Your thoughts on Doom The dark Ages are unnecessary instead. Because I'm gonna buy it anyway.

Quake just doesn’t sell as much as DOOM does, and after the biggest transaction in gaming history, Xbox is in dire need of money.

Its crazy how buying Activision Blizzard for 68bil is not even 1% of Microsofts market cap. It might seem like xbox needs money when they are laying off staff, but the deal has gone well for them so far lol

I feel like the reason quake has not gotten rebooted is because of quake champions. While quake (I'm only talking about quake 1) had a great singleplayer, the multiplayer was where it was at. Lan parties were being hosted left and right to deathmatch and quake had actually sort of pioneered multiplayer fps tournaments, in 1997 a gamer named thresh actually won a whole ferrari because he won a tournament, that I'm pretty sure was being held by john romero or carmack. Quake champions (while basically dead 💀) still fulfills this quick arena deathmatch vibe that quake did, its easy and free. And to be honest the public does not care about quake unfortunately so I don't think that id cares as well for that reason. While I'm positive that sometime in the next 100 years quake will get a reboot in a form of a new game or something like that. Quake will never be on the tier that doom is for the public and id games.

Quake 2 didn't have a bad campaign either, I mean it was like the first big FPS with a cohesive, continuous story. It started adding immersion and realism into action games in a way that hadn't really been seen before!
And then Half-Life happened and single-handedly invalidated its entire existence...
You know if there's a genre we haven't got anything good in for a while it's a, what, Half-Life like? A mostly linear FPS with a focus on story, interesting set-pieces, and experimentation with mechanics. The last one we had was I think Half-Life Alyx but I don't own VR, Valve, I can't play that!
Shit actually you could probably make a decent Quake campaign like that. Then we both get what we want!

I believe the success of Doom 2016 was its direct defiance of the trends of first person shooters at the time, eliminating cutscenes, putting complex stories in the backseat with the enemy simply being demons, no reloading, classic key hunting etc. being a brilliant mix of mindless shooter combined with intelligent design. It wasn't just innovative, it was fuelled by standing out from the grey crowd of cinematic story heavy shooters at the time.
Doom Eternal found success in being a direct response to Doom 2016, being much more free with its art direction, bringing back classic enemy designs, amplifying the difficulty, adding more mechanics and expanding the universe with the introduction of Maykrs, Titans and UAC staff that aren't just obsessed leaders like Olivia Pierce.
I think part of what makes Doom: The Dark Ages feel unnecessary is that it is essentially the game version of lore we already know enough about to paint the picture, with what is simply a different variation of the modern Doom skeleton.
For Quake to be fully revitalised, it might need a figurehead with the enthusiasm of Hugo Martin that isn't actually Hugo Martin. Someone that can look at the universe of Quake and see it's potential and where it fits in with the current renaissance of boomer shooters with seemingly endlessly varying approaches to the genre.
Quake 4 largely expands upon Quake 2 while that game was still relevant enough for people to have heard of the name Strogg (I grew up on Quake 2 PS1 and only saw bits of Quake 4 on TH-cam), but you'd have a tough time marketing Strogg the same way Doom can market demons from hell, an infinitely more easily recognisable concept in comparison.

I think as a concept Doom just had a more memorable concept in comparison to Quake and it could be taken in more directions. This isn’t a hit against Quake but it’s harder to pin down what it’s about it comparison to “Dude, Hell just took over. Grab a 12 gauge”.
A good reboot would be able to handle both the forces of Shub Nigurath and The Strogg and Make something aesthetically distinct on it own to stay memorable. Maybe “Other dimensional Rust Cosmic Cyborg Horrors” and work from there.

What an unbelievably based take. I thought I was the only one thinking this. The problem with it is that Quake is just too inaccessible to new players, and it's not because of the mechanics those are dead simple and easily learned. No one likes getting into match just to get ass blasted by veterans who are ridiculously good at the game.
That being said, if they make a Quake game, I want it to lean as far away from Doom as possible. Dead simple mechanics, lethal enemies, no checkpoints, and no way to recover health or ammo outside of the map pickups. I would like it to lean heavily into resource managment, and Ranger should feel outmatched by the overwhelming odds. Lean into the pseudo-survival horror aspect of lethal enemies and limited supplies, but just enough so that you feel like every shot matters but not so much that you avoid killing everything on the map. Enemies should be lethal and hyper-aggresive, chasing you to the ends of the earth, but also easily dispatched with a few well placed shots to incentivise killing them to create breathing room.

Thank you!! It seems like some people think I'm hating but that's not the point of the video. I was considering how ID could make a faithful reboot while still appealing to a new generation of casual and competitive gamers.
Getting Quakes multiplayer right would be so hard because like you said, people just get stomped by vets. Maybe with an influx of new players and skill-based MM it would be more fun? I feel like the only game that appeals to casuals with a level of mechanical depth similar to Quake is TF2, but most TF2 players don't care about comp anyway.

I want new Quake game with strong singleplayer campaign resembling Quake 2 and 4 with multiplayer similar to Enemy Territory: Quake Wars. I was always big fan of Stroggs!
Also i would love to see that cancelled version of what was supposed to be Doom 4 revived.

Quake 1, 2, and 4 were fun and interesting for their single player levels. I never once enjoyed a multiplayer in Quake games and with Quake Champions solely focused on multiplayer for their barely-alive boomers who thrive on competitive multiplayer, their isn't going to be anymore interesting atmospheric single player worlds and stories to play through. So I'll take medieval DOOM over another ADHD fast-paced don't-blink-or-you'll-miss-it nanosecond of a little gib from railgun spamming multiplayer kind of Quake.

Doom has always been a beta test for quake. Quake is a varied, stylized shooter with a huge arsenal and bestiary of demons. Every aspect of every part of quake is perfect. With the exception of only q3 and q5, which were ruined by the lack of a singleplayer campaign. And let's look at the doom. Ugh... 2 good games in 30 years? The only really good games were doom 1 and doom eternal.

@@TheGamer9494 Okay, I'll try to be brief about why every doom (except doom 2 and doom eternal) is garbage.
Doom 2 is just a money scam that tried to improve on the Doom 1 formula but ruined everything.
      1. I'll start with the main thing: the game has a disgusting level design. If the first part had at least some details, then the second part did not. Compare, for example, E1M1 with MAP01. MAP01 is 3 empty huge boxes, while in E1M1 each room looks beautiful and unique.
      2. Super shotgun. An unbalanced weapon that makes the rest of your arsenal meaningless. The only thing you will use besides it: a machine gun (for the time when the ammo for the super shotgun runs out) and a rocket (for long-distance shooting)
      3. New enemies change the pace of the game for the worse. Now, almost the entire game you have to hide around the corner and shoot, since there is no other way to dodge new enemies. This makes the game slower.
      4. Deterioration in texture quality. The new textures here look very sloppy, as they are just old textures with a filter applied to them. Because of this, all sorts of green dots appear, which is why the texture thins out.
