The word "Justified" means that it was done for a good / legitimate reason.
Leon had every opportunity to walk away or get help after Sayaka was stuck in the bathroom. True, the others might not believe him, and yes he was probably scared out of his mind. But the fact remains that he did kill Sayaka when he had every chance to escape without anyone dying. I'm not saying I dislike or hate him for it, many people (probably myself included) would have been similarly scared out of our minds. So while understandable, I wouldn't say it is justified.
Mondo, similarly, did not have to kill Chihiro. He's emotionally unstable, and flew into a rage. It was understandable that he ended up acting that way, but it was not justifed. This coming from a Mondo fan myself. And it was very kind of him to try and hide the secret of Chihiro's gender, still doesn't make the murder justified.
Kiyotaka's murder is slightly more justified. Hifumi was under two false assumptions. Firstly, that Kiyotaka had threatened Celestia. And secondly, that Alter Ego was in immediate danger. Alter Ego may be an AI, but as shown in Danganronpa 2 with Chiaki, I think we can say that AI is alive in some shape or form. Hifumi was an idiot, and should have shared this information with everyone so Kiyotaka wouldn't kill either of them, as it would surely get him an execution. While stupid, the motive has good intent behind it. I don't know if I would call it justified, but it's much more justified than Leon and Mondo's motives.
Celestia is not justified in the slightest. While Hifumi was a murderer, she made him one by manipulating him into committing the murder in the first place. On top of that, her motive was not to get rid of a murderer, it was to obtain the cash prize reward. Her killing is probably the least justifiable in the whole series.
Sakura's death was completely justified. She killed herself as she (probably correctly) assumed that her continued presence would merely cause more chaos and confusion. It's unlikely that the survivors would have ever united if Sakura was still there, as Byakuya, Toko and Yasuhiro would have trouble trusting her. While incredibly tragic, Sakura probably had one of the most justifiable motives in the whole series.
Mukuro's death was not justified. While she had committed atrocious acts, being justified means that the reasoning behind it must be good or legitimate. Junko's reason for killing Mukuro is so for despair. So both of them could feel the utter despair of their beloved sibling dying, or by being betrayed. The most you can say is that Junko is mentally ill, which isn't justifiable, but provides the insight that she was (in an absolutely insane and incorrect way) trying to do good to others the only way she knew how. This goes for pretty much all of Junko's murders. However, and I'll say it loud, MENTAL ILLNESS IS NOT AN EXCUSE FOR MURDER.
The Imposter's murder was justified...? Teruteru wanted to kill the killer before they killed anyone else. Seems fair. The point of contention is that instead of revealing that he was the murderer, he tried to let everyone else die so he could escape and visit his mother. Here's the thing though, that goes for pretty much every other murderer in the series. While trying to get everyone else to die isn't justifiable, this murder specifically was. So I guess disclaimer, trying to get the rest of the class killed isn't justifiable, for anyone. But the murder alone in this case, was justifiable.
Peko is not justified. if her goal was only to protect Fuyuhiko, she could have done this by preventing him from killing Mahiru, something she could easily do. Instead, she chose to kill Mahiru for the purpose of letting Fuyuhiko escape while everyone else died. This is amoral as her plan would have caused everyone to die for one person to live. I did say I wouldn't count actions taken after the murder had taken place, however, in this case the plan was for everyone else to die from the start. She did the killing with this goal in mind, unlike everyone else up until this point (exception being Junko obviously).
In my eyes, Mikan's killings cannot be justified because it was not her who killed them. By any reasonable metric, Junko killed them herself. As the DR3 anime has shown us, Mikan was literally brainwashed. That was not her anymore, her free will was taken away from her and was replaced by, essentially, Junko Lite. Mikan literally did not have any choice in the matter, it was not her fault.
Gundham is justified. It was pretty implied that he and Nekomaru made an unspoken pact to kill one of them so that the rest could survive. The plan and idea was for both of them to sacrifice themselves. One could argue otherwise, as Gundham clearly did not reveal himself during the trial, I personally interpret that as him simply getting cold feet. While this one is very much up for interpretation, I believe Gundham to be justified.
Nagito was surprisingly 100% justified. The Remnants of Despair were mass murderers who caused the near-end of the world. He devised a plan to spare the world and kill the problem at the source, while sparing the only one who was truly innocent. Even though they were brainwashed, they were major threats. If even one of the Remnants of Despair was able to escape with their memories intact, the world would be in severe danger. So honestly, yeah, Nagito was justified. Weird.
Although, side note, Nagito was NOT justified for the attempted murder in Chapter 1. While good-intentioned, it's good-intentioned on the same level of mental illness as Junko. His motives are pure, but he's being corrupted by his worldview, making his actions despicable.
(Also Chiaki is obviously justified, she killed him on complete accident)
Kaede was obviously justified. There was a timer ticking down towards the death of all 16 students. According to Shuichi's deductions, the one in charge of all of this was likely among them. Kaede wanted to spare everyone else by killing one person who was very, very likely to be the Mastermind. The fact that it wasn't was a tragic accident, but it still saved everyone else. Kaede's motive was pure and her intention true.
Ryoma consented to his death. I don't know what else to say. Ryoma let himself die for a greater purpose, so Kirumi was justified in killing him. Her intention was to save an entire nation, even if I was counting her trying to kill the rest of the students, saving a country full of people is a very justifiable motive.
Korekiyo was not justified. His manipulation at the hands of his sister certainly existed, but she was not the one making him kill all those innocent girls. She was not guiding him towards this goal as Celestia did to Hifumi. The best you could say is that he was mentally ill, similarly to Junko. But once again, while providing insight to his (somewhat) good intentioned motives, being mentally ill is not an excuse for his awful actions.
Gonta was justified in a similar way Hifumi was. He was shown the despair of the "real" world and wished to save everyone from it. Not only that, but Miu was planning on killing Kokichi, and he wished to stop that. He was manipulated, and he did bad things, but he was good intentioned on every level. While a bit of a dumb move, he wanted to help people. Justified.
Kokichi is also justified for his own murder. And so was Kaito. Kokichi wanted to end the Killing Game, his death would have caused that. Pretty simple in this case.
HOWEVER, like with Nagito, he was not justified for the death of Miu / Gonta. The best I can figure out was that his plan was to have Miu killed because he needed the current survivors to believe he was the Mastermind in Chapter 5. Miu would have known it was bullshit, as she designed the weapons he used in the first place. Gonta seems to have just been collateral damage. He never truly intended to keep Gonta's murder a secret. While this did tie into his overall plan to end the killing game, I can't say that it is justified. Unlike with his Chapter 5 plan, he killed two other people when he knew full well he did not have to. I believe he only did so because he did not trust that no other killings would occur without his interference. So... I can see why some would think he was justified, as his plan would stop the entire killing game, but his plan had a few holes in it. Mainly, the fact that Tsumugi messed his plan up with the flashback light. I think that he MIGHT have been good-intentioned, but his way of going about it was going way too far. I can't say that he was justified for that.
You also didn't mention Junko's death, Tsumugi's death or Rantaro's death at the hands of Tsumugi. Junko's was plain old suicide, for the sake of her despair. Suicide due to mental illness, understandable, not justifiable. Tsumugi was killed by Keebo, but it's hard to tell how much of it was on purpose. Either way, justfiied, as it freed the remaining cast (which he did seem to want to save). Lastly, Tsumugi was not justified in killing Rantaro just for the sake of her story. Obviously.

    • @Seraserastria
      @Seraserastria 2 ปีที่แล้ว +43

      TLDR
      Justified People Include:
      Hifumi Yamada
      Sakura Ogami
      Teruteru Hanamura
Mikan Tsumiki (Although I don't count these as her kills because she was brainwashed)
      Gundham Tanaka
Nagito Komaeda (Only for his assisted suicide, his attempt to kill in Chapter 1 was not)
      Chiaki Nanami
      Kaede Akamatsu
      Kirumi Tojo
      Gonta Gokuhara
Kokichi Ouma (Only for his assisted suicide, his plan that killed Miu & Gonta was not)
      Kaito Momota
      K1-B0
Just because someone's killing isn't justifiable, doesn't mean that they are awful or evil or a bad character. While that may be the case sometimes, justifiable just means that the killing was done for a good reason. E.G. Mondo did not kill Chihiro for a good reason, yet we understand why we did so and empathize with him because he is not a bad person at heart.

    • @Seraserastria
      @Seraserastria 2 ปีที่แล้ว +34

Also, I suppose for the sake of rounding it all out, let's cover attempted murders (other than Nagito's that I already mentioned).
Sayaka is in a weird place. She wanted to kill Leon with the purpose of saving her band. Technically, one life against four isn't a bad trade. But, there was no guarantee she could even save them in the first place... so I'm going to say this one isn't justified.
Yasuhiro & Genocider attempted to kill Sakura. Yasuhiro did so out of cowardice, there were little to no signs pointing to her trying to kill him. Not justified. Genocider is surprisingly more justified, as she was awoken by a bloody Sakura right in front of her. This is much more justification for thinking she was going to die, and she defended herself. Of course, it goes without saying that Genocider's previous murders are not justified.
Junko attempts to kill Makoto (or kills Kyoko in the alternate ending). This is clearly not justified, doing both of these in the efforts to cover her own plans up. And I'm just going to say it here, none of Junko's, Monokuma's or Tsumugi's kills or attempted kills are justified. Clearly.
Fuyuhiko seemed to have full intent to kill Mahiru. This would not have been justified, but he didn't take any actual action to kill her. So neither way I suppose. However, he was not justified in killing Sato, nor was Sato justified in killing Natsumi. Murder was not the primary option in either scenario.
The Nagito Russian Roulette scene is curious, but if he was hoping for death, it would have been unjustified.
Miu was not justified in attempting to kill Kokichi. She claimed that the world needed her brain, but if she truly believed it to that extent she was delusional. I personally believe she was just saying that to convince her into actually following through with it, she was stammering before Kokichi even insulted her. Either way, not justified.
K1-B0's original plan was to bury the school and everyone in it, including the completely innocent Shuichi, Maki, Himiko and (to his knowledge) Tsumugi. This is counterintuitive to his goal, killing them is not saving them in any capacity.

Alot of people are trying to justify Kokichi Manipulating Gonta to kill Miu in V3 Chapter 4 which is stupid because their were many other options available.
He could of asked Gonta to tie her up.
He could have not told everyone to go along with Mius plan (He confirms he lured them during his confession in the trial).
He could have just not asked Monokuma to put a secret in the simulator as thats what convinced anyone to even check out the virtual world.
    He could of logged out.
Miu's plan relied on Kokichi in the virtual world as that was where she had "Total Control" Miu did not want to kill him outsude the simulator.
Because of all these other options thst were available and relatively easy to think of especially for Someone like Kokichi this murder can't be justified even if it was for a higher end goal.

Korekiyo being the culprit behind both Angie and Tenko's murder always annoys me, mainly because of the amounts of missed and wasted opportunities there were in this one chapter alone. Mainly the First Come First Serve rule that was added.
The real tragedy about this that I wouldn't mind the idea of Korekiyo murdering Tenko, if they changed it to having Tenko being Angie's murderer. That way, they could've used the First Come First Serve rule, and use the Necronomicon to temporarily bring Tenko back from the dead, only to execute her minutes later.

      @OmnicidalClown1992 2 ปีที่แล้ว +34

@@georges227 I mean, there was Genocider Syo in the original Danganronpa game. But that's not the reason why I was annoyed about Korekiyo being the one who killed both Angie and Tenko, I'm annoyed because on how it ruined a lot of the character dynamic between Tenko and Angie and their relationship with Himiko.
What I mean is the amount of build-up during the events of Chapters 1, 2 and 3 and how it kinda sorta abruptly it ends. I say kinda sorta ends because it does make Himiko undergo a significant change between how she was before the events of Chapter 3 and how she changed in Chapter 4 and onward. The problem is the dynamic between Tenko and Angie.
During the course of V3's story, both Angie and Tenko wanted to befriend Himiko, but both had different approaches. Tenko was shown to be loving, caring and loyal towards Himiko, even fully admitting that she was in love with Himiko. Angie on the other hand, was more of a sweet talker, using her charm, and love for Atua to persuade Himiko to join her. Himiko, being lazy minded, was easily persuaded by Angie, much to Tenko's dismay. Tenko did everything she could to protect Himiko from Angie, but Himiko took Tenko's approach and warnings for granted. But then, Trial 2 happens. Himiko is seen as the primary suspect when it came to Ryoma's murder. Tenko did everything she could to protect Himiko from being seen as the culprit, so much so that many of the other students were moved by her loyalty and love, mainly Shuichi. Angie, on the other hand immediately tossed Himiko under the bus by pointing to her as the culprit behind Ryoma's murder. Despite this however, Himiko still remained loyal to Angie and her God Atua.
Chapter 3 then happens, and Angie is taking things too far. She created a student council, which let's be honest was a cult in disguise, and managed to convinced half of the students to join her cult, which includes Himiko, Tsumugi, K1-B0, Gonta and, surprisingly, Tenko of all people. This however, turned out to be a rogue, as Tenko only joined to protect Himiko from Angie's manipulative ways. And when the Necronomicon was added to the mix, of which Angie was planning on using the Necronomicon to bring Rantaro back from the dead, Tenko began to grow more and more desperate to save Himiko. She ended asking the help from Shuichi and Maki to convince Angie to stop what she was doing, and most likely convince her to stop brainwashing Himiko. The plan failed and Angie continued with the satanic ritual.
Now, with everything I said and all the build up that was transpiring during those 3 chapters, where was there any indication that Korekiyo was planning on commiting a murder in order to please the spirit of his dead sister? If anything, it felt like that Tenko was originally gonna be the one to murder Angie, but, (and keep in mind this based on an assumption,) the developers must've realized that it would be too obvious, so they tacked on this part that comes out of nowhere, killed both Tenko and Angie, mostly because all 3rd trials in a Danganronpa game has to be a double murder, and the culprit is supposed to be a psychopath, and we're supposed to be okay about it. Well, guess what? It's not! And as a result, this one trial is often classified as one of the worst trials in the Danganronpa franchise, with the only one, arguably, being worst, is the 3rd trial in Danganronpa 2.
And the worst part is that is wasn't that difficult to add all the events that happened in Chapter 3 and still have a similar result, with the only major difference is that Tenko would've been the Blackened, and Korekiyo would still be alive. Hell, I came up with the idea to how to fix this trial in a few minutes without much effort. No joke.

there was a narrative purpose to that though. The whole trial Kokichi and Korekiyo push this idea that Tenko's death never mattered, but through the fact that he was the first killer as well and Tenko's death brought light to evidence around that, thus making Tenko's death matter and bringing justice to the dude, all for the sake of Himiko's arc. I'd say that's more compelling than the vague potential of a surviving killer.

I just feel like there's an issue with the concept. You say that this video is about justifying all murders, but you aren't justifying them, you are excusing or in some cases explaining them.
You can't justify murder, because saying that someone is justified in killing someone is saying they did nothing wrong, which just isn't true objectively.
In actuality what you're doing is excusing the murder by giving us reasons behind why each killer did what they did. Excuses exist not to justify what someone did but explain why they did it, those reasons are in some cases understandable and might make people sympathise with them, but that's all it is an excuse or a reason why they did it.
In the end it justifies nothing, because killing someone is not justifyable.

However the murders would probably feel like distractions to the surviving students in their attempts to escape. And not to mention how does a killer live with themselves afterwards being technically responsible for the deaths of the rest of their classmates. While I can understand the desperation to survive and that I’m just as likely to succumb to it as everyone else, i C also feel that there is no point in surviving if you feel so horrible and broken afterwards. I really feel like people try to justify Leon's killing too much with that clip from the anime. It became not self defense once she locked herself in the bathroom. When he left, went to his room and got the kit, came back and busted down the door, and then stabbed her, that is not self defense. He was in a messed up predicament that was hard to even begin to deal with but he did not murder Sayaka in self defense but for self preservation, if we are gonna use the excuse of him not being believed.

Yeah true but if he let Sayaka go. She would probably tell everyone Leon tried to murder her. Leon would say the same but everyone would probably believe Sayaka over Leon since Sayaka had a broke wrist Leon would be avoided by all his classmates and probably locked up out of everyone’s fear he would try to murder someone again. It would not end so well for my boi either way. If I was in Leon’s situation I would not know what to do. I would probably kill Sayaka too in fear of what she’d tell everyone

not for nothing at the end of the story, he told Hajime/Izuru, he knew he could trust you, he knew you would reach the lowest stratum...

11037 will never be justified as that long sailed when he ran to get his toolkit to get into the bathroom to kill Sayaka. Even if she intended to kill, running and telling everyone about her was the best solution. Not going back for a rather violent round 2.
Mondo.....just no. Jealous rage is no reason to kill.
Hifumi...not really. He's an idiot and listened to someone who's good at deception that just happened to be a girl, just like alter ego appeared to look like 😢 everything he did was of one selfish mind.
Celeste couldn't have been more wrong with her accomplice choice or murder attempt, given Hifumi not being smart enough, they could've gotten away with it.....kinda. It's also a case of "eye for an eye leaves the world blind" type of deal here. It couldn't have evened it out because a murderer murdered the accomplice that murdered for the murderer that.....anyway...
    Sakura 😭
Mukuro really only died because of Junko, and that girl is justified in nothing lol
Teruteru was actually justified. Catching Nagito appearing to attempt a murder was mere chance. But going out his way to attempt to murder the soon-to-be murderer before he did so, respect. Nagito would play "blackened roulette" with the class later on
Peko basically did her job as Fuyuhiko's right hand. She still murdered. But I didn't like Mahiru.
Mikan was under the despair disease. It's like "everything was just a blur", still murderer.
Nagito....was random. The case was quite solvable, take away the RNG that was the grenades, and I think that's what has me still scratching my head at it. I get the reason but....
Kaede meant to kill who she thought was the mastermind, unfortunately she hit the wrong target.
Kirumi....still wrong. To throw in my own cognitive dissonance style mental gymnastics, I can consider it a mercy killing considering Ryoma actually stayed put and asked her to do the deed. However, being one of the expendable prime ministers doesn't exclude her from the rules.
Korekiyo....only would've been justified if he did all of that to himself.
Gonta...is just feral Hifumi so I felt bad for the poor guy. Only thing that was going to save him was the fact that he "forgot" what happened upon leaving the game.
Kokichi, he.....ok, I have nothing much for him. Talking with at least 2 other people away from the same class would've helped this at least.

She even made sure it would've been in Makoto's room in order to pin the blame on him. Of course this came through her desperation and it didn't actually end up happening, but that is the truth of what was going on. And i doubt that she would just admit to it in the trial.
And this isn't even mention how there was a possibility the message left behind in her death possibly could have been left not out of care for makoto, but an emotional reaction leading to spite for leon in that moment (or maybe a mix of both)

None of these are “justified” except for Chiaki’s, and even then that's literally because she had no idea what was going on.
Leon had every chance to run away and tell everyone what happened but he still went out of his way to kill her. Mondo may have had a trauma response but that doesn't excuse killing Chihiro. Celeste is straight up not justified lol. Sakura’s wasn't a murder so I won't count this. Even though Mukuro was a war criminal I don't think she deserved to die with spears piercing her body.
Teruteru could've just kept distracting Nagito or something instead of just trying to kill him. Peko killing Mahiru is not excusable and both her and Fuyuhiko premeditated this so no they weren't just “going to chat”. Mikan still took lives and don't forget she was the only character who fell into despair without that stupid video. Gundham’s is understandable however he still tried to cover it up.
Kaede still tried to take a life, it's understandable but not justified. Ryoma never really “consented” to dying he just didn't say anything. For all Kirumi knows that video could be fake with how outlandish it is. I know Korekiyo was abused but it still doesn't justify killing two people. Gonta had no reason to trust Kokichi with his claims, so his murder is not justified. Kaito is a confusing one because it was more of Kokichi taking his own life so I won't count it here.
