil. It becomes an animal.

    • @EpicGust
      @EpicGust  ปีที่แล้ว

Well to be fair there is not possible to get out more power from a 15 aluula then a 15m not alulla (give the same shape). we cant cheat physics! And a surface remains the same. But def easier to keep it alive!

I just did my first line a few days ago in Egypt, after about 10 hours of lessons and I'm hooked :) I'm going to Tenerife for 2-3 months hoping to get better at it. Have you been there, any recommendations? Otherwise, at some point next year I'd like to meet up somewhere and get some lessons from you, Italy seems really nice for a beginner.

by that time you certainly wont be a beginner but fear no, Italy will suit you even than :)) thanks mate, appriciated :))

good question. i remember seeing it but no pocket as before (and no line was there included) but maybe in the bag, etc. Would make sense for that 5 knots relaunch!

It is worth of the price if you do kite especially on lakes on ligth winds. I prefer TT boards and usually use this kite on very unstable wind conditions at small lake close to Warsaw. Also great for Como, Ressia or other lakes and lightwind conditions. Im 95 kg and able to kite on TT with foilers. No other TT sometimes on the spot.
    Also great dealing with gusts!
From the other hand - if You have much time and go kite for forecast or usually kite in Brasil, Sardegna, Rodos or other windy spot - it is not worth it in my opinion. Better just stay lightwind day off and rest.
So is it worth it? It depends on Your expectations. If You kite on the lakes, unstable wind conditions and everyday of wind is like a gold for You - definitly!
If not - only if You have lot of money.
In my case it definitly works! I usually kite on lightwind and gusty lake and I sold my 14 m and 11m and 15m Juice is doing the job perfectly!
Also knew that other companies do something like allula - for example Eleveight - also much cheaper - Dont know how it works comparing to DT.

Graite Video! i jast wanna to add my Ocean Rodeo Aluula Roam in 14 m wight is jast 2,4 kg (compere with 3,07 kg of jast 1 m bigger D Lab). My Ocean Rodeo Aluula Roam in10 m wight is only 1,8 kg) The weight of 17 m OR Aluula Flite about 2,9 kg with lighter than my foil kite Flysurfer Sonic 3 18 m - 3,36 kg which i already sold in oder to by 17 m OR Aluula Flite .
So it will be interesting to compere Aluula D Lab and Ocean Rodeo Aluula Roam ~ Flight but tecnicaly the Ocean Rodeo much ligher becouse thay use Aluula in a blader to . And frenkly speaaking the price of Ocean Rodeo Aluula series much more reasonable than Duotone.
Any way waiting for you vid! Good luck!)))

I've used an Aluula Flight 14.5 for last couple of years and very much like it. I agree with your points on the advantages of the material. I will add that I think there is less 'parasitic drag' with the material too since is so 'slick'. Air (and water) flow over it with less resistance/drag. I'd love to compare Juice to Flight to see the differences the designs make.
Also, where did you get that t-shirt with the small yellow kite?
