FEMA MRE Review | SOPAKCO Emergency Ration Meals 2018 | Individual Meal Ready To Eat Taste Test

  • I've reviewed Sopakco Reduced Meal Individuals before but these Emergency Ration Meals, supposedly packed for FEMA, are different from anything I've seen before. These MREs come 16 to a case and are roughly 800-900 calories per meal. The main meal is the same we've seen in low sodium rations before but these particular meals have a good bit more variety when it comes to the snacks and extras.
    Thanks for watching!

i got a real life opportunity to eat these after hurricane ian came through, the national guard coming into town and handing out boxes of these along with bags of ice was a real blessing. those seasoning packets are awesome by the way.

Same. Bag of ice, 2 boxes and a case of water. If you went to the church, they based it off how many people you had in the house.

Great video, snagged a case of these myself and they’re not half bad, no heaters in them is my biggest complaint.

I've realized that US MRE's are mostly just Chef Boy R Dee in a pouch. I like them, especially the Italian sausage and peppers.

As a veteran my secret was a container that use to hold sprinkles that I emptied and put spices and powders in and a bottle of my favorite hot sauce. It made any main taste soooo much better.

At 2 meals/day, that's more than a week's worth of food! I feel much better about the reduced sodium MREs. I also prefer my MRE crackers more in the browned/toasted side. I wonder if one type of crackers lasts longer than the other? Great review and thank you! I also have that hot sauce and even just put some on my scrambled eggs just prior to watching this video!

Not enough protein. You want protein and sodium in the field

There wasn’t lentils in this meal, just the mediocre cheese tortellini with a whopping 11g of protein, 2 jellies no peanut butter or cheese spread. You’re better off with lentils, HDR’s are more nutrient rich than the sobacko low sodium trash

Two strawberry jams? Should have a peanut butter but I guess they ran out that day. Use one jam for beverage, just squeeze it into the water and shake it. Strawberry drink. Easy.

I don't know if your main is different than military MRE Menu 13 Cheese tortellini, but that meal I tried was absolutely delicious! It was the best tomato sauce out of all the MREs I have tried, and I enjoyed it very much. Perhaps because this is a low sodium variant, it tastes very different. The tomato sauce in my Menu 13 had Italian herbs and spices, clearly some prominent oregano. Although the ricotta cheese wasn't that great, the tomato sauce made it for it and beyond. I would eat a Menu 13 any day.

I wonder what you thought of that Shock and Awe sauce. I have the less spicy version of the same grenade shaped brand named Danger Close , which I like but not crazy about . As far as these FEMAR-Es are concerned, I think I'd rather eat some fresh deer meat.

I'd just add my own salt, low sodium is obviously healthier, but as long as you're not living on mres I don't think chucking a bit of salt in the main would really matter.

Sopacko "reduced sodium" mains are all but inedible. I had two cases and ate a few, and then gave the rest away. Emergency food should be a morale booster. I would be absolutely dejected if I had to eat more than one or two of these during any type of emergency.

@@demokid7118 I disagree. I guarantee if you had nothing to eat but these you would be demoralized. I’m not saying I wouldn’t eat them if I was starving and had no other option. But like I said, food should be a not just a way to get the necessary nutrients, but a way to lift your spirits. These sopacko low sodium mains are soul crushingly bad.

The rated shelf life and true shelf life are two different things. Even a Military MRE has a 3 year inspection date. This doesn't stop them for lasting 3 decades. It just all depends on storage.

These are just a domestically branded version of the Humanitarian Daily Ration, which Fema would naturally be a large customer for.
