Hey Darryl. Might I suggest looking at the Bayou Gardener videos for info on growing onions in Louisiana. He has several and found them helpful. Good luck. Tommy
I moved and have to start a garden all over again. I was zone 8b but now Louisiana changed and I'm in 9. Your blackberry bushes look great and I look forward to seeing your sunflowers.
Sounds great! It actually gives you a great opportunity to start afresh with your raised bed gardening. This can really be fun as you get to start with a fresh canvas and ensure your raised beds meet your expectations for a bountiful harvest!!! Have fun!! And, thank you on the comments as I am surely looking forward to enjoying me blackberries and sunflowers!!
I think Walla Walla onions are long day onions better suited for up north. You may want to try short day onion varieties for the shorter summer days in the south.
Are they? I got some Walla Walla free seeds several years ago. I didn't even look into the type, just thought I would sow them and see how they would do. Thanks for the heads-up!!
Fantastic! Did you cut in some rows or raised beds? If row, I hope you have better soil than I do at my house? Good luck and let us know how it's going!!
Hi Darryl, do you have records of when you first saw squash vine borers at your place? I have a couple zukes going, and trying to figure out when to start in on protective measures. Thanks! p.s. saw y'all yesterday, but didnt ask as y'all looked really busy :)
Not yet. I was a little afraid to plant until after this freeze. That new raised bed of yours looks awesome. I’m still using lumber for mine right now.
@@LouisianaSimpleLiving , I finally planted everything in my beds. I put straw on top of my drip hose and around the whole bed this year and it has really cut down on my soil drying out.
Those are just rain gutters that you can get from Home Depot or Lowe's. Just make sure you get the end caps so all the soil doesn't wash out with the first rain. Also, make sure you water them regularly as they will dry out faster than your raised beds.

Yes that is true! I've got lots of things to consider this time around, but it will be so fun. @LouisianaSimpleLiving
Did you get a chance to start your new raised beds??
@@LouisianaSimpleLiving Not yet. Hopefully soon. I'm missing out on a good growing season.
