750 is 18karat and the jewelry is going to be moved into the water by the tides ad storms so if you are finding that much in the dry sand then you are missing 3 times as much in the shallows. Next year take your wellies and if you have insulated hip waders that would be even better. If you are near the water or in it then the targets will be generally sorted out in parallel lines relative to the waterline, pull tabs, then coins, then jewelry, relative to density and size. The ocean is very good at sorting out targets.
Nice Hunt!
18 CT or 75% gold that is both sad and great. It's a great find but sucks losing your wedding ring. Thanks for sharing John glad you enjoyed your vacation
I think the 750 mark is usually Italian. Such a lovely ring.
I have never even imagined that cows went to the beach. I found that so funny!! I love that.
Lucky cows. Living in paradise
Oh I love the cows ❤ so nice your wife insisted you went, you weren't hovering in the kitchen were you ? Perhaps a bit underfoot 😂
I am so impressed with your kindness. It gives me hope for the human race that there are people like you who want to do good and get the lost items back to the owners. Well done!!
Thanks Paula. Just know how I’d feel on the other side! Left details so you never know!
Thank you for introducing me to the beauty of Vatersay!
When I saw the cows sunning on the beach, I was mostly convinced you had reached Nirvana. But when you said you had no internet, I knew you had achieved heaven!
Stunning beauty of Scotland 🙂
It really is! A stunning coutry
Country even!
@@thescottishdetectorist
Shhh! Don't share it 😂
@@thescottishdetectorist Better than leaving out the 'o' lol
And have you seen the landscape too?!
Thank you John for taking us along on another dig and introducing the incredible bauty of Vetersay, and also the Isle of Barra. Those are some delightful treasures and hopefully you will be able to find the original owners and return them.
Thanks Sandy. Glad you enjoyed. Nice to be able to show off the scenery too!
Absolutely beautiful scenery! Thank you so very much for bringing us along ✌️🤍
Those Cows were laying on the Hoards for Sure..!😂
Mind you still found a Magic find's..!
Cheers from Oz. 🦘
I’m a very recent watcher and subscriber to your channel, John and I have to say I’m loving every minute of your videos; I think I’ve watched about a dozen so far, maybe more. Love what you do. All the best. Simon (North Yorkshire.)
That ring with the stones looks good you are knocking it out of the park
Many thanks. A great dig!
I have never seen cows on a beach, LOL
It’s quite a common thing in the western isles, they must like the sand and sun and maybe a wee cocktail 🍹hahaha
There's cows on an island in Ireland they go on the beach too.
If you ever go camping there, they avoid your tent when they go to the beach
I actually thought u just had edited the cows in the background on your thumbnail 😂😂
@@sammiross2817 it’s the real deal 🤪
I traveled to Scotland in 1976 went to Skye but on a limited time thought how wonderful to go out to the Outer Hebrides western isles off coast
You’ll have to come back again!!
Wow, what a day! Should go play the lottery with luck like that! (if it even exists over the pond lol). Thanks for sharing that paradise with us!
We do have the lottery and chances just as slim as yours!! 🤣
When a fella got a gal who tells him to go metal detecting, you know you got a keeper. 🥰🥇😂😂
Very pretty! Nice finds, love the cows! lol you aren’t used to the newer finds, nice though.
Thanks Patty. A wee change and nice to show off the scenery
Blessings, my Scottish Detectorist friend, from this old man in Tennessee. BONANZA! There are quite a few folks, here in the USA, finding lots of treasures on the beeches of Florida and others. Great finds…although I like your usual ancient coins and artifacts a bit better. Blessings John.
Fun hunt and some awesome finds. Thanks for sharing!!! Beach cows, who knew? Hahaha!
What a beautiful spot here you did good going there and how good to hunt in sand
I think it's entirely possible the stones are diamonds in that
ring because of the setting, very elaborate and made like that to allow the light to come through, to show off the stones... they only bother to do that for something precious I believe.
So fabulous to be reminded of the stunning beaches and scenery of my childhood holidays. Many thanks.
Thanks for the info. Definitely nice mounts! Agreed. Well I’ll have them checked?
And let you all know
Agreed. My grandmother and sister had/have silver wedding rings, preferring that to gold.
Wow I really love this view this is very nice
Thanks
18 carrot Gold as you know by now John ,what a beaut🤩
Gold price is currently on an all time high! Nice pratice before going south
To the Detechting rally! Where John has
Been lucky (Gold) before😜🔝❤️
Cheers Toni! Fingers crossed for good days in England! And not too much heat 🥵
They’d have to use the cows to drag me off that beach! Stunningly beautiful, as you say paradise
What a location! I've been meaning to visit Scotland for many years and this is a spectacular advert for going. Nice finds!
Must be a good one. The cows are having a lie down!
Hahaha 🤣 damn…. How did I miss that joke !!
John, a tip of my glass of Aberfeldy 16 to you. What a day, time for a lie down, once you are off the sand.
Thanks Steven! Enjoy 🥃 😉
I hope to come back some time 😀❤. I absolutely love Scotland ❤. Thank you for the video 😊.
Wonderful video - and I know from personal experience that that part of the world is just stunning.
Amen! It’s really beautiful, wilderness and paradise
750 means it's 18carat mate. Good find and yes a sore loss for some gent. I'm sure his ears got a good kicking when his wife found out.
Thanks Matthew. A great if slightly sad find
Hi John 👍😎🤘As usual a great wee video 👌Are the stones in the ring diamonds 🤔
The cows! 😃
What an absolute paradise ❤️❤️❤️ Your gold ring is 18kt or 75% pure gold. Congratulations on an amazing find and yes sad too. LOVE THE COWS💖💖💖sometimes they do put real diamonds in silver. John you are an honest man… most people wouldn’t try to find the owner of the gold ring.
So deceiving because it looks amazing there …. However my Summer Canadian self is shivering looking at that jumper you are wearing! 😂 🇨🇦 I might have to visit Scotland in the winter because then it will seem warm to me!
Watching all the way from Oregon! Love your channel.
has anyone found a gold ring on vatersay beach ,i lost it when the cows stampeded and we had to run for cover. seriously though what a stunning place thank your wife for letting you share this place with us . another great video .
Wow! beautiful beach and beautiful treasure.
I would be upset if I had lost any of those things.
Looks like an awesome place to vacation. I adore the cows sunbathing on the beach. Congrats on gold and silver and I understand the bittersweet feelings about them. Thanks John!
Wow your wife said it was ok for you to go metal detect on vacation! I would have better luck finding the gold ring!😂
I lost a watch 40+ years ago on a beach in New Jersey, USA. I still think of it as it was a gift from my favorite uncle who passed away. My lost is someone's found treasure (I hope!)
That’s sad. 😔 sorry for the loss
What exciting finds... In such a beautiful, serene place. yes paradise, indeed. Thanks for all the great videos 😄
Bang, Bang, John! 18K gold there, brother! You've done brilliantly and then had the beautiful scenery to top it off! What a great time.
Thanks Chris. A great day and beautiful surroundings
John! What a day for you! I have to comment on the silver ring with the stones. I got my wife one very like yours, and it was 5 diamonds. Do test the stones if you can. It really is amazingly similar. I hope one day to book a trip with you! That would be amazing!
Love your holiday videos and especially in the Scottish Caribbean on a beach full of sparkling treasure 🤩🤩🤩. What amazing finds and yes it is sad as I’d be heartbroken to lose something like them. Well done John and and great to see cows sunbathing on that lovely sand. I wonder why gold came up on such a low reading?
Thanks Pauline. Glad you enjoyed and it’s really beautiful, paradise is an understatement! A sad loss and yes, not sure why the reading was so low, but then I think one of my gold coins was only 55 or so? Just shows you!!
That's my idea of a vacation.
Beautiful isn’t it 🤩
I wouldn't doubt that the ring may be Diamonds! I inherited a ring from my mother that was silver and had real diamonds in it! I hope when you check it out that is what you find. Great Finds!
Thanks Thomas. I’ll get it looked at properly. Thanks for the info!
18 carat gold ring lovely jubbly 😂 what a great day!!
Nice work Jon!! I enjoy my 2 weeks on the New Hampshire coast every year, it’s just so easy to dig😀
When you panned over to the cows, I had such a laugh! I’m sure you’ve found out that the gold ring is 18 carat. The beaches in the Western Isles are just the best! Cheers, and ATB!
Wow those Cows were no bothering their arse.
Hahaha 🤪 yes, just a lazy day for them
I hope the owners of the rings can be found Jocky 👍👍
Thanks John. Me too
Wonderful finds
Thanks Nancy
Beautiful Scotland ❤😃
It really is! Stunning
If it was warm water, the beautiful beach would be packed with people and they cows would be run off. Thanks for the cool off. It hit 108f here today.
Beautiful scenery and a very successful day for you John. Would love to hear if you manage to locate the owners of the jewellery.
Stunning. I’m in the Isle of Man we have some beautiful sandy beaches and blue seas too. No cows on them, yet…
You did find something wonderful, John. You found cows!
Delighted you had such a great day
I did! Thanks Toni
What a stunning place to detect. Great finds, if somewhat sad too. Hope you can reunite them with their owners! 750 is 18k. The sunbathing cows did make me giggle!
Thanks Tanith. Yes the cows stole the show! Thanks for watching, a nice but sad collection of finds! Who knows, maybe someone will spot this!
Paradise indeed its stunning, has that beach ever been detected they’re lovely finds and cows on the beach that’s great😂😂
Thanks Mr Ghost! I detected it two years ago, but I doubt anyone was in between then and now. Paradise!
looks like you found free STAKE, for along time!!!!!
Gorgeous gorgeous. I’ve seen pigs and alligators on a beach but not cows 😂 Wow beach trinkets of the good variety for you! Shame they were probably lost and not chucked away 😂
Ooft how lucky you are to have visited also detecting.. love the cows just living the best life on the beach 😅 plus great finds!!!
Thanks for the video. Nice finds. Let us know what you find out on the silver ring and what stones they really are. If they are different color stones then it could be a Mothers ring. The large center stone would be the mothers birth month and the others would be each child. Someone commented that one was aquamarine. That would be December. Diamonds are April. Good luck finding out about the ring and possibly the owner.
Thanks for the great info Matthew! I’ll do a follow up when I know more. Thanks
Those cows make the entire video😂😂
Hahaha 🤣 agreed! 🐮
Im french and i remenber similars beaches i visited 30 years ago close to Inverness.
Thèse holidays was always in my mind cause of the sympathy of Scottish people in Edinburgh and Inverness and beautiful Highlands i discovered.

So did you have an ox roast? And if you get tired of walking just jump on one of those cows and ride awhile. A really beautiful place! Amazing finds.
That wind reminds me of here in South Africa... it always blows either NW or SE here ... but it ALWAYS blows! nice finds!
At first glance I thought; my goodness, that’s some BIG rocks 😅
Wow what a day John. Well done!
I think you owe Mrs. Scottish detectorist a night out. The gold is 18 karat. Beautiful place.
precious metals like jewelry can be marked in a number and if gold a K or ct for Karat/carat or they can be marked with three numbers like that ring with 750 or for the silver piece marked 925 for sterling. Sterling is 92.5% pure hence the 925. for gold it can be marked 18k or 750 because 18 is 75% of 24 (24 karat gold is pure 100% gold)
With that said below are some numbers you may see on gold
8k or 333
9k or 375
10k or 417
14k or 585
15k or 625 (slightly more uncommon where I'm from)
18k or 750
21k or 875
22k or 916
All the best, and great video as usual!
18K! John, you’ve found 18K!!😮😮Maybe there will be a notice about THAT at the beach shop!
Alas no reports but I left details. You never know!!
Pal i absolutely feel your pain ..had a day on the beach where i found 4 rings in one spot ..felt so bad for a long time ..reported to the police but never heard back..sad but so addictive..love the videos mate..ara best from Melbourne..👍🏻🏴
Well, bravo!! You are my lz better detectorists that I watch on TH-cam and in addition a very nice Cultular man who comments nicely. By nature you have to be very nice A man is bragging about it.Keep up the good work. Greetings from the Thames from London.Tom
What! No cow bells? But a St Pauli sweatshirt is good! Hi from near Hamburg!
That is a beautiful location, and some very good finds. I hope you can find who those items belong to, though it would be rather difficult I am sure. Cheers from Texas.
Thanks David. A stunning location and you can’t beat gold!
If you ever go detecting in Fife especially Tayport beach you have a chance of finding one or all of 5 gold rings of mine .The week I passed them on ( in the 80s )to my 12 y.o. daughter, she lost them !!!
Really love the cows! LOL...great finds!
The best! Highlight of the day 🤣

Hello from Adelaide, Australia John.
What Does 750 Mean?
A piece of jewelry with 750 inscribed on it is an arbitrary number. 750 is a significant mark indicating the quality of the item’s gold content. Why do jewelers use this marking system? Look at what 750 means on jewelry and why it’s so important.
750 indicates 18-karat gold in a piece of jewelry or any other item made from gold. This designation tells potential buyers that 75% of the total weight of the object consists of pure gold, while 25% consists of other alloy metals like silver or copper. The higher the karat rating (e.g., 24K = 100%), the higher its purity, thus value, and the associated price tag.
In addition to indicating purity level, having a 750 stamp also helps protect consumers from buying items made with lower-grade materials such as steel alloys or brass plating, which can be easily disguised by unscrupulous sellers looking to make a quick buck off unsuspecting customers who don’t know better. Knowing whether something has been stamped with “750” can help assure shoppers they are getting what they pay for when shopping for high-quality jewelry - ensuring that their purchase will last them longer and retain its luster over time without tarnishing quickly due to low-grade material composition within it.
So, there you have it: understanding what “750” stands for in jewelry gives you insight into its quality and value before investing in your purchase! Now let’s look at why 750 is used in jewelry specifically.
Why Is 750 Used in Jewelry?
The marking of “750” on jewelry is an essential indicator of its quality and value. It’s a common question that many people have; what does this number mean? In order to answer this, we need to take a look at the history of gold markings and their importance in the world of fine jewelry.
Gold has been used as currency since ancient times and for decorative purposes such as jewelry. As time progressed, it became necessary to regulate the purity of gold so that buyers could be sure they were getting what they paid for. This is where gold markings came into play - assuring that you are buying a genuine product with known qualities. The 750 stamp indicates 18K or 75% pure gold content, which is considered premium quality by industry standards.
The use of 750 stamps ensures that customers can trust they are purchasing authentic pieces made from high-quality materials. Not only does it guarantee that your piece will last longer due to its higher purity rating, but it also provides peace of mind when making an expensive purchase knowing exactly what you’re getting in return for your money. Knowing how to identify if your jewelry is marked with 750 allows you to make informed decisions about investing in luxury items safely and confidently.
Congrats John! Thanks for another stunning vlog.
Now i can see this place unbelievable and I figure can get strong storms raking in from north Atlantic
It can get rough in the winter but my goodness it’s beautiful
That’s funny with the cows on the beach!
Cracking video :) always enjoy your uploads !!
I bet if a person detected the beaches as long as you've detected land you'd have lots of jewelry. And your wife would be happier. :D
Stunning and a superb days detecting in anyone's book
