For some sequences, I did use 3D renders for the purposes of highlighting certain things about the unit - I suppose I wanted it to be somewhat more visually engaging than just still tripod shots and elevate its production value! Really they only serve as visual additions, but functional tests and review of the unit were done with the physical device :)
