- An update on the condition of 16x Funny Car Champion John Force was released Monday night following his violent crash on Sunday at the NHRA Virginia Nationals, we'll go over the statement and talk about the potential future of the most famous ride in Funny Car for this weekends race in Norwalk, Ohio.

Can you imagine the shock of the attending doctor, who likely knows nothing about drag racing, upon hearing there is an incoming patient who just suffered a crash at 302 mph - and then the further shock of learning this race car driver is 75 years old! God speed John, best wishes!
Imagine said Doc watching the video of that 302 MPH wad up and realizing the lateral movement g forces that could separate internal organs??

As someone who is 67 no matter how great a shape you think you're in you heal rather slowly it's just a fact of life when you're old
John, I too will be 67 in six months. Like you pointed out, you heal rather slowly compared to when you were say in your 30's, 40's and even early 50's. Knowing this, I try to avoid, as much as possible, situations where I may be injured. A man has to know his limits!

Concussion a definite possibility as well as internal injury from the shock his entire body experienced - soft tissue, connective tissues, bones, organs - all experiencing those impact forces. I’m praying for him and his recovery. Thanks for this video update!👍👍

My hat is off to you Gary. Whether you were racing Drag Boats or K Boats, no matter what. you have got to be "Tough as Nails." Hitting a guard rail or hitting the water at over 150 mph there comes a time where the only intelligent thing to do is, thank God that you've survived a career doing what your passion was and being able to walk away. Your kind of racer, just like John, needs NOT to have to explain or even feel a little bad when you've made your choice. Nobody with any knowledge, or a brain in their head, knows the skill and courage that it takes to do what you've been doing for all these years! Bless you and John Force.

My God, when John Force wads up a Hot Rod he dam sure does it in high fashion! I watched him crash in Memphis when he saw “Elvis” and I thought that was the worse I’d ever see, he topped it in Dallas and here in Virginia. Get healed up NHRA needs you in the seat or on the sidelines watching your team.

Here is an update on John Force:
1. John Force is the baddest son of a bitch who has ever held a steering wheel at any drag strip. Ever.
2. John Force is an unbelievable human being. A promotions & marketing genius, the guy next door, your favorite uncle, a legendary Champion.
3. Today, nobody who loves, admires, and respects John Force gives a rat's ass when, if ever, he will be back staring at a light tree.
4. We are praying to God for John's swift and full recuperation, and then the luxury of family, friends, and fans to rejoice and give thanks for that progress.
5. Other goals will follow I'm sure.

I don't think you realize these racers don't do it for money or fame. They have a passion for what they are doing. As tragic as it would be to lose such an icon because of a crash, he would have died doing what he loved. How many of us will be able to say that?

Maybe time NHRA starts installing softer walls similar to the ones used in NASCAR.
I hope John is back on his feet soon. He is one hell of a man. That being said I think the builders and engineers and so on deserve a shout out because these cars are designed with the possibility that they will crash so they build for safety or best possible outcome. The systems and the body as far as I can tell reacted they way it was intended to in a crash. Just my opinion.

John's age will play a huge factor into his recovery time. I believe my favorite of all-time, 16X John Force is done for the season. I have seen NASCAR hits at the same speed cause concussions that you do not recover from at that same speed with one wall, let alone, hitting 2. I know they have better safety now in both racing venues, but, John will need a lot of recovery time. My prayers are with the Force Family and not seeing him on the track, well, it will inspire the Team to get another Championship for Robert at least. Anyone who has been saying they need to go back to 1/4 mile, well, this is the reason we don't! Just like when NASCAR lost Dale Sr, they knew they had to slow the cars down, which they did and NHRA also had to drop the 1/4 mile because of loss of a life.
Nascar did nothing to slow cars following Dale Srs death, they implemented new safety regulations

If Force is as smart as we all know he is, he will let this last terrible lap be his last! I can attest to the fact that John won’t heal physically and neurologically as fast as he did even 5 years ago ( he’s 75). I’ll be 80 in October ‘24 and it seems things started changing remarkably for me at 70/71 years of age! I realize it’s different for everyone but your body has a way of telling you and wise people know this!
Appreciate the update on John from this young man but here’s a little tip for you. DON’T quit your day job!

I did a header off my road bicycle (pedal powered) when the carbon fiber fork broke inside the titanium frame. It took three years to recover about 90%. This incident was much worse given the explosion and speed of the car.
Use a normal steel bicycle. All the light shit is simply cheating. Get more exercise on a real bike!

John had previous scaring and repair(pins) Leg and hip damage for his near fatal crash he endured 2008. A similar side hit at the differential resulting in a,dangerous amount of energy transfered to the driver. Fortunately dur to this event and the Eric Medland Project to address this type of impact John made great improvements to the chassis design
We should all hope for an incredible recovery for John an icon of drag racing and overcoming life struggles.

He was having the best year he's had in a long time. Two " Wallys" already and second behind his other team mate Austin Prock. I really hate this happened to him. I would have died of a heart attack. He's tough as it gets but that's just part of being the legend he is.
Class act in reporting. You're young, let it happen. Johns tough as a boot, and has survived many crashes due to he aand his teams diligence on safety equipment.

@@lesscobrandon6803 Why? The man has had a career in Drag racing unmatched by anyone else in the sport. Crashes like this one are often fatal, or cause permanent injuries. Is he supposed to keep going until he’s eventually one of the above? The man has nothing left to prove. It’s time to walk away a winner, in every sense of the word.
I would be willing to bet that he has a few broken ribs possibly a leg, most definitely a concussion and at 75 they take that serious

I met John Force in 1980,my first impression he was crazy, he wasn't well know then,his wife was pregnant ( so was I.) Deep admiration for him always, met the Snake,Conny Koletta,And Miss Shirley Muldoney. Norwalk not that far from me...Hope you well soon😊

I met John and his Daughter at the Daytona speedway race at couple years ago.They both were awesome very friendly and took time out to take pictures with everyone.

I can't even imagine the amount of Gs he experienced on that collision into the wall. Hopefully he makes a full recovery.
While I might understand people that might worry about Mr. Force I wish him well and also wish people would back off on when and the time frame so he can come back. Its racing and these things are what happens, only he, the Drs. and his family will know. I applaud men who can do what he has done and enjoyed the life to the fullest!
That was the hardest hit ive ever seen John take I was very scared for him. Man he is tough as nails just to even survive that. I hope he recovers hes a Legend!

I have a friend who is a Emergency and ICU Trauma Dr. He thinks that they are probably testing him multiple times for internal bleeding from the impact. It doesn't take as much as people think to cause internal bleeding from organs. The spleen and liver would be the first to be impacted by that he said. He said he had a guy once that had a high speed impact into a wall with police, and he did sonograms or ultra sounds on him every 6 hrs for days at his bedside to watch for that. Kind of makes sense, but this is 100% pure speculation, not knowing if or what his apparent injuries are if any. Yes I would love to hear more about his details, but there is a confidentiality issue also. just hope that the GOAT is ok

I live a couple of blocks from John in Yorba Linda. Run into him on occasion at the gas station, In N Out etc. Super nice and friendly guy. Very humble. Very approachable. Same with his daughters.
There is no way in hell he's racing this weekend. he'll be lucky to be able to come back this season.

You said that he was going to be kept overnight for observation but then he said he was in ICU. That's a little confusing
You can be observed in ICU, the patient gets more attention.
