    Such a beautiful piece of land, and you’re making such great progress. We can’t wait to see what type of cabin you’ll build (A-frame?). And man, the woodnessgoodness workouts are waaay tougher than our cropfit ones here on our farm. Your dad is amazing to be upright, and you’re both rockstars for getting after it. Thanks for sharing. May you both get good rest and recuperate!

    It is during scenarios such as this that honestly makes me feel a little guilty for sub’ing and watching your videos. Folks like me are what drive you to continue making more and more content and then you are stuck pulling the heavy cart 100’ uphill, pausing, relocating the tripod/camera, rinse & repeat. All so we can be pulled in and feel so invested in your successes. On that note….I will not stop watching and thank you so much for all you do. You (and your dad (and mom, of course!)) are quite the champs!

    Tedious layout work but it will pay off with a square and level base. I thought that you were incredibly skilled when you poured the concrete pads without doing the badder board thing -especially on a slope. Glad it all worked out. You will have the floor structure up quick. Fun video. I hope your Dad has recovered!

    I recommend going 18 inches above grade with concrete so it can dry out. Water logged concrete is no fun. I am building this summer, a skillion pavilion that will eventually become a cottage. It is one of the cheapest ways to get a shelter at camp. I like A frames too. The price of post brackets can be stupid. Strap boards to hand truck. It's what we do with dock sections so one person can move them across land. I usually see water levels used with trailers and modular houses the most.

  • @chriscapaccio3463
    @chriscapaccio3463 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Holy woodnessbadbackness, baby! You are making great progress, considering it is just you and dad. Take it easy on him, brother. He is old enough to be your dad 🤫. Personally, I would have put sonotubes and had the footings come above grade by at least 8 inches, but that ship has sailed. This is still going to be woodness hotness either way. Maybe it is time to make a better access way to the property so you can drive up with no issues. The bulk of the material will be needed soon enough, and dad's back will be so appreciative, lol. We need to set you up with a cordless Milwaukee hammer drill, too. Keep getting after it and invest in Advil.

    Looks like you need a working bee! The inefficiencies of lugging supplies each time must be a bummer. I reckon get a box of beers, a few mates, a truck and trailer of supplies and just get a sweat up getting materials up there for a day.

  • @area51ray

    Time for a quad or better yet a mule type vehicle Graham, almost looks like a necessity at this point. Hauling an entire cabin up the mountain is going to be a huge task with no material transport all the way to the build site.
    I commend you and your dad for your efforts to this point, I know carrying that wood up that hill is strenuous, hope your dad’s back is ok my friend.
    Love being able to watch the journey, thanx! ✌️

    To take this back for you, there would be nothing wrong with roughly squaring Sono Tube Piles, but levelling the tops of the tubes. Then bam. You've got a platform you can tie to and attach your lumber. Good luck, enjoying following this project :)

    I too used a water level when I installed the pillars for my small house in the woods and I was just as amazed as you were that it worked although it didn't look quite right to the eye. The level does not lie.

  • @cotton-Dave
    @cotton-Dave ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Your note to self at 6:00 is VERY important in the beginning!
    Do a very close search along the water-level hose to make SURE that there are NO AIR BUBBLES anywhere along the entire length! Otherwise: crocodile tears later on.
    Not to discourage you this early in the process, but the type/size/weight of material you will need up that mountainside is only going to increase with time. I suggest you give some serious thought about an access road up to the site.
    So thankful that Dad's discomfort was temporary! Been there!
    Best of luck, Mr. G.! Just take it easy.

    Yes a water level! My dad gave me that tidbit and I used it for a couple decks and foundations. They have a kit on Amazon that has a valve and caps etc (for a garden hose). It's like $10. Laser level if you have the $$, but simplicity is great as well.

    Can't believe your dad was able to tough it out.
    If you've established that it's square in plane with the slope of the hillside, won't it likely be out of square at the level of the top of the posts? If you were measuring square diagonally in a different plane than your floor will be, it seems like you're essentially measuring the hypotenuse of a triangle formed by the connection of the leg in plane of your future floor and the leg of the the support posts...

    • @cotton-Dave
