THE REEL TEST how does this compare to the Metanuim mgl? Which ones better ?
we will have to find out on the field. I can say the DC is better if you arent great at casting and setting up brakes.
Do you think senkos would work well with this reel? Or do you recommend another dc reel?
In your opinion does the metanium idc5 seem the same as the 17 scorpion aside from the reel/spool/bearing differences? Wondering if it's worth getting a metanium used or a new 21 jdm scorpion... I have a upgraded 17 scorpion I added bearings where bushings were as well as micro module and love it. Just don't know if it's worth the extra money for idc 5 still..

I have a Shimano Metanium MGL and the Metanium DC. Both AMAZING reels.
One cast with the Metanium MGL and I was in Love. Total precision, smooth as silk, crazy castable and amazing.
Fast forward a year later and I bought the Metanium DC. Can actually cast farther with less thumb management.
Reluctant to buy due to the sound (whine) when casting but have learned to love it.
The sound provides an audible measurement of the spool speed which helps you manage the line.
When on a bassboat, sometimes you are casting into the wind on one cast and then abeam on a cast and then with the wind. The Metanium DC helps make these casts easier with less thumb management.
For me, when I can only grab only one Baitcasting reel to fish, I grab the Metanium DC.
But, just ordered a Shimano Alderbaram BFS (Bait Finesse System) so......the BSF may become my preferred Baitcasting reel.

Try to get your hands on some favorite rods... I just picked up the phantom.. Love it.
The only downside of this reel is that mosquito sound when you cast, I know some people like it for me it’s just annoying lol, great vid btw👍

Need something a little lighter than my calais to flip all day and switch off. Antares having have no tension knob turns me off. Poor curados and chronarch dont see much water since dc investment so will sell a cupl and grab another dc. Obv metanium dc is better but how much better

How’s does the new latest matanium dc compare to the 2017 scorpion dc? Size wise Is there much difference? What do to you prefer to use?
Ok so im loving your vids. But that DC im noticing on 2 and 1 braking if you up tension control one to two notches it will not backlash. I have my SLX DC at 1 on braking and upped my tension control. On a top water walking bait.

Just bought a used metanium dc for $200 on eBay. Works the same as a new reel

I have a question..do you have a general idea what the difference is between the shimano 15 metanium dc and the shimano 17 metanium dc? I would suspect that is has to do with the model year, but no one has ever covered this, that I can find. Also was there, in some kind of improvement between the 15s 16s and 17s? If you know and could reply, that would be great.

I don't think you answer comments here but if you do. I'm using 20 lb braid with 20 lb flouro leader, about 18". I'm setting to Braid internally and trying to use 2 as a setting on for 1/2 oz and 1/4 oz on a 6 ft rod. What would be your settings for those weights on that line? Only doing this for a couple of months so not getting anywhere near the distance you are. I'm happy with 75 feet. Been casting at a post 54 feet away and that's consistent. Gotta sling it to get 75 feet. Casting side armed. Overhand is ...... not good yet.
What lure are you throwing? and what is your spool tension set at? Try all the different line settings because I can sneeze and the Metanium DC will cast 100 ft lol. Also thats a pretty heavy leader for that light of braid

Hey man just wondering I just got my metanium today and havnt has a chance to cast it yet but I have the curado dc and slx dc and when you reel them really fast they will make that chip sound but when I do the metanium it doesn’t make the sound do you know why?
Yeah I used mine now it does it just on the cast but my curado DC and SLX DC does it if you free spool with out casting do you know why it’s different?
This may the wrong test , if the mode suit to line then fast strike will start system work, right ?

I own the scorpion dc. What part are you suppose to oil every few fishing trips other then a complete oil and grease once a year? I cant find any info on that. Would appreciate the help!!
The oil is for the bearings if they need it. Other than that nothing on DC reels needs oiling. Just go out and enjoy

The scorpion dc is an awesome reel for the money. Its a great dc reel without the huge price tag and it has the same dc as the metanium dc. Casts in the wind with ease and its nice to put it on auto and works great with all sized lures. I have it paired with a 7ft MH Favorite Big sexy. So that set up can be used for many different applications.

I’m ordering a reel tomorrow for my dads 50th he’s always wanted a dc reel would you say this is the best one for someone who back lashes almost every cast on a regular bait caster
I have a the scorpion dc which has basically the same performance. I would say its the best you are going to get for a backlasher/beginner. fishermen don't really use baitcasters in the country I am from so I had zero experience and I love my scorpion dc, its not fool-proof, i still get backlashes here and there, but once you dial it in and get used to it after a few casts, you will fall in love with it!

Hello from Brasil! just found your channel and i have to say that you have great content about reels here, thank you ! im watching old and new videos and it is very informative. bit boring when u measure by walking all the castings, why not put some colored flags on each distance?.....Here we have a brand named " marine sports", REALLY popular here, they have some high quality reels (carbon fiber body and so, ) specialy "venator" series and "black widow" series ..So if u could put some of this on test against whatever u have in hand, it will be amazing, and maybe you get some subs from brazil too...great job so far, thank you for walking that much :D

Ive read that the early models shut down if the DC unit got wet, but worked again once it dried. Not sure about the newer reels

Theres no one perfect reel but some come close. Metanium DC is close, but I want to see if it casts any better than the Scorpion DC.
How about aldebaran ? So confusing.. Cause i just can see in online shop..
its good but the metanium has more line capacity and will cast a little farther.
THE REEL TEST i just fishing snakehead in my country... So many grass in the small river .. I never cast farther than 30yards.. Are the aldebaran worth tp buy sir???

Why do you always use yellow line? And do you ever use braid or flo
I use the yellow line because its cheap and you can see it. When Im actually trying to catch fish I use straight Flouro 95% of the time

You can purchase it straight from Japan on digitaka.com. The exchange rate isn't super great at the moment, so it'll run about $410.
You didn’t adjust the spool tension per the lure you’re throwing. Which probably f’ks up the computer.
Sorry for a later reply however with dc reels the spool tension is only for the axial movement of the spool. Not lure. Hope this helps!

The reason they have "N" for nlyon, and don't say "M" for monofilament, is that the Japanese understand the difference, between what material something is, and its physical construction. FLUROCARBON IS MONOFILAMENT TOO. But Americans for some reason don't get this.
To me the Metainium DC is better than the antares dc, when they did away with the spool tension knob they ruined that reel!
Someone said that the spool tension is now that knurled ring inside the reel surrounding that screw. I found that to be correct. Inconvenient but it does adjust the spool tension
THE REEL TEST you know why even when that ring is tighten all the way my spool on the antares still wobble

Jeff Simms most fisherman cast “lefty” and reel “righty”. Not the best way but guessing it is because they started out with spinning gear.
I never understood why even using a right-handed reel as a right-handed fisherman. I'm right-handed, i have the most power and feeling in that hand. Rod in my right hand, reeling with the left hand. I never have to switch after cast. Once tried a right handed reel, that was awful (for me!). I dont see any advantage in using my rod with the left hand. Can someone explain me if there are any real advantages?
this is not a new baitcaster is it buddy as iv looked and was out in 2015 don't think there is a new 18 reel out and there is a lot of baitcasters out there iv looked at on youtube that guys are not even thumbing when lure hits water and there was no overrun like the daiwa steez " so maybe these are just toys to play with on the metanium dc
I never said it was new, watch what I said in the tabletop video.. and ANY reel can be set up to go absolutely thumb free even when the lure hits the water. Its not a big deal. I will however put this up against any Steez.
Was going on you saying you had to wait a while in the unboxing video last week you posted"" and think that's coming from a shimano fan boy there mate but does look a good reel but cannot wait to see if its around $150 better than its newer brother the scorpion dc
Yeah spaced out the unboxing because I dont want to have 1 unboxing after another if I can help it. I want to try to mix it up. Yes we will find out if the Scorpion is. I know Shimano does engineer some differences between their lower models vs their higher end. So the IDC 5 for the Scorpion may have a different brake profile but we will see.

Your thumbing the reel at the end. Not a real test. You won't break that rod. No the key is accuracy. How old are you?? How many years of fishing do you have? I going to say 5 years to 8 years max. And your teenage years don't count towards your experience. I am guessing your 25 yrs old max.
