Clear pine makes beautiful furniture with it's softness and beautiful grain, while oak will make heritage pieces that last. Another great video from Emerald and Jade.

Is it possible that Emerald was even *more* polished and precise than usual explaining, in this video, all about clear boards and why knots can be undesirable? Also - she looks amazing (as per usual)

Emerald you did a fantastic job today with this video. With all sincerity I am quite literally smarter this afternoon than I was this morning when I woke up. Me being a carpenter for all of these years doing fine woodwork never would’ve even considered why the center of a tree may produce more knots in the middle the tree. Very cool information🙂👍

emerald is a jewel, she lives up to the birth name boss man and boss lady gave her on the day she was born.
clear / clearish pine boards are hard to find. it is so hard to find that we up here in connecticut have wide long clear pine imported from old growth forests from ( drum roll in the background ) the land of rutin tutin polutin pukin putin and the discovery channel show siberian cut.
the show did not have to many shows but the russian Communist dictator and his american republican counterpart a mr dick potato head (a dick tater or dictator) a trumpster dumpster.
and to prove that i am not a politician but want to party neutral. government issued GI Joe biden promised to withdraw peace keeping troops from Afghanistan against advice from military advisors. dum dum biden withdrew the peace keeping folks at a high cost of american lives and and Afghan folks and the impact on a generation women who are or will be abused by the talibani bananas. with the withdrawal of peace keepers the talbani claimed victory over russians and american infidels.
this might have left putin with with the idea that america is lossing the capability to fight for what is right and that is evident with dumpster trumpster disrespecting veterans for being captured by enemy forces. trump pulled his dick-tater-chip or ship by disrespecting honorable senator air force pilot john mccain who was shot down over vietnam and served a living hell on earth in a pow camp in north vietnam. i heard of fly boy man or person named john mccain from another navy veteran who was on board of the us forestal when pilot john mccain crashed landed on the deck of the forestal when micro waves caused problems of safely landing john's fighter jet. the veteran who told me this and i have the greatest respect for john mccain. and no respect for dumpster trumpster. in the scale of heroes and zeroes. senator mccain gets hero status. the donald scores a zero status.
      sorry for humble opinion.
on more thought maybe she can ask grandpa about the 60's and if he had hear the merry minuet sung by the kingston trio.
they sang that we should be thankful and tranquil and calm. man has the mushroom shaped cloud and we will all be blown away. hard to believe it is over 60 years ago and we still could be blown away. by the putin support scheme of nuclear weapons or blowing up nuclear plants like Chernobyl with conventional weapons.
      no win all lose situation.
i hope that i am wrong. i got to much fear. we have that mad mad world.

We trim the trunks up 10' on our white pines so that the trunks will grow clear on the outside. I do that on my black walnuts, as well. Clear pine is worth at least double the regular stuff. Boat builders in the maritimes build dories from white pine. It is very durable in salt water.

Emerald you are correct about the knots being closer to the center . the biggest clear board I have gotten on pine is 18" wide by 2" thick and 12 feet long.
If you could get a outdoor wood boiler and a insulated building you can drier pine with 180 degree air in about 4 to 7 days the trick is get the internal temp of the pine to 165 for 24 hours to set the pitch so it becomes solid. There is no dry rate on pine like hard woods at a 1 percent per day drop rate.
Keep up the good videos coming

I've never really given any consideration when using wood as to knots or not. If I am painting a project I will never paint without first sealing and priming the wood which will eliminate bleed out from knots. If I am applying a lacquer or stain then the character of the wood is what I want so yes the knots can be beautiful. I do enjoy the videos and have learned a lot from you as well as other subscribers as I read the comments, thank you.

Window and door lambs are often clear and that is so screws, for hinges, strikes, milling guides for frames and stops, mortises for various hardware, can all be placed without encountering a knot. And,, those jambs and frames are normally milled out of 5/4 and 6/4 stock. I have built hundreds of custom windows and doors, and 5/4 and 6/4 clear is perfect. Thanks, Bossman. You are spot on.

    • @Sailor376also
      @Sailor376also ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@bushmaster2936 KD is normal,, S4S is not always the case. Two of my local mills will surface 2 sides for me and give me a straight rip on one edge. That's all I need. Even the S2 really only needs S1. If the back face still has a bit of saw marks,, as long as the total thickness is true to my needs,, I'm good. Most of my big work is long behind me. (I'm old.) The one house,, almost 30 years ago,, just shy of 120 openings (lotsa windows) and a pair of French doors for the entry, each 3'0" X 8'0"X 2.25 thick. If you wish to spec your own,, and you are in the midwest, L.L. Johnson, Charlotte, Michigan. They can pre mill it for you any way you like,, as large and order or as small an order as you need. Devereau Sawmill (sp?) west of Lansing, larger orders. Both have mills and kilns.

You are actually pretty close on your hypothesis about the knots near the center of the logs. The center 10 to 15 growth rings constsitute juvenile wood and that is where the most knots will be. Sometimes knots will be even further out as you supposed. The funny thing about the juvenile wood is that it will shrink lengthwise as well as in width and thickness. Good job!

Is the hypothetical type. Pretty juvenile in your hypothesis, almost like we need a hypoallergenic to void out this highly educating word of the day hypothesi. But at least we all now know you are way too overqualified for what you actually do.
