I can't find the Metanium at Japan Import Tackle. In fact, I can only find a total of 5 reels. Does the 2020 Metanium MGL use the Infinity brake systsem with only 4 brakes instead of the IDC5 brake system? If yes, my questions is the change???
What line did you use in this video? I decided to buy this reel even though i prefer Daiwa. And till now used only braid. Thinking of using metanium with fluorocarbon
Very nice reel,I honestly think that mojo bass rod has somewhat to do with that long cast, too,I have one of my own and I think it’s one of the best casters out there,I appreciate you spent time doing review on this reel,I have been thinking about adding one to my collection.
I paid $250 for this reel in August of 2022 and I am so grateful that the Yen to Dollar exchange rate is what it is at the moment. I'm stocking up on reels I've always wanted but were just out of my price range. I'm going for my first DC reel next!
@@atamagashock I know! I bought a bunch of JDM jig heads when I got my metanium, I think the reel itself was more like $235. It's less than a Curado DC from Tackle Warehouse. No brainer!!!
@@zoterocitlalcoatl9564 I just bought the 2022 metanium shallow today. Was $283 to my doorstep. Hopefully will have it in the next week. Last time I ordered my scorpion it came in 4 or 5 days. Couldn’t believe it
Trying to decide between the US and JDM version. I will be using braid and it will be an all around setup. Any advice on how they perform with the different spools?
how smooth is it now? I have seen some say its not so smooth over time, even after cleaning and oiling, thanks Im looking for a dedicated pitching reel
You say cross wind but when you cast that light plastic the wind is partially behind you. And because its a physically big plastic the wind grabs the lure and assists. You quite plainly cast in a different direction with the first cast. Always do casting comparisons when its still as a priority.
I have not fished with one of these reels, but have considered springing for one. I'm not super advanced in my casting, and have recently started using non-DC reels that I previously only used for underhand pitching applications. I did get to see one of these reels up close and it seemed to me that the spool is considerably narrower from side to side than my other shimanos (Curados, chronarchs, etc.). It looked as if the line was piled much more vertically on that narrower spool, and just wondered if my observation was not correct, and if so how that narrower spool affect the cast/ line coming off the spool?
I have this set up (us version) with my Shimano Zodias 7.5MH (2020 version rod), tried it no wind. I get around 100 ft max on a 1/2 ounce weight and around 115 ft on a 1 ounce. I have both left and right retrieve I'm considering really returning the item.
There actually is a difference, the American model has bigger knobs, a bigger spool and some people say it’s smoother and casts farther then the Japanese version
I have actually used the Metanium 20 more this season. I think it throws lighter lures a little better. The DC is great for skipping and throwing into the wind though. I tend to use the DC for things like top water or jerkbaits since they have a larger profile and can be caught in the wind more.
Hi there, I just received my metanium and spooled it. noticed that even I loose the star drag to minimum, there are still a lot of drag that i have to pull the line hard to release the line. Is it only me, or it is designed like that?
I know it's 3yrs. later but I had the same issue with mine. I took the handle off and noticed that the screw that holds the handle was way too tight so I loosen the screw and put it back on tight but not overtightened and it totally fixed the issue. Now there's no extra drag pressure when the star drag is backed off.
I just got the USA version for $314 including tax and shipping. I can't wait for it to arrive. The next closest reel I have money wise is my curado dc.
Why you haven’t even try to skip a jig with this reel?! Every time I borrow a reel for testing purposes, I always do that. Btw Antares DC will outcast this Met in lures 1/2oz and heavier.
I have skipped it since. It works pretty good. But I actually prefer to use lighter finesse lures with this reel. And I’m not surprised the Antares performs better. That’s the real top of the line
@@WarEagleTheBest Dude no shit, idk what size bass you've caught, nor how much time you've spent on the water.. But a Shimano can do it easily. The only problem I have with shimano is lack of drag
correct. JPD version is smaller. So it can hold slightly less line. I just pulled the spec. The JDM version hold 110 yards of 10lbs test and the 150 size hold 120 yards of 10 lbs test.

You don't know what inertia is and you're doing baitcaster reviews. It's MOMENTUM you were referring to while the spool is spinning. Inertia is the initial resistance to move from a still state. Once that's overcome, what you have is momentum.
It isn’t initial resistance. Inertia is defined by a property of matter which it continues in its existing state of rest OR uniform motion unless acted on by an external force. So while it is true of initially being still holding inertia. The same is to be said when the bait loses MOMENTUM and is no longer pulling on the spool causing the spool to overrun because of INERTIA. Which again is a constant force or still force.
