Since this is more expensive than the GX80, do you recommend spending money on this camera, or saving for good glass, eg the Summilux 15mm f/1.7 and a GX80? My main use will be street photography. I will also use vintage lenses with an adapter.
If it's for street photography, definitely GX80 is more than enough, and 15mm f1.7 is a very good lens for this purpose. Actually I couldn't think of any use that Leica should be considered, except if you want the rangefinder experience, or just have money to spend.
I bought one on the first day of availability thinking it would be the hold grail of everyday carry camera. It has all the features-flat top, flip screen, small size, nice styling and the viewfinder with tilt as a bonus. I can live without audio plugs. But when I got it in hand I was disappointed by the feel after getting used to the quality of the of the Fuji X100 series. It just felt kind of cheap as you mentioned. I returned it. I had hoped that the new Lumix LX100mkii might have added a flip screen but no. So I bought a Olympus OMD Em5 mkii but the menu complexity is killing me. It makes me think that I should reconsider the GX 9 now that the price has dropped so much. Hmmmm. Maybe wait and see what happens with the new Ricoh GR.
Thanks for the review! Looks like the new B&W mode does a very good job in producing very useable jpgs, something I am looking for in a camera. I think I read that the EVF is the same as in the GX85, at least in terms of resolution and technology? I tried the GX85, but the smallish viewfinder image was a big turnoff and even the original X100 is superior (at least in terms of image size and/or magnification.) Even my old Panasonic G5 (not GH5!) has a much larger EVF. Anyway, great job in the street shots and looking forward to seeing more of you work with or without a new camera review. God bless.
It's rated lower than previous models but I didn't feel any difference, keeping the LCD off helps but I have no measure of how much it helps. I should raw + small JPEG and use JPEG if it's good enough.
I love the L monochrome D B&W jpeg setting. Very satisfying contrasty and crushes the blacks.

Lovely photos, thank you.
Minimum shutter speed - fabulous didnt know that and waiting on my GX9 to be delivered today :-))
Beautiful images!
Thank you for posting this review!
From what I can make of the results, it can do the job.

Definitely, I used GR 2 for a while, it's a great camera for street photography, hope GR 3 would keep improving.
Since it’s been a year now why don’t you opt for the new X100V?
Thank you for your review

Thanks a lot! Yes the EVF is still the same, a bit disappointing, especially if you used GX8 which has much better EVF.
Can turn off the Lcd screen to shoot?
Yes, actually Panasonic mirrorless has this feature for a while.
so how is the battery life? and do you shoot raw+jpeg?

Still using this camera or did you get a new one?
Yes I'm still using it, so far so good.
